Positives to take from this game

Man I know Mayfield has been around for 5 or six years but how the hell did ou get Gronk on the field for this game. I'm telling you I heard the TEXAS secondary yelling "NUMBER 81 IS A TE SO HE IS INELIGIBLE TO CATCH THE BALL" no not really but it sure seemed that way when he was wide open in the middle of the field.

He didn't break this tackle

Hey those cops obviously didn't play football at Texas.

That kid is pretty good...Mayfield is a stud....but how about Bryce Love at Stanford? He's putting up insane numbers....
Best player in the country...... plays in happy valley. His start stop, strength, speed, size, balance, vertical, hands, mind, flexibility etc etc will kill it at the combine. He will test off the charts. And we all know that the NFL loves them some statistical analysis.

Why did this thread turn into a Mayfield one?

I don't know what our defense needs to do against OSU. I mean what should we do to slow down Washington and Ateman (sic?). I don't think Mason Rudolph is the kind of scrambler that Mayfield is. You know until he froze on that game winning pass Brandon Jones was playing great. I mentioned how well I thought our defense played In the second half.In short if our defense takes our level of play to take next step from that second half I think we have a chance.

I don't know what to expect from our run game. If Sam continues to raise his game what will that do for the run game? What can we do with our receiving? Can we hit a home run say 50÷ td 's. We havent had much of that so far.

Or will go with ball control? That's what TCU did against OSU last month.

We should be able to run the football on Okie lite.

Problem is, if we are down 21-0 then we won't be running the rock.

For me it was the tackling especially in the second half. After about 7 years of being out of position, failure to wrap up, I saw the Texas Longhorns play defense the way the Texas Longhorns are supposed to play defense.

Before we finally scored we were behind 20/0. They had almost 300 yards of offense. We only had a few first downs. I admit I was starting to think is it going to be another 63/14? On their first possession of the second half they moved the ball downfield but we held them to a field goal. But our defense was starting to raise their game. Although we gave up the winning td I came away thinking we are building a real Texas Longhorns defense. It's been a long time coming.

The punting i can see why Michael Dickson was a third team AA last year. Now that i think about it both punters played great. It wouldn't surprise me if both Dickson and Siebert were first and second team AA at the punter position Dickson being first team of course. With the exception of field goal kicking we are solid at special teams. Blocking fgs, running back punts, and field position we are solid everywhere else.

Sam Ehlinger was a real man out there today. Besides throwing the ball for 278 yards he was our leading rusher. He carried the ball 22 times four over 110 yards. OK was geared to stop Warren, Porter, and Carter, so Sam took matters into his own hands. And no fumbles, no interceptions. So far as a true freshman he's lost two very close games to a couple of teams that are legitimate playoff contenders. And we have a game coming up against another playoff contender this Saturday, OSU and another in three weeks, TCU.

And as far as negatives go the biggest question is the ol and the running game. Needless to say the two go hand in hand. We have a good ol but most of them are hurt and some of them are out for the season. To the best of my memory the only ones that have started every game are Shackelford and Vahe. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know how to spell his name but isn't number 68 a true freshman? They started out good but wore out in the end when all the penalties started. We need for this bunch to jell and like pronto. OSU and TCU are coming up soon. I believe in Tom Herman

My .02 worth

My

Yep, these UT moral victories are nice.

I agree but I also think this is his style of ball. He's aggressive and we're going to have to get use to it.

4th and 8 is stupid especially considering the kicker has made a kick in that range. He has been decent.... 4th and 8 is really silly.

CW3 is a TE, Sam is a badass, the OL depth is fubar, the play calling is beyond confusing, they seem to be playing guys to keep them happy, Wheeler struggled/big time, secondary torched by wide open receivers on multiple occasion including game winner... Lots of work to do and I honestly think OSU is a better team. Ooops, play them on Saturday at 11 am.

Our 4th down conversion rate has been god awful, but our kicker hasn't been decent by any stretch of the word.

He's 5/9 on field goals and 25/25 on XP made.

Is that decent? Look at his misses. I guess it's great we haven't had any XPs blocked this year, but his FG is far from decent. I don't think it being a coin flip should be considered decent. Granted our 4th down conversion rate is much worse.

No that's horrible I was just putting the stats up.

Got it I thought you were debating he was decent. I don't have much of a problem with a 4th in short go for it, but 4th in 8 is really pushing it. But then again people need to quit thinking of that as leaving points on the field because 3 pts is far from automatic.

I don't know if Baker is the best player in the country in college but he's def in the conversation. The thing for me is that he's not a big guy but he still has a cannon. Everytime he launches a long pass my jaw drops because of the velocity on the ball. It's really amazing.

Most guys that have been in college for 10 years can zing the ball pretty good ;)

Still a lot to play for. Upset Ok state which if the USC/OU games are any indication isn’t out of the realm of possibility they hav3 a shot of playing in the conference title game. The conference is pretty deep. Think there may be a few more upsets along the way.
