I think we can all agree that the kid is a football player, but a QB...ehhhh. I could see them doing something similar to what ISU did with Joel Lanning.

He was an average QB but tough as nails. After moving him to LB he became the focal point of that defense. Sam is 6’3 230...and we’re thin at LB. I know it’s far fetched but the chances of him being a QB at the next level are slim to none.

It's so hard to play linebacker at the college level.

Unbelievably hard.

Very true. It’s not out of the realm of possibility and highly unlikely. I firmly believe next year either Rising starts or Johnson as a Freshman. It kinda leaves Ehlinger on the outside looking in.

How many pro qb's regress in year 2? All of them. Why? The coaching staff opens the playbook and it becomes hard again. Give him some time. He was pressing last year and this year. It will come, relax. He is a gamer...

He has problems reading defenses. He doesn’t progress through his reads and he’s probably the most inaccurate passer on the roster. He’s tough, I’ll give him that. He also makes piss poor decisions when the ball is in his hands.

I hope you're right, I really do, but I just don't see it. He's wildly inaccurate most of the time, and makes dumb decisions that have nothing to do with the playbook. Like throwing the ball away on a 2 point conversion. I mean, you have two receivers bigger and taller than anybody on the defense, and you don't give them a chance? On a freakin 2 pointer?

I also think guys are giving him too much credit as an athlete. He's a decent athlete, yes, but we don't need a decent athlete playing h back or linebacker. His future is the bench, then likely a transfer. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

He was average at qb until OU played them last year and they had to put him back at qb due to being decimated by injuries. We made him look like a heisman contender.

We need to put him in the band as that is pretty much goodness we got going for us at this time, keep him healthy...LOL!

Maryland was smiling, laugh in on the sideline from the get go. They played loose. Our Horns were tight. If they loosen up, play excited, they'll be fine.

Ok, I get it. You think one of the freshmen is going to be the savior. What happens when they are not? They are going to have to cut the playbook down to the most simple of reads. To win championships, we need a QB that's not wet behind the ears. If the freshmen pass him in practice, I'm sure Herman would pull the trigger. You want to see our future? Go watch West Virginia kill Tennessee. We are Tennessee. Not the team but the fan base. With all the bitching and whining that fan base does...... they are at the bottom of the barrel and won't be relevant for a generation. They suck but if we keep bitching and hopping around, that's what we will get.

It's not about that. It's about doing irreparable damages to the position NOW, rather than later.

Here's what I mean--

Remember the wr kid that said he wanted to come to Texas his whole life but Ohio state sends people to the pros because they develop their talent?

What 5 star QB watched this game and believes that we have "developed" Sam in any capacity?

Answer-- none.

So the 5 star QB sees us trot out Sam again next week and beat up on Tulsa? Or the 5 star QB sees us put a freshman in the mix because "hey, what have we got to lose?".

Now, I ask you----- if you're sitting at home and you're a 5 star QB, and you see us start Sam again, what message is that sending you........as a Texas recruit?

I think Fromm from Georiga was a freshman last year right? And the qb from Clemson this year is a freshman right? I won't bring up Hurt from bama either cause its bama.

Shug is probably thinking he can take over right away, which he probably will, but yes you are right. It's not a good look for most guys.

Hate to break it to anybody, but, Sam will continue to be our QB. Herman loves him to death. He may play Boo more, who knows. If Boo makes things happen, then we will have heard the last of Sam. All Boo has to do, IMO, other than move the chains, is to show gritty body language. I thought Clob was right on about his specific body language he displayed at times. That was last year, though, and hopefully somebody he trusts brought that to his attention and the negative secondary effects it causes. There will be bad things happen in every game and Boo can't let it frustrate him. Anyway, moving on, If any of you caught the post game LHN Gameday, I thought Shipley was right on with his assessment. As everybody on the panel pretty much delicately criticized Sam, Shipley said that it was best that TH kept Sam in the game. You had to see how it played out. If you yanked him without seeing if he could rally the team, then you would never know. Hid didn't say it like this but, it is like a necessary evil.

