Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, who was promoted to co-offensive coordinator this summer, returns all five starters from 2016, and eight total players from his unit saw at least one start a year ago (seven started more than one game).

it would be nice to have a QB that last more than half a season at UT.

Ricky Williams was a walk on....... so slow your roll.

I'd put him on the top tier if he wins a championship. Even without he is certainly one of the greats regardless.

From looking at all he brings to the table I have to say I don’t remember another qb that is/was as talented in all phases of the game as Mayfield in the last 30 years at least. His stats are ridiculous. Am I wrong here in my analysis? If so, please use stats/data not just “ uh I don’t like him”. No trolling/flaming please, real discussion.http://www.12up.com/posts/5819664-this-crazy-baker-mayfield-stat-might-be-the-greatest-of-them-all
Until he wins a championship, I put him in the same class as Colt. Very good QB's who won a lot of games. He is a few rungs down the ladder from the likes of Tebow, Leinart, VY, etc.

Mayfield has finished top 4 in Heisman voting the last 2 years so it’s not like this year was the first years he’s had a great year. Couple that with all of the skill players he lost last year and it makes what he’s been able to accomplish this year all the more impressive.

That dumbass wasn’t even supposed to play this year! The Big 12 made excuses to let him play cuz they weak

No, the league voted to not give him the year he had to sit out even though he was a walk-in. Then Bob Stoops reminded the league that OU had been carrying most of their asses since the Big 12’s inception. Then he told the league, “we’re going to have another vote, and this time you need to get it right”. The rest is Heisman history.

Mayfield is just another worthless POS like JM. Mayfield isn't qualified to even hold VY's jock strap.

OU has always had strong offensive lines. We'll see how Mayfield does behind lesser (relative to the defenses) lines in the pros.
BTW, The Heisman is tainted because Vince and Colt were not awarded the Heisman.

BTW Bell - you've convinced me this season that he is great. But do we have to keep up the "2 time walk on" charade? I get it - technically its correct. But he is not some Kurt Warner rags to riches story --- he had offers. Both times.

Before I school you, give me a chance to take some money off you first.

Yes, Heisman trophy winning running back Ricky Williams, was a walk on at Texas.

Now, how much money are you willing to wager that I'm wrong?
Trick question - baseball player!!!

The 30 for 30 story needs to have a 2 time walk-on rags to riches element to it.

I forgot about that

Ricky was drafted by the MLB---- the Texas Rangers I believe. Part of his contract was to cover his tuition to the university. Hence, at Texas he was a walk on and no scholarship was given to him.

So, as I said before, ricky Williams was a far better walk on than baker........

Here endith the lesson.
Point being Ricky not receiving a scholarship was not due to lack of talent, Mayfield had to fight and walk—on twice just to have a chance at finally becoming the best his position has seen in many decades, possibly forever. He’s got a lot of gritiness.

So we are moving the goal posts now?

You said "walk on" and now you're shifting your narrative because it turns out, Ricky was a walk on....................... is this how the conversation with native Americans went when they first met people from the Oklahoma territory????

No, if you want technicalities I said Mayfield was a 2 time walk-on

yep bell i'm a sooner as well just hear to troll the rumors and the complaints ;)but gotta say brother this is not the place to dig for baker nuggets. believe the miners in this tunnel would rather not have you find gold in their backyard and then go up and ask him how pretty it is. just sayin

The only thing vince was better at was running. He could run like the wind no doubt about it. But just look at his stats at texas to Baker at OU. Vince best year was 65.2% pass completion and didnt even average 62% for his career. Bm currently at 70% for his career. 44 td to 28 int! Weak. BM has 130td to 20 int, not even close. Even if you add young's 37 rushing touchdowns its not even close. That doesnt even get into yards per attempt, qb rating/efficiency, 3rd down percentage, qbr against the blitz. As a passer and decision maker, Mayfield blows him out of the water. More efficient, less mistakes a better qb. Even in his best year at texas, those passing numbers would be very very pedestrian for Mayfield. However, no doubt, young was a better athlete in his day, faster, bigger, and by light years was he a better runner. But considering how important throwing is to quarterbacks, he wasnt in the same atmosphere as a passer. maybe his lack of abilty in that dept helped lead to his failures at the next level. If he didnt win that natty he wouldnt be the legend he is now. Mayfield already is one and he's about to win a heisman and hey, has a decent chance at that natty.

Looks like he’s got the pose down. Definitely better form than Howard and better hair. Looks like he’s moving in for an impromptu nut grab.

Thank you Heisenberg for quoting stats. When you look at the whole picture, I’m really not sure who compares overall to Mayfield. Johnny Football has 1 Good year. Take away his skill players and he fell apart. Take away Mayfield’s and he has a great year again for the 3rd year in a row.
