question about Rockets cap space

so i calculated that if the cap is at 67-68 million next year, the rockets would have about 15 million free if we don't resign anyone thats contract is up, trade jones for picks, and decline kostas' option, as well as lose brewer to FA. this is a reasonable assumption. anyway we would then need to shed more space for another max (aldridge). Would it be possible to have howard restructure his contract? also would Smith qualify for the Mid level exception meaning we could sign him to around 5 million a year after signing LMA to a max? obviously this is a "pipe dream" but naturally as sports fans we will try to find the brightest scenarios.
