Fire Vance Bedford NOW * Charlie to call plays vs okie lite?

.........Damn brah, you're not listening! Strong wants the best players on the field and Bedford isn't calling their number, example True Freshmen BJ. Strong isn't making excuses, pull your head outta your ass.I don't give a flying F*&k what Boob is doing, I don't follow OU football. Stop coming at me with OU crap.
You are missing the point as usual. If you are wanting to look at things objectively, you will admit Strong had a good run at Florida with exceptional future NFL talent to coach. He moved on to Louisville in a league that nobody thinks much ofa his claim to fame was beating a hapless Muschamp led Florida team. Muschamp is a horrible head coach and is proving it many times over. Strong did put some guys in he league I'll give him that but what you can't or won't seem to grasp is that just like Stoops, Strong's best era is behind him whether you want to admit it or not. The proof is really in the pudding...brah. And after finishing 6-7 2 years straight with your D finishing ranked 107th . If Charlie is not fully engaged in every defensive alignment and package being called then you have more problems than I thought.

On this note, why is Brandon Jones not playing more in the defensive backfield. He seems to have such a nose for the football. The dude seems like a play maker. Obviously coaches see something that would prevent him from getting on the field, but the dude seems like he can ball on special teams.

So, Strong's first year in the Big 12 was a fluke? Nah brah...I'm not missing any point. He is down to his last chance so it matters very little. If he doesn't get more involved, he wont be here much longer. His 3-3-5 does well against the spread and has for years, players out of position is the real issue here to go along with no push on the DL.

I'll wager that they get it fixed.

I'd bank on him playing in Stillwater.

His first year he had Macks talent on D.

I have to keep reminding myself that my initial take on this team is still valid. They are young but by week 6 this team is going to be tough to beat. Now I said this thinking it would take time for the Texas offense to get going, I didn't think the problem would be our secondary.

The next 3 weeks will tell us more about this team and it's character, also the coaches.

If coach strong wants to fix the discipline issues with this team, all he needs to do is hire a set of officials for his practices. Let the officials call his practices like it was a game and make each kid pay for every infraction. They will learn to stop committing fouls quickly.

In a close game, fouls can be just as bad as a turnover or a defensive breakdown.

These guys are not mentally tough, and they need to get there.

If true, I would certainly concur. I'm not too much of a homer to call our coach out.
You come across pretty Aggy so there is that. I'm not a strong apologist, but I'm also not a ball watcher and know what the issues were on Saturday.

The first loss was always coming. We all knew this was a team that would stumble, and they did. It wasn't embarrassing or particularly costly, its just hard to swallow because we all know we could have and should have beaten that team.
With that said though, its good to get the wake up call with some time to make changes. If anybody was thinking they could cruise, they now know they can't. Strong has been concerned with the offense all off season, now its time to focus on the defense. Bedford for the most part has gotten a pass on what has been a bad defense because the offense was so terrible. Its time to figure out a scheme that works with the talent we have against the offenses we will be facing, and its time to get the right players on the field.

I agree here. This conference is still wide open and up for grabs. Texas COULD still win out. I think defensively will be a struggle, but they will struggle as well with the Texas offense. If Texas only loses maybe 1 more game this season will be better than most on here thought it would be. I don't see a team on the schedule that you SHOULDN'T beat, but defensive coaching and youth might still catch up to you.

I had them pegged for 7-5 and still do. It's one game at a time Doc.

7-5 would be a bad season for a team that has shown this much improvement on offense, IMO. Not to mention that would be 4 big 12 losses in a very weak big 12. We are backwards in our progression. Our Defense was supposed to be much improved vs the "young" offense. Now our offense has to carry the team. Not that it's my decision but 7 wins is not enough improvement

Let me preface my statements with I have not played a down of football over the junior high level, nor do I claim to know about schemes and things of that nature. With that being said Brandon Jones needs to see the field A LOT more. Dude has a nose for the football and is athletically gifted enough to make up for some lapses in brain function (not knowing the system). I'm sure there are others that fit into this category (Roach, Hager) but let the kids learn on the fly. A guy that good doesn't not see the field. The safety that he was compared to in high school (Deontay Anderson) is playing a ton for Ole Miss as a safety and might even be starting. I'm going to guess that Ole Miss's defense has more upperclassmen than UT's and he is still seeing playing time.

Notre Dame (I had hoped they weren't going to be so abysmal) sucks Bubba, UTEP, well.. they're one dimensional and Texas D spit the bit in Cali, 7-8 wins is all I'm willing to put on the table at this time. They haven't shown a damn thing other than a top 25 offense against inferior defense to make me change my mind. I like what I'm seeing outside of missed assignments and a poor pass rush.

The rushing D has improved, the defensive backfield........is not up to the task.

I am not saying we will win more, I am saying that we should if Strong is the guy. I don't think he is. Next year we are likely looking for a new D coordinator. There are just way too many red flags to keep assigning excuses at this point.

I hear ya.

Anyone pointing to the last two years recoreds as evidence that Strong can't coach doesn't know what they are talking about. There is no coach in America that would of done much better with the roster given. Why? We didn't have a QB. You don't win in college football without a QB. That is the single thing that got Mack fired. Inability to replace Colt McCoy. When Mack was most successful at Texas his QBs were Major, Young and Colt. Go look at his recored in games not started by those 3. It's not good. Look at the QBs Urban Myer has had. Alex Smith, Chris Leake, Tim Tebow, Braxton Miller, JT barret.

Now Strong probably could of gotten a grad transfer and maybe he wins 6-7 games who knows. Point being Texas wasn't going to win games until they got a QB. Don't care who the coach is looks like we have one now.

From tfloss...

The discussions have already started that Charlie will be the sole play-caller on defense against OK State in two weeks.

We'll see what the week brings.

The coaches were supposed to hit the recruiting trail hard this week because of the bye, but that may not happen now.

The problem with this is that Bedfor is still coaching the DBs...and they suck.

Bro you are strawmanning the hell out of this thread.

Not really. There is ovbiously more to it than JUST the QB. But if you don't have a QB you are going to struggle I don't care who the coach is.

Now Strong made other moves that didn help him(Shawn Watson, dismissing players who would of helped Etc). The roster though was a 5-7 win roster no one was gonna change that.

This roster Imo is a 7-8 win roster. Since the conference is weak maybe we get 9-10

so why is everyone giving a pass to our favorite coach?...looking at you Traylor....does he not coach what is supposed to be our special teams? Our kick and punt coverage is abysmal.

What pisses me off is that we all thought our DB's would be a team strength. I dont care what Charlie does to fix this but I hope he just fixes it.

another thing....Hill and Davis...these guys looked great as freshmen. I understand sophomore slumps are common, but come on!...I read that Hill was running 3rd team and had a bad attitude...is this true? Maybe I have the wrong guy, but I thought it was Hill. Then Davis....he was supposed to be a lockdown corner.....where has he been?

Obviously not as advertised.
