Cliffs Notes: No.3 Texas dominated No.5 LSU 21-9 in the 4th quarter to come from behind to beat the Tigers 65-58 on Sunday at The Moody Center.
The Participants: No.3 Texas (26-2, 12-1, No.3 NET ranking and No.5 LSU (25-2, 10-2, No.10 NET ranking))
Game MVP: After a slow start a really, really, really slow start (she missed her first 10 shots from the field), Madison Booker finished on a heater, scoring 8 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. While she was only 3 for 17 from the floor, Booker was a perfect 10 of 1- from the free throw line, while finishing with a team-high 10 rebounds and 2 steals.
Game MVP No.2: I just love Rori Harmon's game. She's all blood and guts, so when this game turned into a fist-fight in the fourth quarter, she was right at home, finishing with 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. More than her numbers, it was her never-ending hustle and fight that carried her afternoon. Twice in the final 2:26, Harmon knocked down shots that extended Texas leads. It was nice to see her put her fingerprints all over this game.
Key Stat: The Longhorns were a perfect 21 of 21 from the free throw line, including 17 in the second half, while LSU knocked down only 13 of 19 (68.4%).
Final Thoughts: What a game. These two battled like this was an NCAA Elite 8 game and the Longhorns deserve a lot of credit for winning on a day when they were second-best for much of the game, especially in the first half. This team just doesn't quit or ever stop playing defense. Tonight might have locked up a No.1 seed, as the Longhorns have beaten the No.5, No.8, No.2 and No.24 teams in the country in just the last two weeks.
