Cliff-notes: Texas picked up its 4th commitment for the 2018 class on Saturday, as Newbury Park, California quarterback Cameron Rising flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to Texas in one of the biggest shock moves of the 2018 recruiting year.

Rankings: The Cali prep star is a mid-four star prospect (5.9) that is regarded as the No.52 prospect nationally in current 2018 Rivals100. Overall, he’s regarded as the No.3 pro-style quarterback in the entire country and the No.6 prospect in the California in the current Rivals rankings.

Key Offers: Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State and UCLA

Evaluation: The commitment of Rising is a fascinating one because he's more in the mold of a pro-style thrower than the dual-threat weapon that Tom Herman is most known for producing in his offenses. In terms of throwing the football, Rising is as impressive as just about anyone in the country. At 6-3, 215 pounds, Rising is a stout, physically developed kid that will impress you with his ability to make all of the throws on the Chris Landry passing tree. His touch on deep balls will remind you of Shane Buechele and his overall command of the position is a major plus.

(
From Rivals last Spring): "The ball comes out quickly because he’s so precise in his motions, and he has an impressively strong arm. The 2018 four-star quarterback from Newbury Park, Calif. does rely too much on his arm when throwing and needs to use more of his body to get the ball out, but he zips it and he has great accuracy on his throws. He throws the deep ball well and hits receivers in rhythm. If he needs to work on something it’s using his whole body in his throws, but other than that Rising is really an impressive recruit."

Why it matters: Wow. Talk about an earthquake shaking moment in the 2018 class. In a year when taking two quarterback commitments was absolutely needed to shore up scholarship quarterback numbers for the future, Texas not only added one of the nation's elite from the state of California, but it stole it away from its No.1 rival in Norman. This gives the Longhorns two national 250 quarterback prospects in this class and it sends a massive statement to other prospects around the country that Herman has something potentially special brewing in Austin. A mushroom shaped recruiting cloud just went boom on a Saturday night in late April.

Enjoy: Here’s a look at Rising in action.
