Less than 48 hours until a new season of incompetence dawns

Texas in Lubbock today. They are playing hard on D and pretty good offense, thus far (not launching lazy 3s ad nauseam). Also, no reckless turnovers yet.

Okay, almost made it to the half. Two stupid impatient 3pt attempts and Texas gave up the lead. Still a good game-around 8 lead changes.

Texas is playing really well. If they can just hold out 5 minutes, we get the W. TX winning 55-51.

I agree with Fran this team is actually playing better without Simms, and the others who are out. Brock Cunningham giving some major minutes. Love this guy. Not the best player on the floor but he’s finding ways to contribute

Damn good win today. I also agree with Fran, but I have mixed emotions. Shaka is a better coach by default because of the injuries? What happens when these guys get healthy? Don't get me wrong, I love this quality win. I am wondering why after 5 years we are throwing up stupid-impatient 3pt shots and have more than D1 average turnovers in the whole 1st half of the season. That has nothing to do with injuries. As of late, Texas has played better defense and have been way more physical on offense. This is a good thing. I am wondering what has caused this. Did CDC speak to him, did one of Shaka's assistance begin coaching better or did Shaka himself get his enough is enough moment and taken control of a sloppy team or did he quit being a "player's coach" and start chewing. Who knows. If Texas continues this physicality, they will continue to win.

I don’t think Shaka is a better coach(as I said I never bought in to the idea he was a bad coach). I think not having Simms out there has made It less about finding ways to get the ball to Simms, and has just allowed Ramey, Jones and Coleman to take the game over and make plays.

I’m hoping Shaka will change the way he recruits and shy away from the elite big man recruits. They turn in to great players... just not in college.

That’s the hardest I’ve seen a Texas basketball team fight in a long time. WV has been awful on the road lately, but if you had told me we were going to go into Lubbock and beat Beard I wouldn’t have believed you.

Jones did his thing but the difference in this game was the toughness and tenacity of Hamm and Cunningham down the stretch. Brock was showing flashes of Dogus Balbay. He’s not gonna score in bunches but he gave Texas a number of extra possessions with smart defensive gambles and stingy defense and rebounding. Plus he hit threes.

The most shocking aspect of this win was that Smart out-dueled Beard down the stretch. Tech didn’t answer the press until the final minutes and couldn’t make Texas pay for chasing them off the 3 point line. Very surprising and not what we’re used to seeing from Smart in the 2nd half.

I’m not inclined to believe that this performance can be duplicated in March, but had you told me this team had a chance to sniff 20 wins I would have laughed in your face. Perhaps the injuries and forcing younger players to step up has lit a fire and resulted in a better mix but will be interesting to see how they finish.

On the fence about whether I want to see this team try to scrap down the stretch if it could result in another year with Shaka. Sucks to feel that way.

Are you saying Simms is an elite big man?
I was referring more to the bamba and Allen types more so than Simms. I’d keep going after the Hayes, Baker, Simms types who project at lest to be 2-3 year guys. Hayes developed quicker than anyone thought.

you might as well root for the team to win. Shaka is coming back. I think it was always going to take a disaster for Texas to write that 10 million dollar check. And there is no like real sure fire replacement. Maybe John Beline but that’s it for the sure things

Texas at ou tonight on espn2 8 est. By what I can tell, it is a pretty even matchup. Should be a good game.

Texas is really playing hard. They are moving the ball around plus there is a lot of movement that is creating some good opportunities.

The bad part so far is turnovers=TX 9 and ou 1. Also, Kai Jones has had two 3pt air balls.

I just can't figure out why Baker gets the go ahead to launch 3s. I think he is less than 10%

I was in Brazil once, fishing on the Amazon for Peacock bass. At one point, I saw this little monkey trying to mount a coconut. It appeared he was actually trying to get on top of it, and stick his little pecker in the top of the coconut. However, every time he would mount the coconut, the coconut would invariably roll out from under him and he'd fall off. I watched this exercise for about five minutes until the monkey finally gave up. At the time, I just laughed and laughed at the little, stupid, foolish monkey.

Watching this game tonight, I feel bad for that monkey.

It's funny were one of the worst 3 pointing shooting teams in the country and yet we win at the end on a 3 point shot. And on the road to.

Tonight not withstanding we’ve shot better in the last 5 games than the majority of the season.

Maybe all Texas needed was for me to stop paying any attention whatsoever during games. No quick peek on TV, no checking in every half-hour or so online — nothing.

Sorry it took me 25 games and two historic assbeatings to figure that out, y’all.

Gentlemen, I know many are weary of Shaka Ball and this team, but this has been a different team. They have been scrappy these last few games. They are driving the ball and not just shooting 3s. The offense is actually moving a lot and not just standing around. Andrew Jones looks to be getting a lot stronger and he has been very good. I absolutely love Freshman Brock Cunningham’s game. He has been our gritty guy that gets rebounds, create turnovers and makes his good selective open shots. Lunardi has Texas already in the NCAA Tourney and w may be the 3rd seed in B12 tourney.

My hope is that this hard playing continues and that it may inspire those on the bench or injured that this new way is working and it is the “new way” going forward. Even Fraschilla recanted his country club remarks after these last 5 games.

Great win last night. Horns are on a little roll and from what I see it stems mostly from Matt Coleman. Over the past 5 games, this kid has been playing the best ball of his career. The PG position is the most crucial position on the team and if you don't have quality play from the point position, the team will absolutely struggle. Over the past four games Coleman has played 136 minutes and has committed just 4 turnovers. Last night he played 36 minutes and didn't commit a single turnover. That is elite level PG play. Any coach will tell you that strong D and high level guard play will give you the best chance to win. Right now, the Texas D is ranked 18th overall in the country. If we keep this up, I would not want to face us in the tournament.

When you limit turnovers you limit the number of possessions by the opposing team. That also helps to cover up our poor shooting. If we're missing shots then at least the other team isn't getting extra possessions from our turnovers. Our Achilles heel is our lack of consistent outside shooting. Defenses will just sag off our shooters and force us to take long jumpers all night long. If we can develop any consistency in our outside shooting this team can do some damage. We just need to keep the ball in Coleman's hands and let him set up everybody. He's the best decision maker on the team.

Just tuned into the game and see we are down 20pts. osu winning 27-7 and barely half way through 1st half. Ugh. Still celebrating the ou win,

Well, at least we had a small respite from the at-will 3pt shot taking and turnover until today. Texas was 35% from the field and 17% from 3pt. OSU was 66% from the field and a whopping 61% from 3pt land. Texas was so lazy today. We choked in front of a crowd that went to show support for their short term success.

OSU waltzes into Austin with their 6-11 Big 12 record and lays an 81–59 beatdown on Texas.

Shaka should still be run the f*ck out of town. We’re 9–9 in conference in year f*cking five. Fourth consecutive year with a non-winning Big 12 record.

He has mildly overachieved only relative to his garbage performance during years two through four.
