Is Dailyn Swain 512 bound?
Xavier forward Dailyn Swain is currently on his official visit with Texas and will be on the Forty Acres tomorrow, April 1, as well. Earlier today, I highlighted how a player like Swain would impact Texas in year one of the Sean Miller era in our Portal Rankings, showcasing exactly what he would bring to the Longhorns if he chooses Texas.

As the race for the sophomore forward heats up, it’s clear that the competition is tight, with several teams in the mix for Swain. Texas, Ohio State, Kentucky, Auburn, and Arkansas have all shown interest in the former Musketeer. With Ryan Conwell visiting Austin tomorrow as well, it’s safe to say that Texas is set for one of its biggest offseason days since hiring Miller. Overall, I believe Texas is in a strong position to land Swain due to Miller's ties with him from their time at Xavier. However, schools like Kentucky and Arkansas are also making a strong push and should not be overlooked in this race.

Well would you look at that:
On a late Sunday night, Chendall Weaver shared a wholesome picture on his Instagram story with new Texas head coach Sean Miller and Texas GM of Basketball Chris Ogden. It appeared that the junior guard had met with the Longhorn basketball front office, likely discussing the possibility of returning to Texas for another year.

Having Weaver back would be huge for Texas. Not only is he a high-motor player that every coach would love to have on their roster, but he also fits Miller’s system perfectly. His experience would make him an invaluable veteran leader in year one of the new era.

Check this box off:
To kick off the day, Jon Rothstein reported that Miller will be retaining Chris Ogden as the GM of basketball and bringing three assistants from Xavier to Texas: Adam Cohen, David Miller, and Ryan Anderson.

With Miller now having his staff in place for his first year at Texas, the focus will almost certainly shift to securing talent in the portal. With visits from Swain and Conwell, as well as being in the top five for Nick Davidson, Texas is in an excellent position for many of its top portal targets. Now, the Longhorns can focus on utilizing the resources provided by CDC and Chris Ogden to build the best roster possible.

Has the flame died out?
The first player Texas reached out to in this year’s portal window was James Madison guard Bryce Lindsay, who averaged 13.4 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 2.2 APG this past season. However, it appears Lindsay is exploring other options, as the redshirt freshman recently concluded a Zoom meeting with Mississippi State and has another call scheduled with SMU.

In my opinion, this isn’t as big of a loss for Texas, considering Lindsay wasn’t necessarily a must-have for Miller’s system from a schematic standpoint. While he can light up the scoreboard on any given day, his defense was my biggest concern had he joined Texas. I'm not saying he can’t improve in that area, but it’s a weakness that Texas would’ve had to address heading into the season. Still, Lindsay is a phenomenal scorer for someone so young in college, and I expect him to put up impressive numbers wherever he decides to go.

Virtual recruitment:
Texas has shown interest in San Francisco guard Tyrone Riley IV by having a zoom call on Sunday. Riley averaged 9.6 PPG, and 6.0 RPG last season for San Francisco as a Freshman and has also had a zoom call with Creighton, and Arizona.

Riley is a project player who could bloom into a serious contributor to whichever school he selects. He does fit Texas’ scheme and is a solid two-way scorer who can finish through contact inside the paint. Overall, it’s still early in his recruitment to say rather or not Riley is leaning heavily one way or another but the interest shown from Texas makes him a name worth monitoring.
