Jimbo to LSU

One of O'Brien's biggest downfalls was when he and a player had a disagreement and didn't see eye to eye, he made it personal. Once a player crossed BOB it was only a matter of time until he moved on from that player. The two best examples of this are Hopkins and Clowney.
That’s why a HC shouldn’t be the GM. You gotta have that buffer.

Me too but tons of smoke out there. Also, Jimbo hasn’t come out and denied he’s going to LSU. He’s been asked the question and he kind of gives a vague answer saying that he’s happy at aggie.
Tie following sounds like a pretty strong denial in my book:

“I’ve told everybody I’m staying here and I’ve told everybody I plan on being the coach at A&M. And everybody thinks all coaches lie,” Fisher said. “We’re going to recruit an unbelievable class this year, OK? So I’m either the dumbest human on God’s earth who’s going to recruit all these guys to A&M so I can go [to LSU] and go play against them. If I did that, you ought to say, ‘That’s the dumbest human being and I don’t want him to be my coach.’ OK?”

That and he was lousy preparing after a bye and weekday games oh and also adjustments! I hated the guy.

BOB was imo just an average coach at PSU, but got a lot of credit for his management of the Paterno/Sandusky debacle. However, as a school with the tradition and prestige of a PSU, he was a lot like Tom Herman. Nice recruiting classes and good for 2nd to 5th in the conference, but left for the NFL once it became clear he wasn't overtaking OhioSt. At Houston, he was a terrible player manager (as noted above), and was carried by a singular stud QB in Watson. That Texans team (at one time) had a great roster. Top 5 QB in Watson, #1 WR (Hopkins), Multiple Top 5 defenders at their positions (Watts, Clowney, Mercilous, Mathieu, Joseph), yet now its just a smoldering husk.

Yea he finally came out with that after weeks of speculation and after losing to Ole Miss. He either turned down the offer, or LSU decided to move on from him and cross him off the list.

penn state just gave James Franklin a new 10 year deal. Somewhat surprising a lot of people in the know in college football thought he would leave.

Stewart is probably the best WR in the class but I'm not sure he is the right type of player we need right now. He opted out of his senior year for some reason, he seems like a me first guy that will bail at the first sign of trouble. We have a culture problem and Sark needs to make that top priority by getting guys that he can trust and count on and not just chase stars.
The Blue kid (running back) opted out of his entire senior year before it even started.

I know, although I think he was technically kicked off. I don't think he will help us either. That is why they are taking two RBs this year.

A report is out that Luke Fickell has decided to say at Cincinnati. Makes you wonder have some of these schools put such a short leash on their coaches that they’ve made an otherwise attractive job unattractive to some of these coaches.

I'm sure it has something to do with it, but salaries are going up just as fast as coaches are getting the hook now days. You won't have much job security but you will be paid well while you are there. Fair trade in my opinion.

Eh, but the fact that salaries are going up it I think is why Coaches are deciding they don’t need the stress of one of the bigger job when they aren’t gonna be given a chance to build anything there.

Luke Fickell for example make 3.4 million. That’s damn good money. Yeah LSU, USC, Florida could probably double that, but is that worth being fried 2-3 years later because you only won 9 games. I think coaches are starting to say no.

I would say double the salary is definitely worth the extra headache always IMO. But then again I love money.

I think most average people would agree because we are talking about large amounts of money that most of us would never see but when I’m already pulling down 4 million and my family is happy maybe money doesn’t speak to me as much

Apperently LSU basketball coach Will Wade, baseball coach Jay Johnson and several LSU recruits started following Lincoln Riley on Twitter today. Make of that what you will. Could mean nothing or could mean an earth shaking moment in college football is about to happen.

Lots and lots of smoke around Riley going to LSU. I’m thinking he’s the current front runner for the job.

I think what it comes down to is does Riley want to build OU for SEC play(they arent anymore ready than we are) or does he want to take over an established SEC team.

I think he’d have LSU competing for championships from day one.

Think Riley is a good recruiter, I don’t think he is a good game day coach.
I don’t think he’s ever had a top 5 class at OU? Hes a decent recruiter but obviously q great QB developer and offensive coach. Baker and Kyler weren’t heisman contenders until he coached them up.

Yeah Riley has made his money off the transfer QB. Getting Baker, Kyler and Hurts.

Sony Dykes going to TCU. Sounds like Miami OC Rhett Lashley will replace him at SMU

So what? LSU won a natty with a transfer qb. Ohio State did really well with Fields a transfer qb. Transfer players are a huge part of the game now. Basically the same as recruiting now.

I’m not knocking him for it. Those are the rules. Just saying the last couple years have shown that maybe those 3 guys were coving up some warts with Riley. Going from Hurts to his hand picked recruit in Rattler hasn’t exactly worked out.

10-1

“Going from Hurts to his hand picked recruit in Rattler hasn’t exactly worked out.”

I love how the knock against a coach is that he only has good transfer qbs. What does it matter where the qb came from as long as they’re winning. Do you think LSU cares that Burrow was a transfer qb and not there for 3 years??

In the long run your right it doesn’t make a difference, as winning is winning, but let’s not act like being able to bet a Jalen Hurts, a guy who has already started and played at a high level doesn’t give you a massive leg up over a program who has the 5 star freshman coming in. At the end of the day you both may get to the same place, but the guy with the transfer QB has a head start and less of a minefield to navigate. As Riley has found out with Rattler and a little bit with Williams. Developing a young QB and winning at the same time isn’t easy.

Ok so every program should just recruit 5* transfer qbs then lol? Riley got those qbs to transfer there. Not sure why that’s a knock against him.

And Baker and Kyler weren’t Heisman candidates before they got to OU. He deserves some credit for developing them.

Baker walked on to 2 programs. Riley should be given credit for identifying his talent for him to get the starting nod and further developing it.

Sounds like Billy Napier to Florida. He’s a good coach. Not sure it’s an upgrade over what they had though
