Here are a few notes gathered from sources regarding Texas' fifth practice of Fall 2016 and the first in full pads:

- The team spent "the first half-hour" (practices are only around two hours long normally) doing inside drills, bull-in-the-ring matchups and live goal-line work after stretching. As usual, Charlie Strong's staff gave anyone not prepared for some hitting a rude awakening to "full-contact" practice.

- With this said, we were told that the team was given "a lot of breaks" on Wednesday to cool off and get water out of the heat. Normally the team gets a big break in the middle of practice, but we were told that the team got to relax three times through Wednesday's practice.

- We reported Tuesday night that Lorenzo Joe was slated to miss what is likely to be the rest of fall camp. Joe did not practice Wednesday and UT sent out an email Wednesday afternoon confirming our report. The issue is a hamstring and Joe will miss "extended time" per UT.

- We reported on Wednesday afternoon that D'Onta Foreman was in a walking boot on Tuesday but that medical tests had shown the injury he suffered (reportedly from Poona Ford rolling on his ankle) was minor. Foreman did not practice with the team on Wednesday evening, but was reportedly in full pads and doing extensive work on the sidelines with the trainers. I'm sticking by my original report on this situation. Foreman could be back as soon as tomorrow, but I wouldn't expect him to be utilized heavily in any upcoming scrimmage or 11-on-11 team settings.

- Jerrod Heard is still at WR (we should probably just call the move all-but-official at this point) and had a big practice on Wednesday. Orangebloods first reported Jerrod Heard trading in QB meetings for the WR room on July 25. One person on Wednesday said that, with Joe now sidelined and Ryan Newsome and Deandre McNeal gone for Texas' first padded practice of 2016, it's actually created a bit of a void at the inside receiver position among veterans -- and Heard has taken advantage. I was told, between 7v7 and team drills, that Heard scored "at least three touchdowns" as a receiver in one practice alone. Expect him to be heavily involved.

- The starting offensive line unit remained the same for the first day in pads.

- No news is good news for Tristan Nickelson at the RT because I was certainly expecting a rough report or two about how he was handling pass-rush opposition to surface by now based on what we've seen on 2015 film.

- The passing play of the day was reportedly a "beautiful" deep TD bomb in 7v7 from Tyrone Swoopes to freshman WR Davion Curtis.

- Freshman DT Chris Daniels remains in the pit.

- I asked a good source who the frontrunner to handle punt-return duties was in 2016 and was told it's "a ways off" before any decisions are made, but if a front-runner had to be named it would be WR Jacorey Warrick.

- Haven't heard this name much through fall camp, but it's always interesting to hear what players open some eyes on the first day pads go on: on Wednesday, freshman safety Chris Brown apparently had some nice pass break-ups in coverage that showed his ability to reach for the football and close aggressively to the catch-point.
