Jim Grobe to BU

The word is that Grobe is above reproach, which is really what we need right now. And availability - he was retired. And a recognition that he is a 1 year stop gap. And willing to walk into a toilet where he will get hit with the same questions over and over for his term. I doubt there are many high quality coaches that fit those criteria.

From what Ive seen on some Baylor websites there's talk that Phil Bennett will be pink slipped before two a days start in August. What have you heard?

I lose track....but was Starr going from President to Chancellor?...I ask because I just read that Starr has resigned as Chancellor....What now?

I am hearing all assistants will be retained for the season (including K. Briles and Bennett), then the new coach will hire his own staff for 2017. But then again, I heard that no one would resign or be fired a week ago.

Puke. Still being a lying weasel and not owning up and he gets to teach ethics in a law classroom. He's resigning because he has to not because he chooses to.

Kenneth Starr is resigning as chancellor at Baylor in the wake of a huge shakeup at the university, but he will continue to teach in the law school, the former school president told ESPN's Joe Schad on Wednesday.

Starr said in an interview with Outside the Lines that he was resigning effective immediately "as a matter of conscience."

"We need to put this horrible experience behind us," Starr said. "We need to be honest."

Starr, 69, added that he "didn't know what was happening" regarding allegations of Baylor's mishandling of sexual assault allegations, but he "willingly accepted responsibility."

"The captain goes down with the ship," he said.

Starr said that he hopes his legacy is of someone who tried very hard, had some failings, but led Baylor to great success in many areas.

Also Wednesday, OTL confirmed that the U.S. Department of Education has received a Title IX complaint about Baylor's handling of sexual assault and violence allegations by students, including athletes. Holly Snyder, a 2001 Baylor graduate who lives near Kansas City, Missouri, said she filed a complaint late Tuesday. She wrote in her complaint that she felt compelled to come forward, "on behalf of all women to make [sure] that Baylor is investigated to the full extent regarding actions it took to create a climate that covered up sexual violence on campus for years."

The U.S. Department of Education indicated last week that it would investigate Baylor if it received a complaint within its jurisdiction, but a spokesman said Wednesday it could take up to a month to confirm whether a complaint meets the criteria to start an investigation.

Starr doing this PR for appearances, reports are he's coming off as completely tone deaf. They're interviewing a rape victim in between his oblivious comments.

Speechless. The fact he still holds any position at Baylor speaks volumes about how much info those filthy sumbitches are hiding and covering up. He must have info that will shut their program down if brought to light.

Damn Bell....reckon it will ever get this bad?

Sounds like it is and the sad thing is, it's just the tip of the iceberg it appears. How many arrests have there been?

I saw that there had been 22-25 reported sexual assaults/rape at Baylor in the past year.

12 of them were football related.

Sooooooooo using my superior math skills I am able to deduce that if you're raped at Baylor, there's a 50% chance it was done by a football player. That really improves the odds of catching the culprit.

Their handling of this is just bizarre. They demote Starr to Chancellor but a week later he's now just a professor at the law school. They initially reprimand but don't fire the AD and now he's resigned. More staff members were let go yesterday and possibly more to come. Good Lord, just bite the bullet and get it over with. Sounds like Grobe might have to put together a whole staff. They are going to wish they had just done the best they could to get a new full time coach now. By the time this is over they are going to have mass decommitments and transfers (restricted or not). If I was a player there I would probably leave now and sit out a year. Being part of the aftermath of the cluster f#$% is going to stain anyone involved. The innocent players should not be made to suffer for this.

Though it also seems like it improves the odds that everyone at the school and at Waco PD will lineup to make sure they don't get in trouble. Not that schools always have a great record for handling rape situations as it is.

I suppose they could have done worse than Grobe.

The Singletary situation is a little mysterious to me. I mean, I get that they might not be ready to rush into a permanent long-term replacement with a guy who doesn't have any college coaching experience, but we have one poster saying that the rumor is he wanted a permanent coaching position, and another saying that Singletary wasn't even contacted by Baylor about this (according to Singletary himself in an interview). How would Baylor know that's what he was going to demand if they didn't even contact him?

