potential replacements

Never liked Briles & REEEEEEALLY don't like him now. His looking the other way at Baylor is just 1 step below Joe Paterno at Penn State in my opinion. So to me it wouldn't matter what kind of badassery he could possibly bring. He's always been a prick but now we know he's also a douche.
Briles cannot be a Texas coach. He allowed rape!

Never gonna happen but I would love to see Paul Johnson. I ran the wishbone in high school and One of the guys I coached under was a GA for coach Royal. I love me some option football and it would be a nice to see some triple option football on the 40 again.

Funny story--- when we had james, ricky, priest and shon Mitchell back in 95/96 we begged Mackoprick to install the option. Freaking begged him.

Could you imagine how sick we'd have been running it back then?

That's when Mackoprick tells us in a team meeting, and I quote-------

"Fellas, how many times did nebraska play on TV last year? 3, maybe 4 times? People don't want to watch that sort of offense. They want to see an offense like ours. An offense, that when it's executed properly, will blossom like a flower......".

I swear to God on the lives of my nephews, that man said those words.

So what if we take a hit in recruiting year one. That's to be expected with any new coaching hire. But kids will know that he's a winner.....he has a ring. They'll look at little bro and his success at michigan and think "damn, this dude at Texas BEAT that dude at michigan in the superbowl...".

Year one won't be awesome recruiting, but years 2-10 would be insane.

At $10M a year he must win immediately. That is the standard that we have set.

Blossom like a flower should never be uttered in a football locker/meeting room. Sounds like Penn State & Sandusky.

Do you see your name on the following website?

I don't think anyone really thinks Texas is racist. I'm sure some will say that but no one serious. Now look I do think among the boosters the fact that Charlie wasn't one of "their guys" was a factor in to why they were never really on board. Race is probably a factor in that.

If Franklin can win at Vandy and bring Penn state back I'm sure he'd do fine at Texas.

I don't think anyone is really saying UT is racist, per se (it doesn't help being in the state of TX), but I think a lot will depend on the next coach. I recall with ND when they fired Willingham people were suspicious then they gave Weiss almost twice as much time with worse results. That's what sunk ND's reputation (in part). Same will be with UT if they do the same.

So now expecting to beat Kansas the worst team in any P5 conference and maybe any conference, in the 3rd year is immediate? No one expected a Big 12 Champ this year.....we expected to beat Kansas though.....Texas is better this year because the losses are closer I suppose.......but losing to Kansas? Now the Strong lovers feel he did not get a fair shake? No.

If Nick Saban goes 6-7, 5-7, and then loses to one of the worst teams in college football three years from now and at best goes 7-6 that same year he would be fired at Alabama AFTER bringing them what he has. It is unacceptable anywhere not just Texas. Don't believe me? Look at LSU.

The blowout losses, all of the "worsts" his time at Texas has brought, the pathetic offenses, pathetic defenses, and pathetic special teams play that we have seen the last 3 years is why Strong should be fired.......

Does the next coach get a reasonable amount of time to turn it around or do you feel like the BMD and people in charge will start to lose patience if it's not a reasonable turn around next year?

Also, what do you think is a reasonable result for 2017?

not sure who you are asking but I will answer some of it.....The next coach should get these players and be better from day one. No blowout losses. No "worsts". No 3 blocked PAT's and FG's in one game. No calling TO's at the WORST time. Next year the only teams that Texas will play that has the same or better talent is USC as far as I can tell....Maybe ou.

The biggest thing the new coach needs to do is get better every week and be better at the end of the year than the beginning. I would think that Texas should have a coach that can do that.

I think a good start would be a winning record at this point.

Strong had a reasonable amount of time. He came in in on January 5th 2014. He will have had 3 full seasons. He has had 3 full recruit classes , 2 of his completely that were top 20. He stole talent from atm and other schools so there is no problem with talent. He has gone through how many assistants ???? 9 ??? He is 16 -20 overall - 12-14 in conference play and best place is 4th in conference for him. Embarrassed by Arkansas in a bowl. Lost to a 1-9 Kansas. Gave up record of home wins in a row to OSU. How many records has his teams gave away in the last 3 years ? Nebraska will pass us in all time wins this year. Hmm......yea, He has had enough time...frankly, he got one more year than I wanted to give him.

Other third year coaches in Washington (Peterson) and Michigan (Harbaugh) are both eyeing the playoffs this year. Some context.

Harbaugh is not a 3rd year coach and he inherited a program with a top 5 defense and that already ran a pro-style offense. Hoke just was not a good HC. Washington was an 8 win team from Sarkesian with good talent, Peterson just changed the offense and defense schemes.

This has nothing to do with supporting Strong. I did that because, he's the coach and I wanted him to do well. Of couse, I don't blame Coach Strong for our Heisman candidate RB and true Freshman QB putting the ball on the carpet 6 times.

The point is that you guys were on Strong like a rabid dog on a neck bone from the day he got here. Everytime someone made a mistake it was all his fault. One can only assume that a coach making twice as much as he was, would have a shorter leash. Based on the behavior of some of you, I would expect nothing less.

So none of this was his fault? Why do you believe that next year will be any different if he stays? The players do not perform on the field for him and that is a fact.

UT was stuck on hiring a black HC because of Bev Kerney. They could not get Shaw, they should have taken James Franklin. He was great at Vandy and now is turning Penn State around.

Or Strong had impeccable credentials and deserved the job over Franklin who was still largely unproven. In hindsight, Franklin may be the better coach, but at the time Strong was clearly the better candidate. Don't diminish his qualifications and the University's choice by saying they were "stuck on hiring a black HC."

this is your third thread throwing franklin around.....why are you still even here ?????

He's better qualified than Herman and has proven it at power 5 schools.
so what ? Even more proof to fire Strong. He is 7-6 7-6 9-2....exactly the pace strong should be on. So , we missed out on him plus many , many more coaches. So keep trolling...we all know what you are doing.

Did I say that none of it was his fault? I guess I'm the only person on this board that think players need experience in order to get better.

So we are supposed to go steal him from PSU? Lots of people are more qualified than Herman lots of people aren't coming here either.

Experience - game 11 out of 12....they lose to 1-9 Kansas....they got worse with Strong coaching them. They do not need anymore of Strongs experience. :)

I don't know what you guys want. Charlie Strong is getting fired. You guys got what you have been begging for the last 3 years. This thread is about potential replacements. Of course, no one available is good enough in your eyes to be the coach at Texas and the guys that you think are good enough aren't available.
