Cliff-notes: Southlake Carroll (Southlake) athlete Lil’Jordan Humphrey became the 15th member of the Texas recruiting class when he announced his commitment this evening. The Longhorns have been thought to be the leader for a long time now, and that resulted in a commitment tonight just a few days before National Signing Day.
Key Offers: Humphrey took official visits to Wisconsin and California, and holds offers from both. In addition to those two schools, the in-state product has offers from Iowa, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Washington, Colorado, and others.
Evaluation: Listed at 6-4, 200 pounds, Humphrey is rated as a three-star prospect, and is the No. 41 prospect in the 2016 LSR 100. At Southlake Carroll during his career, he lined up all over the place on offense, and mostly at running back or receiver.
When you consider that he’s already 6-4 and might not be done growing, receiver or a pass-catching tight-end/h-back makes sense. Humphrey appears to be a soft-catcher of the football with good ball-skills. He also isn’t afraid to use his body to go across the middle of the field. Speaking of that body, Humphrey is a talented basketball prospect as well, and that shows on the football field in the way he positions and uses his body to make plays. For a player of his size, he’s a solid route-runner and has some deceptive speed.
Why it matters: The more potential play-makers, the better for Texas. Humphrey gives the Longhorns something unique, and different from the rest of the roster. He’s a talented, athletic prospect that has room for growth in order to reach his ceiling.
