If you have five QBs, then you really have?

Hard to tell what's going on with Locksley. Are the coaches trying to make a point to him by not giving him reps, or is he just not good enough?

If he just has to far to go to be a QB, he should move to WR. Not sure why they would leave him at QB but not give him any reps.

In last night's practice video the pass McNeal caught was from Kai. Also, there are photos from Monday of him under center so he just wasn't seen during the media portion.

I have heard consistently all week that Swoopes is in the first group, for reps, by himself. I have to imagine there is something to that, or else it wouldn't be coming from all sources. I'm just going to have to get myself in the mindset of believing that this system and these coaches can turn him into a productive QB. Feels like reaching up and touching a hot stove, over and over, hoping this time it won't burn. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...well, you can't fool me twice (George W. Bush).

Per Chip who claims to have a couple of sources on the offensive staff...Swoopes is the lead guy. Remains in the "first group" by himself. Beyond just reps though, the new staff believe that he posses the skill set to make the new offense work, and that he can very productive in the new scheme. It's only two practices into the spring, but it seems a third year of the Swoopes era is likely. May god have mercy on our souls.
Swoopes seems like a good guy, and I was impressed that he embraced a lesser role last year as a short yardage QB, but ... if he trots out with the offense next fall on the first series of the season, it will be time to start going over coaching resumes. Somebody please chain Heard into the freaking film room, if that's what it takes. Or figure out a pass pattern that Kai can throw accurately. Or go full blown wildcat with Foreman at QB and Warren at RB. Or just punt on first down. We cannot have this happen. Again.

I think the film room is less a drawback for Heard than his inability to spin the ball. His passes flutter at best and go end over end at worst ( although that end over end one from yesterday did result in a TD)

This is going to be the last year we have to worry about a QB. Well that is my feelings on this. I think Swoops as a senior can be an excellent game manager, I also think Heard needs to not get his head down and realize he is still in this, but he needs to take his professionalism to the next level if he wants to compete.

I'm not sure. Both are pretty bad drawbacks. He can read only the simplest of coverages...some of the time. Kind of limits what you can do on offense. But, then again, so do passes that look like punts.

Rumors Kai is now being asked to catch passes. Guess we can put him on transfer watch.

Yeah I saw that also. If he's having trouble beating out an EE true freshman he really needs to look at playing WR.

I hope he sticks and doesn't transfer.

From Gilbert's presser yesterday.

-- Gilbert was asked if a position change could be in store for redshirt freshman Kai Locksley. He said it might, but that’s not something the coaches are actively looking at right now.

I always thought that's where he'd best be suited. But I also agree that it is too early.

We are in this flux of needing something so bad at QB that we aren't giving any of them the time to properly develop. Reports are Locksley has some arm strength, kind of is grasping the O, and is inaccurate. Now inaccuracy is the last thing I'd hope a guy to improve over time (normally you are either a guy that can spin it on a dime or not). But it isn't unheard of. Considering he is still young and settling in, he can grow in that area. (see someone like Trevone Boykin)

Again, I always thought he'd transition to WR. But even if they move him now, I still think they should give him snaps at QB over the course of the next year and offseason. If I am him, I am staying late with some support staff after each practice to throw more. Even if I move to WR. Put in the work young man. Instead he will more than likely end up xferring. That's the reality now. No one sits for years and perfects their craft and waits their turn. You want it now. And you want what you want. Not the team.

Based on Gilbert's comments it sounds like Buchele might be the guy. He laid out what they wanted in a QB. Buchele was the only one that checked off all the boxes. He also made a point of commenting that he has had success with young players in the past.

I like the growth we have at just about every position. I have hope in a few years the QB position will be settled with Buechele/Ehlinger.

The big issue here is that in the pass happy BigXII, you absolutely can not get by in shoot out after shoot out with mediocre QB play.

We will see how much the scheme can cover up the limited QB. I really like Buechele, but he will be limited by youth. The other guys will be limited simply because they can't complete a pass.
