If Herman turns out not to be the answer I can promise you the answer isn’t Nick Saban or Patterson. As stated Patterson isn’t leaving TCU and Saban is 66. Unless he plans of being Bill Snyder he’s 4-5 years away from retirement. Maybe Saban was possible at one point but that ship has sailed.

Swinney isn't going to leave Clemson for Texas. I think the only job he'd leave Clemson for is Alabama. Peterson is soured on Texas because of the way Harsin was treated. Franklin wasn't considered and won't ever be considered for reasons already discussed. All of this discussion is a moot point. Tom Herman is the head coach a Texas and he isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
We aren't poaching any championship level P5 coach. The boat didn't sail on those guys because it never really existed. It is just a figment of our imaginations that coaches want to leave their jobs because we are Texas. That's why we have hired guys like Strong and Herman who have had limited experience because coaches that have had major success don't just move around willy nilly.
Not disputing any of that. My point was simply if you want a “star” coach down the road those are the guys you’d be talking about. Not Nick Saban.
