Cliff-notes: Texas picked up its 1st commitment for the 2018 class on Saturday, as Ocala (Florida) Vanguard athlete Justin Watkins committed to Tom Herman and Co. while visiting Austin for the school's Junior Day event. Prior to his commitment to the Longhorns, Watkins had been committed to Florida State.

Rankings: The Florida prep star is a mid-four star prospect (5.9) that is regarded as the No.74 prospect nationally in current 2018 Rivals100. Overall, he’s regarded as the No.4 athlete in the entire country and the No.18 prospect in the Florida in the current Rivals rankings.

Key Offers: Pretty much everyone. In addition to his offer from the Seminoles, Watkins has offers from the likes of Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Evaluation: The 6-0, 160-pound Watkins is a game-breaker with the ball in his hands, whether he's returning kicks or making yards after the catch as a receiver. When it comes to getting behind the secondary, he's rates as one of the top pure vertical threats in the nation. A tough, physical receiver for his size, Watkins is fearless when competing for the football.

Why it matters: The purpose of recruiting is to land big-time players that can impact a game in the blink of an eye and that's exactly what Watkins represents. In addition to his nationally elite skill set, he's the first commitment in the 2018 class, which means that the Longhorns recruiting class is officially building some steam.

Enjoy: Here’s a look at Watkins in action.
