How soon will the Longhorns and Sooners join the SEC?

July 2023 Cincy, ucf, and Houston will join Big XII after reaching exit agreement with aac.
So I would bet it would be safe to assume OU and UT will be in the SEC in 2023. The gossip about OU not being able to afford an exit fee is laughable. Good lord.

No one said that "OU couldn't afford it". Word is they don't want to pay the exit fee.

Will Lebby's offense be as good as it was under Riley? Can that left handed transfer pick up the slack? I'll be watching for this. There's plenty of talent on their offense.

But for me all I want to know is can Sarkisian beat Venables?

Charlie Strong and Tom Herman notched wins against OU. I’m sure Sark can. I know we as fan bases like to use red River as a benchmark. The truth is it really isn’t.

Venables is a step down from Riley. You don't want to admit it, but deep down you know it's true. No way OU duplicates the same success that Riley had under Venables.
I think OU has as good a shot as any at winning the conference this year. I can almost guarantee that you won’t see the back and forth crap all game long like we saw almost weekly under Riley. Remember the Kansas miracle last year where if not for a heads up play by our QB we would have lost to them too? Pathetic. With NIL it’s difficult to gauge recruits. But we’ve got a 5 star qb coming in from Denton Ryan and Lebby seems to be pulling some players on offense.

There is only 1 defense I recall in recent memory that absolutely smacked Bama around in an NC game and that was led by Venables. I Will be willing to bet that our offense and defense looks much better than last year. Will Venables win 4 straight CCG? Hard to say but not probable especially with the move to the SEC. I sure don’t recall Riley pulling any recruits at ECU do you?

So Venables has been a championship coach for a long time and has an OC whose offenses have been more productive than Riley’s the last 3 or 4 years with much less talent so I think OU will be fine.

Also, some interesting comments coming out of OU defensive players that were drafted regarding Grinch and his “special” defense

You shoulda just said "shut the **** up you moron" 😂

OU won’t be the same without Riley’s offensive schemes. However, as much as I dislike the Sooners they still have a better team than us right now. That’s not to say that we can’t beat them this season. We absolutely are capable of beating them. We must be 100% better defensively if we want to win this season. Until I see major improvement on that side of the ball, I won’t be buying in. I’ll always support them and root hard for them but they have to show us something early in the season.

I don’t know that they have a better team than us right now… they did before all the transfers and stuff. I’d probably call us pretty even at the moment.

Sark's got you guys on a better path since Mack. Suck it up brother, go with it. Brent's also gonna beat yer ass in the shootout in his first year. 😁

If we can become more consistent defensively, we’ll win 9-10 games. I know we’re going to score the ball with Sarkisian and our weapons. We have no proven kicker which may cost us a game or two. If it all comes together defensively and special teams this year, our opponents are in big trouble.

back to the original topic, i find it hard to believe the b12 will want a situation where Texas and oklahoma donkeystomp any or all of their newcomers. now they would rightfully have a wet dream if one or all were to beat UT and OU, but are they so sure that that can happen that they are willing to risk that PR hit if it goes our way?

I would agree and I would think the new commissioner that comes in would want to just put this issue to bed and start fresh

I'm not impressed with the Venables hire. Lebby was a very good addition, but we'll see. As others have said, I'm not buying in until I see something consistent on the field with Texas.

I am not sure I agree MM. I suspect OU will not miss a beat.

Get welcome mat ready for 'Horns, OU

A lot of talk is going on at the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla., most of it about football and scheduling.
Some teams want a nine-game SEC schedule, others want eight so they can get the home-game payday and a win every year.
It may be nothing is determined this week because all the changes that are coming to the SEC are because Texas and Oklahoma are joining in 2025, although indications are it could be earlier since the Big 12 is adding four new teams next season. So why would they want teams who want out of the league hanging around?
Of course there is the issue of money.
According to the Big 12 bylaws, because the schools each made $38 million last fiscal year that’s how much they would owe the conference.
Not that they can’t afford it, but expect a negotiated buyout and the Longhorns and Sooners joining the league sooner than later.
Understand, money is why both schools are leaving.
Those two got a bigger share of the Big 12 revenue pie than the rest of the members, so they wouldn’t be leaving if they weren’t going to make more. Lots more.
Last year, the SEC signed a $3 billion deal with Disney, which owns ABC and ESPN, and if you think that amount didn’t include Texas and Oklahoma being in the SEC you aren’t paying attention.
The SEC was already the most powerful league in the country, and adding those two giants to its footprint just upped the ante big time.
Of course, there are tons of things to work out before the Longhorns and Sooners are competing on the SEC playing fields, but it does seem like the perfect time to realign the conference.
If they stay in two divisions then obviously UT and OU will want to be in the West — they have no idea what it is like to compete with Alabama every year — which makes geographical sense.
Missouri should be in the West, too, but the simplest solution, and the one that would seem the best for the majority, would be to stay in the East. However, two teams would need to slide toward the sunrise, and what two better to do that than Alabama and Auburn.
The West would have recruiting rich Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and LSU.
The East would have Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Auburn who are in fertile recruiting areas.
That is just a suggestion that most likely will be ignored.
The SEC will continue discussions this week about the future of the league, including schedules, but there is no rush.
Heck, very few even knew Commissioner Greg Sankey was negotiating with Disney until after the deal was done.

Remember when Joe Brady was a football genius. A brilliant football mind that had record setting offenses at LSU. An unstoppable OC who was destined for greatness in the NFL. Fast forward a few years and he gets fired because of a stagnant offense that cant score at Carolina. Maybe it was more Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Jamarr Chase and Clyde Edwards Helaire and just about any OC would have looked like a genius with those guys.

So Back to Lebby. How much of the offense was his and how much was run by Lane Kiffin? How much of that offense was because of what Matt Corral was doing? At UFC how much of the Offense was Scott Frost or Josh Heupel. I really don't know because I haven't watched much UCF or Ole Miss. I would be cautiously optimistic about the hire but this is the first time he will be running the show without an offensive minded head coach

Riley went 55-10 at OU in five years. With the move to the SEC, the chances of duplicating that record in the next five years is very slim.

Those 3 loses in a row in the Rose, Orange and Peach are the epitome of Riley. He can sure whip up on a conference but anyone with equal or better talent good luck. Dude was good at out athlete-ing people. He made comments last week saying as much. He felt he had the 3rd or 4th best roster in all of those bowl games. To me a coach shouldn't ever say that unless he was making excuses for coaching deficiencies. In his own words if he didn't have the most talented roster he didn't have a chance. Pathetic. I guarantee Venables will coach the players up way better than Riley did.

We shall see about Venables. I respectfully disagree.

I think that success was a lot more Kiffin and Heupel than it was Lebby. It’s going to be super interesting with him not having an offensive minded head coach.

Personally I think OU takes a step back next year. I think they lost a lot of talent and the talent they replaced it with is inferior to the guys that were there last season.
