Good block by the catcher and a bad slide by Cantu. I think all he touched was his foot. Cantu should have slid feet first and in between the catchers legs.
Cantu is awful, and is single handedly costing Texas this game. Am I the only one who doesn't get why he, Hamilton and Todd start every game? I know Texas has McCann, who is a much better catcher than Cantu, but surely we have other guys on the bench who are better at SS and LF than Hamilton and Todd. Both are automatic outs when they come up to bat.
As long as you slide, you can take out the catcher's legs. You cannot run him over.
Kody hasn't played at all this regional he usually DHs and Hamilton bat stinks but has range and a glove like no other. And McCann should be behind the plate at the moment.
Hamilton melted down several games ago on defense and couldn't catch or throw. He's good, but not great. I'd take my chances by giving him a game off and putting someone else in. I like Pierce, and I think he's going to do good things at Texas. Its going to take two or three recruiting classes to get his kind of players. I hope that he can recruit kids that can hit and have some size to them. It has been about a decade since Texas had a team that could hit consistently and with some pop.
You just can't take someone's glove out like that he is a reason why we have the most turned double plays in the nation. Now if we had a another glove like him at short and a better stick then yes you sit him. But that isn't the case right now. If i am not mistaken he made the all tourney team as well. We have pop haven't seen pop like this in awhile, they just killed themselves today.
Ended the season 39-24. Probably better than most of us thought they would. We knew the batting was going to be a problem AGAIN. It was a decent season. I think we all were hungry for one of the men's sports to thrive. I think our baseball team gave us a positive end to this school year's abysmal football and basketball results.
IMO, Pierce exceeded expectations this year. Give him two or three years to recruit his type of players and then let's see what we've got. I agree with clob, it has been painful to watch the last five to eight years of marginal at best offense from Texas. Hopefully Pierce will recruit some kids that can hit.