Well I guess Saban didn't think like when he was losing in a national championship game and brought in a true freshman who brought the team back and the rest is history.

For every Tua Tagovailoa there is a Garrett Gilbert.

Edit: the ratio is more like 1:20

6'3?! LOL no sir. He's 5'11 tops.

Umm... what qb will want to play at a school where the qb gets less than a season to establish himself? Also what coach is going to come here if we are wanting to fire our coach after 1 season +1 game?

Ok that's two completely different things. Of course you don't fire a coach like that. Minimum 3, I still think 4 years. Yes, coaches would look at that as a big negative.

High school QBs? Not so much. They're thinking about how they can come in and make a splash ASAP. If the coach shows he's not scared to yank an obviously struggling QB, and turn to a younger guy, that's a big plus.

He's sitting there thinking about his freshman year, and seeing that lets him know he has a chance to make that immediate impact. If the coach sticks with the more experienced bum no matter what, he's thinking, "damn I'm gonna have to wait til that dude leaves before I can play." Not good.

Coaches think about the future. High school kids think about now.

I guess this is why so many fail.

Sam needs to bend the yardstick upward. He needs to go 2-1 over the next 3 games. If not, Bueschele gets his last gasp and once he breaks then a frosh starts. I would prefer sam go 2-1 over the next 3 going into ou. Boo gets killed by ou.

I think some people take things like that circle drill crap against little bitty Shane as proof to how tough Sam is. Yeah, lemme see that f*cker in the circle against Anthony Wheeler. Don't think that's gonna work out so well.

My opinion on SB has nothing to do with circle drills. It's what I've seen on the field. The defense can easily jump his throws to the flats. He doesn't have the arm strength. Also, the secondary can cheat in off the out routes, see above.

I was talking about people wanting to see him play LB. I agree on Sam the QB, but I don't think he can LB either.

(clob looks through his posts for where he commented on firing Herman after 1 year and 1 game.......) Nope. Clob didn't say that.

Clob will reiterate his comment----- ready?

What would it hurt, in a game against the almighty TULSA, to trot out a freshman qb for a quarter or two, knowing that it won't cost him his redshirt, and give that kid an opportunity to prove himself----- since everyone with two functioning brain cells could see that Sam has obviously not progressed much as a player.

If I'm a 5 start qb recruit, I'm licking my chops. Know why???

The 5 star kid isn't thinking, "dang bro! If that were me, I'd be pissed about getting benched after the 1st game of my second year!!!!"

The 5 star kid is thinking "Hell ya they need to switch it up! I'd be pissed if I were behind Sam in the lineup and he stunk it against Maryland and I didn't get a chance to play!".

Why? Because 5 star qb's have an ego. That ego tells them that they are the best. They would BELIEVE that they could get the job done.

Bill Bradley (Super Bill) started out as a quarterback for the Horns and ended up as an All-American defensive back.

I 100% agree with this. What would it hurt to see how Rising does? If he doesn’t get it done then you go back to what you have.

But things that seem obvious is not what this coaching staff likes to do.

I've already begun to tune TH out. Is that a bad sign?

I'm right there with you.

Before anybody takes this as me saying I want him fired, I'M NOT. I won't say anything like that until he's had at least three years. I'm just done with the talk. He's gonna have to show me he's got some common goddamn sense.

1) QB Ain't workin' bruh, Tulsa is time to look to the future.

2) RB actually has vision. RB makes a TD look easy by following his eyes, not his blockers. RB looks better than any other. RB better goddamn play.

PCs are useless anyway.

Like I said in another thread...I will defend the coaching profession with vigor, but I cannot defend the fascination with Kyle Porter. Doing shit like they do with him is stuff that’ll get you fired. He’s not good...at all
