Can someone please tell me what the racial undertones of the song are? Not the racial undertones of 1903 or life in 1903 or or common popular practice in 1903..... what are the rAcIaL UnDeRtOnEs of the song itself?

Hayden says the Longhorn band is the biggest organization that plays the song for the largest amount of people most frequently, and their voices need to be heard.

All the members of LHBlacks agreed they will not be performing "The Eyes of Texas" at all this fall and several other band members of various ethnicities are following their lead.

I still don't get it. One time, many years ago, a group of students did the minstrel show while singing, "The Eyes of Texas". Was it just this one time? And just now, critics are complaining? College students do silly, improper things all the time. But, the Eyes is being treated this way for a one time long ago student silliness? Come on now...people alive these days do not relate to the song that a handful did...long ago. So sad.

Ridiculous. If the meaning of the song were racist, that'd be one thing. Then I'd say it has to go, and I'd be ashamed for never noticing.

No, they're calling it racist not because of the lyrics, nor who wrote it and how they mistreated others or their connections to a racist organization or anything like that... but because of where it debuted. It debuted in an era and location where the entertainment was either racist, or has retroactively been termed racist.

Ridiculous.

What do you expect when we have indoctrination instead of education? Our Universities are no longer trying to give an education, they want to indoctrination us into socialism.

I watched a video of Austin protests, they interviewed a young girl, probably about 20 years old, she called herself a Marxist. She flat out said she was a communist.

I honestly had thought communism had ran it's course in 1990 when the soviet union fell. Evidently we let it grow here in our school systems and it needs to be rooted out.

I feel sorry for Austin, letting a buncha people change their city, ya need to recall the Mayor and city Council, I grew up there and now I( don't even recognize it..must have a buncha people in Austin who don't give a shit about having a good city..the worst part is Austins people done it their selves by voting in these People.....you reap what ya sow!

during the 60's UT had the second largest SDS chapter in the country, second only to Berkley. All those hippies stayed in Austin after graduation or dropping out. The jobs available in Austin in those days were Govt. City, county, State. They started electing themselves and you see the end result. In the late 70's the city desperately needed a new sewer treatment plant to handle the growing amount of waste that huge growth generated. build a new teaetment plant on the banks of the "pristine" Colorado?????Hell no...Voted down!!!

The result was that existing plants couldnt handle the waste....untreated sewage( raw shit I call it) started being dumped into the Colorado. The Feds stepped in and Austin was named one of the largest industrial poluters in the country. Since the city of Seguin gets its drinking water from the Colorado....well...

These same "environmental "wackos" also prevented/delayed highway expansion for years....

At my point in life, I most likely will not visit Austin or any other big city much again. I'm happy in smaller towns, country roads, and lakes where boaters can take part in a Trump parade without protest from antifa bums.

No one forces them to go to school here or join the band. If they have such a problem with a song that has no racial lyrics such as the original “ My Old Kentucky Home” then they should just GTFO because hundreds of thousands Texas high school kids that would be denied or have been denied admission th the University would gladly take their place!
