Cliffs Notes: The Texas commitment train kept rolling tonight, when Rivals250 linebacker Ayodele Adeoye announced his commitment to the Longhorns. He’s the second linebacker to commit to Texas, and the 11th member of the 2018 class.
Rankings: Rivals.com rates Adeoye as the No. 229 prospect nationally, and the No. 10 inside linebacker prospect. Among Missouri prospects, he checks in at No. 6 on the list.
Key offers: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M all extended offers.
Evaluation: Physically, it’s tough to find any linebackers nationally that look as impressive as Adeoye does. Despite being months away from his senior season, the four-star linebacker, listed at 6-2, 220 pounds (looks more like 6-1, 230), looks ready to contribute at the collegiate level now. It starts in his lower half, and you can see that in tape when he drives through ball-carriers with ease, displaying very impressive tackling ability.
Rivals.com analysts noted the same during his standout camp performance in St. Louis: “One of the most physically impressive prospects at the camp at any position, Adeoye shined in the tackling drill, doing a good job of locking in on running backs hips and not falling for the jukes that left some of his fellow defenders grasping for air.”
For a middle linebacker, it appears like Adeoye moves well laterally, and can hold his own in coverage or as a blitzer. But it again gets back to his tackling. He delivers a ton of force with hits, yet does so in a controlled manner, often with shoulders squared to the opponent. He also excels at using his strength to get off blocks and hold his balance.
According to STLhighschoolsports.com, Adeoye had games with the following tackle numbers: 20, 20, 18, 17, 17, 12, 11.
Why it matters: Fresh off a multi-day visit, Adeoye pulled the trigger. So, that’s an out-of-state, Rivals250 prospect enjoying his visit and the connection with the coaching staff so much that he commits almost immediately after. Plus, Adeoye is one of the best inside backers in the country.