That said, Grobe always seemed to have Wake Forest hanging around in the ACC fight despite being Wake Forest being the team most likely for people to forget is actually a member of the ACC (now that their basketball team hasn't been doing anything for a while). He definitely was a "do more with less" coach. And right now Baylor almost certainly has better players than Wake did during his time there.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This x 10

I hope he doesn't get away with something like I've decided to pursue other interests. I hope he gets fired, disgraced, like Briles, and Mcgraw have. I want someone who is going down who knows Starr's involvement in this and says I'm not going to let that ***hole get off scott free. Maybe it will be the ad. I wish I had her link but I saw something about a law student from New Zealand who was raped, reported it to the police, and took her story to Starr himself. All he told her was that she had a great life story and then did nothing. So it's bull**** when Starr says he wasn't aware of this.

What's personal for me about this whole mess at Baylor is Ken Starr and I'm sure I don't have to explain why. And right when he's about to get found out in public, he praises a man who he tried to destroy, humiliate for something nowhere near as significant as what happened at his school on his watch. So he fires the fb coach, and then goes on OTL to put himself in a positive light. A textbook example of passing the buck.

My biggest hope is that the national media that KS despises digs even deeper than the PH report, and uncovers just how much he really did know and disgraced him. They're feelings towards KS are mutual.

What a weasel.

... it does seem like the kind of thing that a Sooner should at least wait for someone else to say, and then try to awkwardly join in on.
Ok maybe Briles doesn't make Switzer look like a saint but make no mistake about it, Briles is a dirty sumbitch who takes a backseat to no one in hiding/covering up rapes, steroids and who knows what else? It will come to light. Baylor enjoyed it to its fullest until they had to jump ship. And now they're headed back to the days of 4-6 wins a year and call it a success. They'll probably start trying to win halftime too just for bragging rights.

Actually it's to early to say that. It may be nothing worse than scholarship limitations, and no bowls for a year and they may not get that.

Whatever else at Baylor they've never had as much talent as they do now especially on offense. And I've been watching fb in Texas for a long time.

If this guy Jim Grobe can convince their incoming freshman to stay it will be huge. And he's only there for a year and if he can win at least 9 it might be good enough to attract a top asst coach for 2017.

Whether we want to admit or not the talent is there.

Briles made Baylor attractive and they did enough to seriously upgrade the facilities. It will be an attractive enough job to entice a top level assistant.

Look we know by what has transpired in the last week that more than likely the allegations of rape coverups/ hiding/interfering with victims , steroids, paying players are more than likely all true. This is a major development and I don't see them just getting a wrist slap but I could be wrong. And Baylor fans: you can't sell your soul to the devil 13 or so Saturday's in a row during the season and turn around and ask and expect forgiveness the following Sunday claiming "I was just funnin' around Lord"Even the Reverend Al Sharpton knows that and he only plays a Reverend on tv.

Agree. Chad Morris went to SMU for goodness sakes. Baylor can get a quality coach in there. Likely won't have the success of Briles, but they will at least stay out of the cellar.

First I've seen of any allegation of paying players.

I thought I had read that but J could be mistaken, it just hasn't come out yet. Ok Baylor fan, do you think your team went from cellar dweller to amassing quite a bit of talent just because the players wanted to come play for Briles at Baylor or do you think there were incentives laid out?

I've been suspicious the basketball team was paying $$$ since Drew showed up. Not sure about football. They've been doing most of their damage with 2-3 stars.

Then I stand corrected and maybe I was thinking of something I read alleged about the basketball program.

Early on no one even wanted the guys Baylor was rolling with. RGIII was a highly rated guy but no one wanted him at QB. All the rest Baylor was pretty much their best offer. They may have given them payments or other illegal benefits once they proved to be studs but I don't think they bought their commit.

Now some of the more high profile guys like Cannon or Seastrunk, that may be a different story.

At this point, I have no idea what to believe. But it is certainly plausible that (a) RG3 came to Waco because Briles was the only Power 5 coach to offer him as a QB, (b) very few of the original cast on offense were highly recruited, (c) Briles established a high flying offense with this lesser talent, that was attractive to recruits, and (d) all of the talent on the current team has seen the success of BU and Briles and wanted to be a part of it. But certainly no guarantees.
