Fall camp thread

Unless there's some new surgical breakthrough that I haven't heard or read about-- I know "some" doctors believe a partially torn LCL can heal on its own-- I think that's a bunch of bullsh!t-- but hey, I skipped that day of medical school (and all the rest of them). But PCL tears just suck. I mean they fvcking suck. When you tear somewhere that's meant to stabilize your joint from moving in a direction nature NEVER intended it to move in--- that's a hard area to rehab.
But let's say they do the surgery, repair both ligaments with grafts, he goes through 9 months of rehab- he won't be practicing in March-- that means he won't suit up and take a hit again until a year from now. And that's assuming nothing goes wrong- no infections, no mishaps, or slipping on a fvcking wet floor, or getting drunk at a frat party and Shea Morenz-ing your way down a flight of stairs-- (it happens)-- and once he's back on the field, he's got to have the strength and stability to cut, push, and take hits.
It's REALLY hard for some folks to come back from injuries like this-- nit just physically, but mentally.

Did McGarity just have ACLs?

This would suck for Baxter. Hate to see it. For anyone. Except Andre Watters. **** that guy

PCL tears aren't any harder to rehab than ACL tears. Its the still the knee and rehab is still basically the same as an ACL but there is a little more emphasis on quad development because the PCL helps prevent posterior translation of the tibia at the knee joint. The thing that makes the recovery time longer is the mechanism of injury. Its usually some kind of fall on a bent knee with lots of extra force. I had a soccer player and a softball player who had PCLs and both ended up being all conference players the following year. Well both were probably going to be all conference the year they got hurt so they ended up getting back to where they were. However they were funky injuries and it took a long time to get the surgery done because they wanted to let some of the other damage heal before they did the surgery.

I don't follow spring ball or fall camp. And what am irony that August in Texas is considered fall camp. So when the season starts we'll see who's really good it and who doesn't.

That being said can we have great front four if we have Burke and Vasek at then ends with Collins in the middle.? It seems to me that Sorrel can pay anywhere. I'm excited to have a couple 6'6" ends starting.

all i know is ..Trey Moore, Anthony Hill, Ethan Burke and Colin Simmons.....we about to see a rush the qb defense like never before.

Early scrimmage comments from OTF:

  • Anthony Hill had an amazing scrimmage
  • Jerrick Gibson was RB3
  • Wingo caught an out route fully extended
  • Quinn was throwing darts.
  • Bond, Golden, and Bolden had good days.
  • Juan Davis had a TD catch on a 30 yd wheel route
Notes from Justin Wells:

  • Trey Owens got most of the playing time and had a nice day running the offense. Had a 15 yd TD run. Quinn and Arch looked solid in limited action
  • Gibson had a 5 yd between the tackles TD. RB order was Blue, Wisner, Gibson, Clark, then walk ons.
  • Bond caught a 40 yd pass
  • Jordan Washington had a 30 yd reception
  • Trey Moore was very impactful. Derion Gullette got some run at tailback apparently.
  • Blackwell got dinged up, could just be a stinger, checking for more details.
  • Jahdae Barron had a FF and stuffed Clark at the 1yd line on a pass in the flat.
  • Mukuba had a pick, and Kobe Black made some plays.
Scrimmage notes from Such/Anwar/Alex (OB folks):

  • Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark both had fumbles. Walk on Collin Page played RB for a bit and turned some heads.
  • Liona Lefau balled out.
  • Ewers was okay, but not great. Deandre Moore dropped a 40ish yard TD pass.
  • Manning started strong. Threw a couple of pics late. Wow’d with arm strength.
  • Silas Bolden was extremely impressive.
  • D line was blowing things up all day.
  • Trey Moore and Alfred Collins, in particular.
  • Anthony Hill was all over the place.
  • Mukuba had some PBUs and an INT.
  • Tyanthony Smith looked “damn good.”
  • Sydir Mitchell got some work with the ones.

From what I heard and caught my attention(in addition to Drtx):

Bolden was the one that had the diving fully horizontal catch

Quinn gels well with Golden and Manning with Wingo

Both fish RBs had a fumble in the red zone and Gibson out performed Clark

Ant Hill was pretty much awesome

The offense was average .

luckily we have the best RB coach in America....and quote me on this but if we have a RB hit over 1000 yards this year Coach Choice will be gone.

Juan Davis and Darren Giuillete both getting snaps at RB. Ryan Niblett as well.
Wow. Kind of fun thinking about it. It is also like throwing sh$t on the wall to see what sticks, but it does make some sense. Fullback type contrast to Blue. Baxter was that option. I like the Davis trial the best because he can catch out of the backfield in addition to running over LBs/DBs. Let’s see what happens. @outhereincali , promise you’ll start the nonTexas games thread next week. 2weeks not too early. Somebody else can start the Texas /CSU thread

I must be slow...
I never noticed that Baxter was some sort of jackhammer back that blasted guys ala Earl. Fact is, I thought we didnt have a fullback type back at all last year.

He had a few plays where he ran through some tackles, but I think the expectation that once he grew out of his freshman puppy phase he would be more like the highlight below. This was in the last Spring Game and his most current game action. I think he also put some more muscle on during the summer.

I agree that it looked like he was gonna be great....maybe so, but he has been fragile. Shipley overcame the injury bug to become great, so it can be done. I just keep hearing that little voice in my head which was St DK Royal....he said....the trouble with potential is that it means they aint done it yet

How do you feel that Gunnar Helm will be as the starting te? He's not the athlete Sanders is but he's got good hands and he seems to be a good blocker plus he's been in the system for 3 years. Do you think he's an NFL caliber te?
