Fall camp thread

How do you feel that Gunnar Helm will be as the starting te? He's not the athlete Sanders is but he's got good hands and he seems to be a good blocker plus he's been in the system for 3 years. Do you think he's an NFL caliber te?

Well blocking will be a huge upgrade because Sanders was awful, maybe worse.

Depends on his route running. Which I've never followed close enough.

Capable. Not a dominant athlete. He's going to have to out work everyone.

Sometimes, dudes like that, pan out.

Craig Biggio....

Sorry Biggio was a HOF player. 3,000 + hits, two positions all star. There was a lot more with him than hard work and sweat.

Report is Jake Majors is in a precautionary boot.

Defense one the Scrimmage again. Didnt have many turnovers but caused a lot of punts.

All RB'S were in green no touching jerseys.

Golden is Mossing people all over there place

Gavin Holmes as been impressive

Insiders are saying Deandre Moore has been the most impressive WR in camp. He has the best chemistry with Ewers so far. Don’t be surprised if comes out of camp as WR1.

he is to little to be WR1 he will stay in the slot but start for sure.

why is it that every year it seems like it takes years and years between spring ball and the next season start, but after the first game it seems like mere minutes until the season is almost over?

Time is damned strange. it feels like forever for the last few weeks to pass, but the last two decades went by in a blink! No damned wonder it took Einstein all those years to work out relativity....

From one old effr to another I'm with you 💯. But this year can be really special. This is Ewers make or break year. He's can win the Heisman this year. The first half of our schedule is the toughest but if we beat MI, OK, and GA I guarantee you well be #1. And who knows after that.

Agreed. It’ll be an interesting first year of the new playoff. Will anyone care if we’re ranked 1 mid season? Although how does it work this year. Ranking 1, 2 get a first week bye?

I just don't think Michigan will be that tough. I've been wrong before many times, but as I stated in another post they return like 2 starters on Offense and 4-5 on defense? Plus a new coach?

Who knows, they could be flying drones over our shit as we speak.

To me the toughest stretch is at the end. Obviously Oklahoma and Georgia is a killer back to back. Don't sleep on having to play a desperate Florida, and then at Arky and at Aggie. Throw in a Kentucky in the middle and that is a scary run. Not because those teams are great, but we know how motivated Arky and Aggie are, especially at home. Florida as I said will be desperate and Kentucky could be a trap game.

Gotta bring it every damn week. Why depth matters so much. Can't get comfortable.

1-4 get a bye
I'm confused about all this. 12 teams I understand that. The 4 conference champions are in. OK I get that. But what makes up the other 8. Now we have six elite bowls but I saw that the Orange and Cotton bowls get the final 4 and the title game is on 1/20. As you can see I'm totally confused.

One spot is reserved for a Group of 5 school as well

I'm not a fan of a 12 team playoff. I'd prefer a 6 team, but here we are. It'll be great viewership I'm sure, but it kind of waters down the illustriousness of post season football IMO

Yep, the regular season will mean less. There will be a big push to put teams from the ACC and B12 in the playoff to calm the natives. The SEC may go to a 7 game regional schedule with 5 cupcakes.

It will mean less, but it won't be meaningless thankfully. 8-4, probably 9-3 doesn't get you in even for SEC unless you have a big OOC win

Non-conf matchups will be pretty bare.

You're probably right, 7 "tough" conference games and 5 shit games. Oh boy!

When they negate the competitive value of the SEC and replace it with mediocre teams from the other conferences because of 'wins', I can see 2 options for the SEC. 1. Break away ~ not a good option or 2. Go to 7 conference games with a regional format like the NFL. Play teams in your region and then rotate against another region to have an equal level of competition. Have 4 4 team pods. The winners of each division play in a 4 team playoff to determine SEC champ. This will guarantee 4 SEC teams in the playoff.

I do wonder what will become of the Big XII now that OK and TX are gone. When the next contracts are negotiated who's going to make it? I think Kansas State has a chance but I don't know about the rest. Last year's additions were a disaster, a bunch of damn commuter schools. I'm going to wait and see about the new ones. Maybe this was inevitable look at what happened to Oregon State and Washington State.

With the lessening of the hold the NCAA has as a governing body, the more these conferences will jockey for position.
I fvcking HATE that this has become all about the money. It disgusts me. It's chipping away at my love for college football-- not with the subtleness of a slowly rising tide, but instead with the viciousness of a loggers axe.

I know you’re a free market guy. We’re all trying to cash in as much as we can while we can. I hate it too but you can’t stop it. High school is next.

Yup.

I have no problem with free market. I have a problem with monopolies. 20-ish schools shouldn't have a monopoly on college football.

Go back the last 65 years. There's about 20 teams that have won titles in that time period.

That number will dwindle in the next 65 years.

A little off topic, but apparently, blowU has a couple of very salty freshman DL that will get plenty of playing time.

From what I've read they will have a good defense. With Stutsman at lb and Bowen Bowman at safety they will have a d to be reckoned with. But really their season depends on Jackson Arnold.

Dude threw 3 pics in the bowl game loss.

I get it. 1st start. Freshman. Bowl game.

Still. That's the last taste he has in his mouth.

I am still bitter about Texas’s loss to ou last year. Quinn threw 2 pics and had one fumble. Not a whole lot bettter. I know I had disagreement on his pic on the first effing play of the game, but Quinn really did stare his receiver the whole way. Any QB that stares their receiver down deserves to get picked. I like Quinn a lot and grateful we have him, but that game was tough to swallow.

Not worried too much about that until it becomes a habit. It's not like he did it in september and had a chance to work on things on another opponent the following week. if he performs similarly against temple i'll start to get concerned.

Freshman in his first start, new OC/playcaller, had just a couple weeks of practice time as qb1, doing so with 4 backup OL. He sure did look like a freshman a few times but he also looked like a seasoned vet sometimes too. arizona was salty and desperate for a validation victory over an OU who is going to the sec. I suspect Arnold was getting a feel for the speed of the game, what he can get away with, how tight the windows are. Better to get that stuff out during a glorified exhibition than in the regular season.

These are usually things qbs can tweak during the non-con schedule against the patsies, and arizona wasnt a patsy.
