Very much disagree on a couple counts. Strong’s issue was he DIDNT make changes. Everyone knew Watson was a bad hire. Many of us said so at the time. Pretty much everyone said so. Strong wasn’t hired until January 5th. With that late of a hire I think most coaches would of made changes on their staff from year 1 to year 2. Strong did that with bringing in Norvell and Taylor. He elected to keep his friend Watson though who by all accounts wasn’t the answer. It wasn’t until he was damn near fired that he decided to remove watson from the OC role.

So Herman firing beck would not make him Stromg 2.0. It would be avoiding what was probably Strong’s fatal mistake and that was rolling with Watson in to year 2.

Next thing I’ll disagree with you on. Yes I get that the OL and depth of the OL is an issue, and it explains SOME of the offensive problems. However there are also things Beck is doimg an awful job of

We don’t have a running game in part because of the OL and in part because Beck doesn’t even try to run the ball. Texas ran the ball with a RB 13 times yesterday. Warren had a 15 yard run in the 4th qrt. Didn’t touch the ball on that drive again. Carter who has shown some explosive ability he carried it once. You can’t just run the ball 6 times and go “welp not working”. If you want your OL to get better in the run game if you want to give your young QB a chance you gotta keep trying to run.

We sure as hell never abandoned those damn bubble screens that pick up a yard at a time. Why arent we stretching the field on first and 2nd down instead of making things tougher on your OL and only passing when it’s 3rd and 15.

It would also appear that under Tim Beck and Tom Herman that the quickest way to find the bench... make plays. Seriously. As I pointed out Warren rips off a 15 yard run yesterday. 3 stright incompletions later we’re off the field. Warren never got it again on that drive

Lil Jordon he made plays against OU and K State. Probably one of the best athletes on the team. He was targeted once for 9 yards.

Burt took a play 90 yards. Only WR to step up yesterday. Got the ball one other time.

So yes the OL is a problem no question but Beck isn’t helping anyone out and an improved OL isn’t going to change his play calling ability. Let’s also not forget that Urban Meyer let him make the lattreal move to Texas. If Meyer thought he was that great he probably stays. Especially since he and Herman have been kind of snipping back and forth.

Herman will need to make changes to the offense. Weather that’s firing beck or taking a more active role in play calling... if he doesn’t we are probably talking about weather Herman gets year 3 this time next year.

I agree completely with your 4th and 5th paragraphs. Though Strong’s and Herman’s records may be similar at this point, the level of play is not even close. Our team under Herman is physical, organized and and don’t look confused. The eyeball test is drastically different between the two. I defended Charlie to almost the end, but I am glad he is somewhere else.

this team has shown more fight in two games than the entire era of the charlie strong shipwreck. Herman has issues to deal with right now, but he is the man who will get it done.

charlie strong was the worse case scenario in the entire history of Longhorn football.

Herman like Strong hired an OC that was going to have trouble finding another P5 job if not for Texas. Just like Watson, Beck has no imagination nor ability to get the ball into the hands of the few playmakers this offense has. These big 12 defenses we are facing get lit up every week yet here we are struggling to put up 10 points.

I guarantee I personally could put up more than 10 freaking points with the old school double wing (4-yards and a cloud of dust) I had my youth team running.
