Fire Vance Bedford NOW * Charlie to call plays vs okie lite?

Didn't watch the game but obviously I was way way wrong about living in the back field all night. Not sure what the coaching staff had game planned for but shit hit the fan quick. I'll have to watch the game to throw up in my mouth. I'm not sure why Charlie says HE's going to fix the defense but I'll guess we'll see next weekend.

Missed assignments are on position coaches and players, it can be fixed. They weren't getting burned, they were out of position.

Patton was a superior General because he had an uncanny ability to give an order so that it could not be misunderstood.....A coaches job is to teach and recognize when the player understands and when they do not. period. If the coach can not do that then they are not doing what they are paid to do.

When another player is faster or stronger than your player ther is not much you can do, but when your player is equal to or better than the other guy and is getting beat anyway then you are not coaching. What you need to do is figure out how the other guy is coaching his inferior guys to out perform your guys. When you cannot do that, you quit.

so why is everyone giving a pass to our favorite coach?...looking at you Traylor....does he not coach what is supposed to be our special teams? Our kick and punt coverage is abysmal.

What pisses me off is that we all thought our DB's would be a team strength. I dont care what Charlie does to fix this but I hope he just fixes it.

He's nails a recruiter. We had to promote him to something or someone else would have snatched him up. We are just going to have to live with it until he learns because he's worth his weight in gold as a recruiter.

In all fairness that stat is somewhat skewed. It's comparing Strong defenses across different conferences and eras. We are facing a lot more dynamic offenses than he did at Louisville, SCar, and Florida.

You need to compare that to other Big 12 D coordinators, but I am guessing it will still not bode well for Strong.

Like corners not blowing assignments and the safety being someone with more speed?

I should take that back, because I likely said something similar in 2013. It is possible to reverse course on defense, we have seen it done with Greg Robinson, but it kind of makes me vomit a little that Strong has something in common with 2013 Mack.

It really matters very little to me.

It's 4 OOC games and 4 conference games thus far.

Cal-2 Lost both
BYU-1 Lost
ND-1 Won

TCU-2 Lost both
Tech-1 Lost
ISU-1 Texas won

He's 2-6 in those games over 40 points.

I just can't put my finger on it.

When Mac I was the coach - he was a defensive genius, but had no concept of offense, thus Texas had some of the best defenses I can remember, but outside of when the Cash twins were here, we had horrible offenses.

When Mac II was coach, we had some very good offenses, but defenses were horrible (sorry Clob).

When Mack III took over, his back ground was offense, but he relied more on his assistants and he was the CEO, it worked for a while until he retired in 2010 and decided not to tell anyone.

Now we have another defensive genius, but our defense for the last two years has layed a huge egg. I don't get it?

If that is the case, he won't last long.

I don't know. He is still a great recruiter so his teams will win some games. I seriously doubt he's getting fired after this year unless we just bomb. We'll beat Kansas and ISU, even if you want to call the rest toss ups, we aren't losing them all, so if we split we will be around 7 wins. My fear is he can hover around that bar (7-9 wins maybe an occasional 10) for awhile before he gets fired at Texas.

Message board fans may demand playoff contender year in and year out, but that hasn't been the reality of what our administration has demanded in the past. Maybe that's changed. Maybe it's just Bedford really effing up and Charlie can fix it and maintain a consistent D with any number of coordinators.

It wasn't just players out of position. It was also poor play calling on D. You just can't blitz every 3rd down, and you sure as hell can't show early. Cal was getting the ball out quick, and when they didn't Webb would literally back up another 5 yds. He has a pretty good arm and could retreat and still make the throw. We can't leave our DBs on an island like that. We were WAY too predictable and Cal knew what was coming on far too many of those 3rd downs. It sickened me to watch, because I knew what was coming and I've never coached.

The part that bothers me most is how many wide open WRs we allow. We saw it against ND and again today. The DBs are taking themselves out of plays by trying to execute the scheme instead of just playing ball. We have the talent but it is being limited by scheme. That's a coaching issue.
Right on

They had one primary receiver in Hansen, blown coverage killed them....The scheme wasn't all that bad.

Now you tell me!....Antwon Davis did not even make the trip to Berkley...That had Bonny playing ...a lot...That explains part of the suckage. So what is the deal with Davis? Is he hurt or just in the doghouse?

People for goodness sake settle down. This is also the same Vance Bedford that has held the Baylor offense to 21 and 17 points in the two games he went against Art Briles. It's also the same Vance Bedford who had a golden game plan in last year's OK game. So good we had what 10 sacks? We also kept Sterling Shepard out of the end zone and nobody else that OK played last year can say that.

For cryin out loud our best dt's are less than 6 months removed from the senior prom anyone thought about that? Apparently not. And if our top seniors are Paul Boyette, Bryce Cottrell, and Dylan Haines were in trouble. Anyone thought about that? The coaches and players are still getting on the same page. Look this isn't basketball where the starting lineup can be all freshman and you can still compete there's 11 guys on a fb team not 5.

We have our only off week coming up that gives us time to correct our mistakes. Yes, our d played terrible and Cal is only an average team but it's way to early to scream for the dc's head.
Then what in the hell do you recommend?

Didn't watch the whole game but that was some Manny _iaz level confusion on there. Blown coverage left and right, guys not on the same page, piss poor tackling in space. Its the D Strong ran at Fl under Urban Meyer. He needs to have a lot more control over what is going on.

2016-3 games, 2 shootouts (ND & CAL). I saw our defensive struggles against ND and knew we were not very good. VB, historically, is not good in the Big 12 (just like Watson). I'm a stats guy and student of history. Therefore, I believe the defense will not improve with VB in burnt orange. I'm not sold Strong can "fix it " (sounds like Mack Brown-"I can fix it").

A lot of us saw those defensive issues against ND and were told to "calm down we won". That is why you have to expect everyone to do their job every play of every game...Because this is what happens.

You know what I haven't posted on this agenda but I am glad we lost so we could open the eyes of the young ones we go from unranked to 11th in the nation like that. The young kids were probably all gitty and happy and let it go to their head and was cocky about it. And then this lost also showed the coaches more that there are plenty of things that surfaced that need to be dealt with. Glad it is over a bye week and not during the peak of the schedule cause we would all be calling for strongs head and herman would be on line one not saying that isn't a bad thing.
