Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (This is personal...)

There are a lot that could be in the top 10. I just was never a big Bruce fan.
Don Rickles and especially Steve Martin belong on any top 10. Recency bias!

I will say that he may not be top 10 but the funniest comic tape i ever heard was riding in the car stoned with a friend of mine and he put in an Andrew Dice Clay comedy cassette somewhere around 1980. His bit about how gay men could be attracted to other men might be the hardest Ive ever laughed in my life. Just remembering still makes me laugh.

Robin's ability to improve is part of what made his stand-up so different and great. He merged the two better than anyone ever has.

Norm is better than Jerry in that I prefer watching his stand up to Jerry's. What is the funniest stand up bit of Jerry's career. I can't remember one.
I guess it takes all kinds. Jerry was the poster child for stand up for decades. They were both observational but Robin was too hyper for me. I liked Robin Williams much better in movies than his stand up. I have been fortunate to have seen both live.
I have seen a LOT of stand up. I saw Kevin Hart in a show on a cruise ship before he was known. Saw Kinneson, Dice, Jacky Mason (at the far end of his career but still funny), Jim Gaffigan, Brian Regan, Steve Harvey, George Lopez, Bernie Mack,Drew Carey, Jeff Foxworthy, Jay Leno, More but I can’t recall off the top of my head…

An evening at the comedy club with friends or a date was some of my funnest memories.

(Sell) I'm really concerned about his ability to maintain all of what he juggles for the long haul. It feels like the program lives in a sprint at all times and not so much of a marathon.
Are you saying he is fired within 5 years because he will ultimately fail by trying to juggle too much, or are you saying he jumps ship to the NFL within 5 years because he burns out here and is ready for less workload in the offseason?

I saw Seinfeld live in the early 90’s. His opening act Brian Reagan made me laugh a lot harder, although Seinfeld was good.

His run was the greatest of all time so I am not sure what you mean by that

You should look it up because it’s a gaping hole on your little list there

Find me any list that ranks him in a top 10. You have home work. I haven't seen it.

Bernie Mac ahead of Bill Hicks and Norm McDonald is a travesty, no even sure Bernie Mac belongs on such a list.
I find that to be crazy talk. Show me a set that either of those two did that ever got a crowd reacting the way the crowd at. the Bernie Mack show reacted.

we've got all kinds of idea for name. One just hasn't stuck yet.

I'd go with "Shit We've Heard" or "Probably Bullshit, But..."

  • Comedian list is a hell of an undertaking...it's hard to take a guy like Robin Williams off because of his cultural impact, but, he never made me laugh like a lot of others...good correction on Chris Rock

  • Great additions on the recruiting front...like having a new content piece coming every day

It's not recency bias with Martin. I love Martin., I don't think he remotely top 10 as a standup guy for me.

Robin Williams What Year Is It GIF

Ok. I really tried. Google Robin Williams steals jokes Joe Rogan. They did a segment on it. I think he was really talented and certainly not the first - but he is busted.
So, there are no links anywhere about this?

I'm worried about burnout over the long haul.

Robin Williams always made me laugh out loud.

Can't argue with the top 10 list. I would personally put Mitch Hedberg on the list. He is top 5 for me.

1. Carlin
2. Williams
3. Prior
4. Chapelle
5. Hedberg
6. Murphy (I could make an argument for him being anywhere from 2-6)
7 . Foxx
8. Burr
9 and 10 are the most difficult spots. There are some that have a single amazing show that would warrant consideration. There are others that produced at a high level for so long that they should be considered. If forced, I would put Martin and Rock here, but not with conviction.

How about a couple contemporary comedians? E.g., Taylor Tomlinson, who cracks me up bigtime. (Check out “Look at You” on Netflix.) And just yesterday I caught the work of young Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss for the first time—could not stop laughing. (See “Jigsaw,” also Netflix.)

🤘

There are a lot of really good young comedians right now. Tomlinson is funny but she can fall flat just as easily as she can kill it. Bargatze is someone that could ultimately end up very high on the all time list if he keeps going. Gillis has had a great start but who knows if he has staying power.

There are others that are steadily moving up the rankings, Kreischer, Segura, and Gaffigan are all awesome.

It is a good time to be a fan of stand up. The amount of access that we have to people he made uncovering gems really easy.

I’m not the list builder but here are a few - hell of you Google top comedians list he is on every one.

There are more if you want them. He’s also a Texan. The dude broke all sales records in the 70s and had the biggest comedy tour ever on “Wild and Crazy guy”. Then he decided to focus on movies.

Wait, I thought you said no one was bringing up Steve Martin.

Unfortunately the recent documentary he did on himself is not great. I mean I love the guys work but I found it a little boring. It does highlight his success and impact on the industry.

Martin is 11th, 9th and NR on those three lists. It's not a travesty to not have him in the top 10.

Not in top 10 discussions. You did find a link that had him at 9.

Most have him in the top 25-30.

No offense to Joe Rogan, but I don't pay attention to that meathead.
I don’t follow him or his politics but he is really plugged in with the comedy community over the last 3 decades. It isn’t just him and a couple of random dudes on his show. I was surprised at the amount of confirmation.
…… and I am not doing anymore homework today.
