Had a chin wag this morning and I was told that there are members of the BOR that have dug their heels in and refuse to fire charlie until his 5 years are up. Like, they are DEMANDING that he be given his full 5 years to coach.

I was told that there are BOR members literally pitching a fit about him being let go........ this could be a long offseason.

To be honest unless you can tell me someone like Harbaugh is going to replace him I'm fine with him coming back at least next season. Besides him there is littersrly no one out there that we could hire today that we won't be able to hire this time next year.

That said we will see how the next couple weeks go. A blow out against TCU could change some things. Or even god forbid a loss against KU

I don't thing one is directly related to the other but if I had to guess, I would say that members of the BOR that are digging their heels in are doing so for social reasons other than basing it on emperical data.

I don't see the need to hire a big name DC. Let Charlie keep calling the D. That's clearly working. Hire a DB coach and ride that way.

Agreed. The D has made great strides since Bedford got sent to his room. If Charlie stays, I'd love to see him stay in charge of the D. Fire our abomination of a DB coach, hire someone who knows what they're doing there, and then use the extra coaching vacancy to hire someone who can unf*ck the special teams.

Why POS? Because he let someone else deal with the Reggie Bush fall out? Hardly the first to do that. Saban ran out on the Dolphins to go to Bama. A lot of the good coaches aren't the best people and aren't that loyal either.

Yes, it's going to be damn near impossible to find 2 guys in the same Era to have v runs like they are simultaneously having right now.

No matter we keep Strong or not, this recruiting cycle is dead. We shall see moving forward what he can do to right the ship.

At the end of the season (assuming 1-2 more wins), extend him a year or two but keep his buyout the same. If we end up firing him next year, we face the same cost, but gives him cover with recruits this cycle that he'll be around. He'll close with a top twenty class that's got some ballers, and will be able to show next season that he has righted the ship.

i'm okay with charlie being let go or coming back. i can see both sides. earlier in the year, i was in the gotta go camp. now i think vance probably still gotta go. but the defense has improved since charlie took the reins
