Cliffs Notes: Texas took a right hook to the chin in recruiting on Thursday when 2025 Duncanville star Dakorien Moore gave a verbal pledge to Oregon.

Rankings: Here's the industry breakdown...

LSR (6.1): 5-star, No.1 in Texas
Rivals: (6.1) 5-star, No.4 nationally, No.1 in Texas
ESPN: (92) 5-star, No.3 nationally, No.1 in Texas
On3: (98) 5-star, No.3 nationally, No.1 in Texas
247: (98) 5-star, No.5 nationally, No.2 in Texas
247 composite: (.9990) 5-star, No.3 nationally, No.1 in Texas

Notable offers: Oregon (OV 6/21), Ohio State (OV 5/31), Ohio State (5/31), Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and USC

Evaluation: The state of Texas has been cranking out 5-star wide receivers like a slot machine shoots out coins in Vegas and Moore projects as the best of a bunch that includes several prospects that went on to become NFL first-round picks. Let's start with the speed because Moore's ability to blow the top off of a defense is superior to any of the elite Texas-prep receivers of the last decade. Very much like Xavier Worthy, Moore is so fast and gets open to such wide degrees that it's often tough at the high school level for quarterbacks to hit him in stride. Of course, his speed is the cherry on top of the sundae because Moore brings a diverse set of skills to the table. Outstanding route runner? Check. Tremendous ball skills? Check. The ability to stop and start on a dime? Check? Makes guys miss in a phone booth? Check. Moore is basically the most near-perfect wide receiver prospect that the state of Texas has probably ever produced.

Why it matters: Besides the fact that Moore is the highest-rated wide receiver that the state has ever produced? Well, he's from a high school that the Longhorns forever want to create a pipeline to. He would give Arch Manning one of the most dangerous downfield targets in the country as soon as he steps on campus. Landing him would also announce to the rest of the nation that you can't just come in and take the No.1 prospect in the state without the Longhorns standing in the way. Bottom line - there's not a player that the Longhorns want more from the 2025 recruiting year and they just missed him... even if for just a while (best case scenario).

Expectations: I fully expect the Longhorns to continue fighting for Moore all the way until the finish line. Expect the Longhorns to do everything possible to win this battle in November/December, but it's not going to be easy.
