Hey guys, does anyone know anywhere in Austin to get cheap dental work done? I dont have dental insurance, so it would all be out of pocket... I have 4 different teeth, spread out, that are either totally shattered or nursing monster cracks..... damn tongue piercing when I was younger kinda wrecked some stuff and its coming back to bite me in the ass so to speak. I have to get all 4 ripped out and replaced.... and I already know that at least one will require surgical extraction due to the fact that when it broke, it broke off the top half of the tooth and just left a small section of the base and the roots in tact.... as you can imagine this makes fun stuff - like eating - a monster pain in the ass.... any help would be appreciated.

Sooooooooo LHsoldier.......

Ima go ahead and address the elephant in the room..........

And, no, I'm not judging you for your lifestyle choices---- we are all entitled to do what we want with whomever we like............. BUT, with that being said.......

How is it that you don't have dental insurance???

Just curious...

My current dentist and also a former dentist didnt accept dental insurances that I was interested in. Last crown/ root canal set me back $3200. Next time on something big, I'm going to consider being a practice dummy for a dental school or go to Mexico.

Yes, that would make you a dummy.

Why do you always seem to be an asshole and an antagonist on here? If you can't be respectful of others, then post less, or better yet, don't post at all.

Well, I can change my tone if you'd like, and that would be a reasonable request. However, on this particular subject I am an expert--I know exactly what I'm taking about, so all the other posters make me want to scream. If you'd like me to do everyone a public service on this topic, I would be happy to. But then it will turn into a political discussion, since politics is at the root of high dental fees and limited access to care. Or, Longhorn Soldier can give you his email, you can forward it to me, and I will hook him up. The rest of these blithering idiots? If one doesn't know what one is talking about, one should simply STFU.

Gum. Diplomacy. You should try it. ;)

My accountant and my wife each agree that it is neither necessary nor possible. But since you asked, I'll give it a shot. And don't forget about Longhorn Soldier--I am indeed an asshole, but a very generous one.

When the peanut gallery is finished bloviating, I will educate the entire thread on the facts of life. Keep It coming--I'm having a great time.

Dental schools...at least the ones in San Antonio charge about 1/3 what a dentist would charge for a crown...400 bucks ....and it takes about a month for them to make the crown,....and you might not be satisfied with it. I have had 3 crowns replaced in Progresso Mexico and they do very good work. However, that was 10 years ago. I dont remember the price but it was around 300 bucks a crown then.

That is all personal experience, so I am sure it is not as factual as what Top Gum says he will tell you, and since he so highly recomended his own advice, I would listen to him......good luck.

It's certainly what I've seen at Castle Dental, and dentists prior to that.

The last Castle Dental I dealt with has dollar signs in their eyes, IMO. They urged a bunch of "urgent" work, years ago. My teeth have been fine, since (except something they caused). Zero generosity when I've been out of work. My cell phone company is more understanding!

The only time they've changed their tune is when their hygienist did something potentially actionable. She pulled out part of my tooth, thinking it was plaque. Suddenly had sensitivity, due to the missing bit.

They were nice and friendly, until I said I wasn't going to sue. Suddenly, it's the same old treatment. Broken promises.

A different Castle Dental was hours late for an appointment once, and had a few patients slip in the line ahead of me, while they forgot I was waiting for my appointment. Very unprofessional.

The wife and kids like them, though, and they're on the plan.

But if you're different, TopGum, I hope you've contacted LS to help out.

You've let your teeth deteriorate over the years and now you want an instant solution? I offered to send you in the right direction and you're getting huffy.

No, you sat here and mocked others in this thread while saying you know things and will educate everyone..... I asked for help and you are acting like a douchetard.... either you can help or not.... NOBODY gives a damn if you know more on this than anyone else..... if this is what I have to go through to get help from you then I dont want it..... you seem to be more concerned with showing off what you know instead of helping anyway.

And my personal choices and waiting had more to do with hating the dentist than anything else... and what difference does it make what I have done in my past in regards to this? it doesnt change the fact that I simply asked for help and you have done nothing but shit talk everyone on here and insult other posters that have at LEAST given me some sort of direction regardless of if I take it...

So when you fall off that high white horse you seem to be riding on, maybe you can actually do something useful here and stop being such a smug douchetard asshole......and actually HELP. If you dont want to help, then kindly move on to another thread. but stop with your personal pissing contest on my thread, k?

There's a dentist in Granger, Tx. (about 40 miles northeast of Austin) thats real reasonable, thats who i use. He's a big Longhorn fan, both his sons went to UT. Give him a call, he might could help you, except for the tooth thats going to have to be surgically removed. Dr. William Pavlet, 512-859-2424. He's the most reasonable dentist ive been able to find. Hope he can help, theres nothing worse than a damn toothache

I asked LonghornMM to give me your email address and forward it to me so I could help you out pro bono through friends in the industry. But the above is what I received in return, so that deal is off. Instead, I am going to come up with a list of places and resources where folks can go for care whatever their station in life is. If the misinformed misanthropes on this thread want to continue to retort with bile and hurl invectives at me, that's fine. By any measure of human endeavor I am their superior. I will have this invaluable information out within a day or so that all can benefit from my wisdom accumulated over forty years.

P.S. - it's not your thread

Bravo, Mister Moses! You did a very nice job. Many of the places on the link you provided are places that I would have recommended. So, you've done a lot of the work for me. All that's left is to give names of folks in the trade that I personally know and would recommend based on first hand knowledge and reputation in the dental community, not worthless anecdotal information like that which has been presented so far in this thread, which is personally owned by Longhorn (not really a) Soldier.
