Cliff-notes: The Longhorns will start off their recruiting weekend about as well as they could have imagined because Gary Johnson, a JUCO linebacker from Dodge City Community College (Dodge City, Kansas), just committed to Texas. He's the 15th member of the 2017 class. Johnson is a sophomore currently, and will arrive at Texas for his junior season.

Rankings: Johnson is a four-star prospect rated as the nation's No. 4 JUCO prospect. Assigned a 6.0 Rivals Rating, Johnson is the equivalent of a high-end Rivals100 prospect.
Key offers: Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Oregon, TCU, and USC all offered Johnson.
Evaluation: Rather than type something up, I'll direct you to Alex Dunlap's scouting report from earlier this week. Perfect timing, Alex.
Why it matters: Anytime a program can land an immediate impact JUCO player that can start and fill a need from day one, it's a huge get, especially when that player has offers from the schools that Johnson does. As Texas shifts to Todd Orlando's 3-4 defense, it needed a middle linebacker that could be an impact player against the run inside the box, and also has the ability to attack or cover in space.
Enjoy:
Johnson has All-Big 12 and future NFL talent.
