Fall camp thread

I think one dude didn't play...and Jackson Arnold played for that guy
This may be true. But Jackson Arnold is the key to their season and if not Arnold a qb has to develop. Hey guys our hated rivals could win at least 9 games maybe more this year.

Don't disagree on either front. OU is going to be just fine. They won't tank like Texas did under Mack/Strong/Herman for several years.

With that said I don't think Venables is a guy that will consistently win big games. I think he is somewhere between mediocre and above average.

Sugar coating the shit rotten game Arnold had against Arizona is nothing more than cope. He was awful and it wasn't because the entire offense sat out either.

Maybe it's to early to judge Venables. Interestingly, his career is on the same trajectory as Sarkisian. I hate to admit it but that hated school north of the Red River should have been in the Peach Bowl. You could be right though maybe he isn't. But my point is that one team we can never write-off is OK.

I just don't think he is my man. I happen to think he is a genuine man, respectable man and someone that would be hard to root against. I just don't think he has "it" or knows how to cultivate that. As I've stated, I have been wrong before.

I think he is always going to do just enough to give hope, but never really get it done. Think Mack, but without the 04-09 run. Fred Akers if you will, but not a complete dick bag.

Yup.

I have no problem with free market. I have a problem with monopolies. 20-ish schools shouldn't have a monopoly on college football.

Go back the last 65 years. There's about 20 teams that have won titles in that time period.

That number will dwindle in the next 65 years.
Yessir. I’m just hoping Texas is one of them. I’ve only got so many years left. 2005 was a long time ago.

Since we're taking about OK here's some trivial pursuit for you. When TX and OK announced they were going to the Big SEC 3 years ago the rest of the Big XII were out for blood.

In TX case everybody but KSU beat the horns at least once. However we won the last game against all of them there by drawing last blood.

What do KSU, Baylor, TT, KS, and OKS, have in common? They won their last game against OK that means they drew last blood 😂

you got there in the end but rough delivery on the beginning of the post lol...dont smoke and post sir.

do you wish Texas was in the sec when you played?
Never thought about it. Things were so "regional" back then that I knew I had to choose what region I wanted to play in. I was recruited by all the SEC schools and actually took one of my recruiting trips to Georgia. Bob Pittard recruited me. Dude was a character. Partied with Garrison Hearst, Eric Zeier, and met this dude that was a back-up rb- clown funny- named Terrell Davis.
The SEC wasn't this "power house" conference that the media has made them out to be in today's world. Yes, they were paying players back then- yes- I was offered money, cars, condos, free sh!t by many of those schools. But it wasn't "ridiculous" money-- like you hear about a la Cam Newton stories.
I considered taking a trip to Tennessee and LSU as well-- but they just seemed like they were in these little podunk towns that had nothing going on.
Kinda regret not taking the LSU trip.......

lol....I hope against hope that Majors figures out how to be more physical blocker and proves me wrong, but I just don't see it. He is serviceable because he is so dang smart. He just gets pushed around too much.
How do you think Cameron Williams do? And you know the other 4 guys have played together for 3 years.

Without watching practice it is hard to say. From a physical standpoint it will be exceptional hard for anyone to stone him or go through him. If his footwork has improved, he's going to be an absolute monster. If he still loses his stabilization, he'll be good, but inconsistent.

dId aggy and gooner recruit you? visit any big 10 schools?

Yes. Only a couple/few times though. My Earl Campbell encounters were WAY more entertaining stories.
Walking to Belmont, I got to pass Earl on the sidewalk. I'd always step off and watch in awe. Got to ride the elevator with Coach Royal once or twice. One time, we were hanging out in front of his office and he said come on in boys. Had a good conversation. Tommy Ford taught our football coaching class. Dave Snyder the tennis Rodney Page taught soccer/basketball (Raymond Clayborn got an A, despite hardly being in class and we were cool w that) and Spanky Stephens taught athletic training. Good times🤘🏻

in 1999 my dad took me to the cotton bowl to see Texas vs Arkansas, the game major destroyed his leg. On the walk into the fair grounds out of a taxi came James Street. I got to Meet, walk and talk with him the entire way into the grounds up to the stadium. One of my favorite moments as a kid.
