I saw a story on CNBC that said cable was dying. They said streaming is also headed that way. They are bumping against the willingness of the consumer to pay ever increasing prices.

The day of ever increasing payments for rights to sports is about over....

In the days of limited TV appearances, the Horns having a winning season was a guarantee of an extra TV appearance in a bowl game.

Doooode, it's only the olds paying for cable. The younger people quit years ago or never started. Please keep paying, I like free tv.

Doode....you missed the whole point. This has nothing to do with you getting free tv.... Scratch that....it has everything to do with you getting free tv....THAT is the point. TV revenue is drying up and all these super contracts these stars are getting (both sports and actors) are going to bankrupt their organizations when the revenue tap runs dry.

One way or another they are going to get your money. If cable and streaming is drying up they will just partner with the internet and phone providers and make an all inclusive entertainment package for the low rate of only $300 a month. People have to have internet now days, so I bet they lean on that. So you don't want to pay for TV, well guess what, your internet just went up.

Yes, I said this years ago. It was easy to see and I welcome the good news. The artsy fartsy fags are going to go back to doing theater for the love of it, not becuase they want $1M per play. Sports playas will be playin for the fun of it.... If they don't like it, become a farmer or a gardener. The farmers and gardeners are going to be making the best margins for 30 to 40 years.

Not only are "TV" prices/packages getting ridiculous so are seats, drink and snacks. People are just going to stop going. And it will be even worse for shitty teams like the CWS...what did they have, a few thousand at their games the last two months?

Reason why baseball contracts are so flipping high is 1, the amount of games they play vs. the roster size and 2 because of the insane amount of tv deals they signed.

There probably will not be a 2026 baseball season. And on the back end, I'm not sure baseball will survive this strike.

Well, I also watch CNBC. An NFL rep said that something absurd (17 of top 20) of the top watched shows were NFL games. Maybe it is because people still want to watch NFL games live- ditto for other sports.

Elsewhere we are in a golden age of quality programming. the networks and Google (YouTubeTV), Apple (TV+) and Amazon (Prime) are putting out high quality shows that are better than most movies you can see in theaters. They are after your eyeballs. Because a viewer's attention is the most valuable commodity these days. And with the money that Apple, Google and Amazon make in their core business, the cost of entertainment programming is a drop in the bucket.

But as for network TV? Yeah it is dying a slow death. There is only so much market for Bachelor and its spinoffs.

Hey now, the “Golden Bachelor and Bachelorette” will save the day!!
I’ve always and still am a Survivor fan. Just something with the family we watched when they were young. I actually applied to go to for season 3.

Nah, only Survivor. I’m a sports watcher and history channel guy, mostly WWII stuff. Man, so much of the history you never knew and what those people and soldiers went through blows me away. God bless them.

Yes, I try to explain this to people.... there are so many people that are not remember that were great. I tell my kids and kids at Sunday School that being famous is not a great goal. Greatness comes from how you spend your time. We can't take any possessions to Heaven, only people.

No, just be on the lookout over the next 18 months. It's coming. Owners are in panic mode. They see the end of the TV rainbow and it isn't full of gold. They have overextended themselves with these ridiculous contracts and interest is not there. Manfred is abysmal at his job. I know some folks that are high ups in a few baseball orgs.

Hopefully they work something out. But knowing the MLB Players Union, I'm not confident.
