We need at least one big with a big ass to be a bruiser. We have none. Lack of physicality will catch up.
Right. When they brought the double team on Williams they got his only miss of the night and a turnover. When they guarded him one on one he made every shot. That’s not me “blaming beard” that’s what happened.

Players missing open looks is the problem. No excuse for going 9 minutes without scoring whilst letting the other team score 20.
It has been a valiant effort by Texas. Purdue is the 3 seed for a reason. It wasn't coaching, we just don't have the horses for this game.
I understand Purdue gets in the paint more than we do. But 40 plus FTs is asinine.
Big 12 plays ruff/physical basketball….you get these refs that aren’t used to it and they call everything. I’m not complaining just pointing out an issue I see.

Nah my man. We have the right guy coaching this team. We just lost to a team that may end up being this year’s national champions. We were in this one until the final 3 minutes with a rag tag roster put together over the last 7 months with no go to guy offensively. Beard came in with a phenomenal game plan. He completely took away Ivey in this game. The lack of double team in the post was the right defensive approach against Purdue. If we double we open up their 3 point shooting which is among the best in the country. Double teams also open up driving lanes for Ivey. If we double teamed more we run the risk of losing by 30 against this team. That’s what they want you to do!
Great first season! Beard did an outstanding job. Really looking forward to seeing what he does to improve the roster this off season. Imagine what he can do with a true big man taking up space in the middle. A couple of talented bigs and some dead eye shooters and a wing who can shoot and defend multiple positions.
Our basketball program is in good hands.

There’s gonna be a lot of whining about refs in this thread, but I’ll tell it like it is. Purdue got to the paint all night. We took a million jump shots. That will happen when you’re smaller than them at almost every position. It’s the number one reason Purdue was a terrible matchup for us. They have guys who can both destroy us in the post; and can actually slash to the rim. Both things we knew we lacked.
Season was a success. Team showed a lot of fight all year, especially tonight, but the things that plagued us all year inevitably did us in (huge droughts, lack of finishing games). Was gonna take an unreal shooting night to overcome our disadvantages in this one and it was unlikely we were gonna get 2 of those in a row. I said 1 tourney win and I’d be satisfied so I am. Let’s go build on it at Moody! Go get them recruits!

Last year the Big XII did well in the first round went 6/1. Unfortunately we were the 1 and the SS was mercifully over.
But this year we went 6/0 in the first round. However last year every team except Baylor was eliminated in the second round this year we were 3/3 and KS is our best chance to win the natty. If KS or maybe TT bring home the trophy that would make the be Big XII the premier hoops conference in the country. Hey we're finally #1 in something that matters. And once again don't forget about the lady horns.
And the Big X managed to get 9 teams in the big dance but only 2 are left. I will lmao if they both lose in the next round. And the SEC only has 1 left. I also lmao that big bad Bruce Pearl got thumped by a 10 seed. Nothing but a con man.

Very well said in both of your posts, Drtx. Not only is Shaka thankfully gone, but with Beard as his replacement, it is a massive upgrade. The future looks bright for Texas basketball.
I like the program’s direction. Great season. The system fits the current roster unlike Shaka’s system (whatever you call it) which didn’t seem to match his players.
Now just pick up a 4 with a big ass like Mark Vital (Baylor last year), Williams (Purdue) or Jaylin Williams (Arkansas) that can’t wear skinny jeans.
Well, at least one Longhorn has made the final four.

Austin CC is a great course for a match play event: a great mix of shorter par 4s and 5s with devilish approach shots and undulating greens. I hope the event remains at ACC for many years.
Besides being a great player, Sheffler seems like a genuinely nice guy. Congrats to him.
