If we land Quinn that should get the ball rolling on recruiting. I have a feeling we are going to end up with a top 5 class if this is the case. Caleb Burton is possibly a name to look out for. Him and Quinn are pretty tight from what I have heard.Saw this post on Twitter. Take it for what it’s worth. I hope it’s true

It was interesting to see that Ewers may also get Stewart to flip from Aggy. Can you imagine the Aggie meltdown if that actually happened? That would be so delicious! If we land Quinn that should get the ball rolling on recruiting. I have a feeling we are going to end up with a top 5 class if this is the case. I imagine there is language in these NIL deals to prevent thisThis has disaster all over it. If he chooses TT over us we are a laughing stock. If he chooses us.....well.....thats a whole new set of potential bad... We pay a kid $3 million to play here....We put $3mill in his bank account. He owns it....
How are you going to coach a kid like that?.....I can see it now...
* coach, I aint gonna run no damned stairs.
*coach, I am working on my tan today, so practice without me...
* coach, I am gonna have you fired...
* coach, I will travel to out of town games by private jet...
* coach, I am gonna give side line interviews during the game so I dont have time for a damned huddle.
proof positive that I have lived too damned long so that I have to see this crap.

College sports has been about who has the deepest pockets and who can reel in the best players. There is a reason the Bama’s, Texas, UGA, Notre Dame’s have the best recruiting classes every year. There is a reason the Brian Kelly’s and Urban Meyers don’t stay at the Cincinnati’s and Utah’s of the world. Because the big guys come calling with a pile of money. The only difference that NIL has brought is that the players are getting some of the money instead of it all going to the coachesAll valid points. This NIL is going to ruin college sports. It's going to come down to who has the deepest pockets and the most resources to reel in the best talent. CFB has essentially become a free agent football organization where the richest schools will dominate.
You did it again. And "expectation"?? Where has that gotten you over the last 10 years? For that matter, OU has two 5 star QB's on their roster, and they didn't play in an "important" game last week. That maybe so, but doesn’t make it any less true. You don’t play in important games at Texas Tech. That’s not knocking Tech just the way it is. Mike leach had ONE 10 win season and he often gets credit(rightfully so) for doing a great job whereas Texas, OU, Bama, etc 10 wins is the expectation rather than the anomaly
Good points I had no idea this NIL has already gotten this out of control. $3mil. for a player? You did it again. And "expectation"?? Where has that gotten you over the last 10 years? For that matter, OU has two 5 star QB's on their roster, and they didn't play in an "important" game last week.
Regardless - Ewers will be an interesting test case. No doubt he's got 5 star talent. But how are all of those millions going to create a cohesive locker room? You think the unpaid/low paid linemen are going to be bop along without any jealousy? That's not aimed at Ewers - that's at the new landscape. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
So you don’t agree that some of the top programs have different expectations than some of the middle tier programsYou did it again. And "expectation"?? Schools have been paying players for years without us knowing. It's just out in the open and legal now. And just like any contract there is verbage in there i'm sure that voids the contract if said player doesn't fulfill his duties. It's not as big of a deal as you old farts make it out to be.This has disaster all over it. If he chooses TT over us we are a laughing stock. This is correct. This isn’t a one sided contract. I’m sure there are standards that the players must live up to.Schools have been paying players for years without us knowing. Yes, this has already been the case for many years. Now it is out in the open an legal.Isn't this what we see now anyway? Teams with the deepest pockets and most resources reel in the best talent?
I am sure the NIL contract will protect the University/donors. Very smart people will be writing these contracts and will be protecting their interest/money. Standards will have to be met or they will not receive their money. I would not expect the money to be up front. There will be something to hold over their heads. Is there a belief that just because a kid gets paid they don't have to follow team rules???
Do NFL players take private jets and I don't know about it?
Expectations? NO. Even little old Baylor starts every year thinking we have a chance for the Final 4. After winning the Big 12 last week on one of the great finishes in college football history - check out the message boards - everyone is p*ssed that we didn't get in the Final 4. The expectations are everywhere. So you don’t agree that some of the top programs have different expectations than some of the middle tier programs
No one cares about Baylor. Congrats on the B12 title though, it was a great accomplishment.Expectations? NO. Even little old Baylor starts every year thinking we have a chance for the Final 4. You're nuts if you don't think everyone has the same expectations. Whether that is rational or not is a different question. If you think every program has the same expectations(or that they should) I don’t know how to help you
I will accept this as a compliment and wish you a Merry Christmas! No one cares about Baylor. Congrats on the B12 title though, it was a great accomplishment.
Patrick Mahomes? If he goes to Tech he’s not serious about playing big time college football, and Texas should just move on, and not sweat it
Baker Mayfield albeit he had to move on from TTech.Patrick Mahomes?
Even if HE's willing to work hard, you've set the standard that next year's 5 stars will be expecting, and we already know that even without the distraction of millions of dollars, many kids can't. Plus, if the coaches thought the pressure to win was high at Texas before, just wait till the boosters are being asked to write $20M/yr in NIL deals, on top of their $100m/yr in Athletic Dept. donations. This has disaster all over it. Patrick Mahomes wasn’t a 5 star stud out of high schoolPatrick Mahomes?
Yea, but when the offense consistently scores 50 and the team still loses, its hard to blame the QB.Patrick Mahomes wasn’t a 5 star stud out of high school
and as amazing ad he was his teams weren’t very good
Exactly. Another upshot to NIL is that borderline NFL prospects are now more likely to stay in school and strengthen their draft stock. Case in point - Keondre Coburn, Overshown, Jamison have all decided to return for their final season of eligibility. They realize they can make comparable NIL income rather than as a later round draft selection. All valid points. This NIL is going to ruin college sports. The need for college players to have a strong support system (not a bunch of homeys that are leaches) has never been greater. They need someone with a legal/financial background to help them navigate through all of the options in the NIL world. Q Ewers has that access to advisors. I feel for the vast majority that don’t.Exactly. Another upshot to NIL is that borderline NFL prospects are now more likely to stay in school and strengthen their draft stock. It’s important to understand that the NIL deals don’t come from the University. The schools have zero control over how much money a player receives via NIL. The NIL deals come through independent 3rd party entities. Those entities assume all the risk on the deals they make. Of course, they will coordinate with the coaches during the recruiting process to try and attract and retain the top recruits. However, Sark and the rest of the coaching staff are under no obligation to fulfill any agreements related to NIL.I am sure the NIL contract will protect the University/donors. But my point is if you want to play in big time moments and big time games tech isn’t where you go, for the reason you point out. Programs like tech very often don’t put together complete teams. It’s solely on you and most times it isn’t gonna be enoughYea, but when the offense consistently scores 50 and the team still loses, its hard to blame the QB.
Well you don’t exactly come to Texas and expect to play in big time games either. Well at least the last 12 years you don’t. Texas Tech has produced as many NFL QBs this last century as Texas has. Plenty of all time great QBs came from smaller schools who never won much. I could name a bunch but surely you get the point. But my point is if you want to play in big time moments and big time games tech isn’t where you go, for the reason you point out.
