24/7 reporting Texas is the "overwhelming favorite" to land OL
Patrick Hudson assuming he's released from his LOI.
Per
OrangeBloods, UT is "the top choice by a wide margin" for RB
Kameron Martin if he's released from his LOI. The coaches' level of interest in Martin is still unknown.
Scout reporting former Baylor commitment, WR
Hezekiah Jones of Stafford, plans to visit UT this summer.

War room:
The big story this week that has held everyone's interest isn't necessarily what's going on around the Forty Acres, it's more about the ongoing fallout from the
Baylor issues.
Of course, that fallout could very well spill over and have a very direct impact on Texas, should some of the Baylor 2016 signees (or not signee as is the case with Devin Duvernay) decide to become Longhorns.
Here's some of the more interesting notes I heard this week ...
A total of seven players are looking to get out of their Baylor letters of intent. A good number of them have indicated behind the scenes that they have a strong interest in Texas. As for the Longhorns' stance in this, it's a fairly slow process. Texas cannot have any contact with the players until they have been officially released from their letters of intent, either by Baylor or by the NLI Policy and Review Committee. If/when either of those things happen, Texas should be a major player for several of the top Baylor recruits, but nothing can happen right now.
Except in the case of
Devin Duvernay. The family of the standout WR from Sachse went to the NLI website to file an online appeal, and couldn't find any record of Devin's information.
Donovan, his twin brother, was in there. Devin was not. As it turns out, Baylor somehow messed up and didn't file Devin's Letter of Intent paperwork, meaning he's currently on the open market.
--- From what I'm hearing through the grapevine,
Texas could find room for two or three additional players, with four players being a possibility if the numbers were able to work out.
--- I spoke with a source close to
Patrick Hudson again on Wednesday night. Not much has changed, but it's still good news for Texas.
"Texas is still where he's leaning," the person said.
Hudson has not talked with the UT staff due to the NCAA rules of contact, but this one looks like it will fall UT's way if he is given his release.
The person I spoke with said Hudson and his family have had zero contact with anyone at Baylor since Art Briles was fired. Those in the Bears' athletics offices aren't exactly going out of their way to do the players any favors.
--- Expect Texas to recruit
Devin Duvernay aggressively now that he is fair game.
In talking to someone with knowledge of Devin and Donovan's situation, it sounds like the two will almost certainly go to the same school, as was their plan during the recruiting process. The idea of Texas possibly getting Devin without taking Donovan isn't going to happen.
That begs the obvious question ... would Texas target Donovon if he gets released?
Call it an educated guess, but I believe the Longhorns would in fact pursue both brothers if the numbers are there.
Of note, TCU did offer both Devin and Donovan during the recruiting process. Texas did not, but if the numbers work out, as expected, that would likely change this time around.
Devin could theoretically make a decision on his college destination tonight if he wanted to, but he is expected to wait until his brother hears word on his release before diving back into the recruiting process.
The Duvernays (and most of the others looking to be released) will likely stay close to home.
Texas and TCU will likely battle it out for Devin and Donovon if Donovan is released. This one's too close to call with any real confidence.
--- RB
Kameron Martin is another name worth watching. In talking to someone with knowledge of Martin's situation, he'd love nothing more than to enroll at Texas if he is freed from his LOI. Again, schools cannot have any contact with Martin until he receives his release, but my guess is that the Longhorns would have an interest in the Port Arthur Memorial speedster.
Martin could very well look at other schools in addition to Texas, but from what I'm hearing,
the Longhorns are his top choice by a wide margin.
--- Again, it all comes down to numbers and whether or not the players get released, but another name worth following is that of offensive lineman
J.P. Urquidez. I would very much expect the Longhorns to be in the picture for the Copperas Cove product, should his request for his release be granted.
--- So how would the numbers work if numerous players eventually wanted to flip to Texas? Hudson's a no-brainer but from what I've gathered, it could basically come down to which guys are released first and were ready to make the move. Basically, things are very much up in the air.
--- Most of the Baylor signees communicate regularly and are on a group text message chain. A quote from one of the signees ...
"A lot of us could wind up at Texas. I think Texas wants a lot of us (Martin, Hudson, Devin Duvernay, Donovan Duvernay, Urquidez, Parrish Cobb)." (Suchomel)

If there was a big winner this week in Texas athletics, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone more deserving of a gold star than athletic director
Mike Perrin.
Known as the ultimate people person and the perfect person to clean up former AD Steve Patterson's people person problem, Perrin did more than shake hands, slap backs and tell stories this week... he was a true athletic director in every sense of the position.
First, he handled the Augie Garrido situation as cleanly as the situation would allow for, eliminating any concerns that that the final days of the Garrido era would be bloody. Instead, he handled his business in a way that would have been quite handy 30 months ago.
"We didn't know it at the time, but he's the guy that we should have sent in to deal with Mack," one source said this week. "He has a way of defusing combustible situations and he proved that this week. There are a lot of ways to lead and his way might not be like DeLoss' (Dodds) or Steve Patterson, but his way is effective. We needed him to get this done and he never backed off from a difficult task."
Days later, Perrin stood in front of assorted media at the Big 12 president/athletic directors meetings in Dallas and strongly delivered UT's positions on a number of matters, revealing that the Longhorn Network and expansion are not matters that the school will budge on easily.
For the first time in his tenure as athletic director, Perrin truly looked like a complete athletic director and not just a guy playing the role until a better option can be vetted and hired.
"He had a good week, didn't he?" one source told me on Thursday night. "We have a lot of confidence in Mike and now the public can really see why. We couldn't have asked for him to perform his duties any better."

Nacogdoches DB
Josh Thompson is "probably" coming to UT's mini-camp on Sunday. If he makes it in, he'll be a guy to watch for a possible offer.
Key quote:"After the ETSN combine, I got defensive MVP. Coach (Jeff) Traylor texted me great job, told me to keep Texas on my mind and I'd been hitting their radar lately," Thompson said. "Also coach Jennings came by for spring practice and said later that something good might be coming for me.
"He (Jennings) wants me to come camp, but said he's seen everything. He just wanted to see me at the camp and then go from there."
If Texas offers:Thompson said the Longhorns would "definitely be at the top" but then clarified that Texas would be bunched up with several other schools.
The 6-0, 183-pounder doesn't have a list of favorites yet, but said he'll put out a top 7 or top 10 this weekend, after he gets a chance to talk to his coach.
The Brandon Jones influence:Incoming UT freshman Brandon Jones has put in some good words on the Longhorns' behalf.
"He just told me they're a DB school. If I'm looking to succeed at my position, it would be a great school. The coaches at Texas want kids to get an education first, and that's what I want to do," Thompson said.
Possible early decision:Thomspon said he may make a commitment before his senior season begins. If not, he'll try to make it shortly after it ends. (Suchomel)

When I last talked to Missouri City Elkins LB
Kenneth Murray, the contact with the UT staff was somewhat limited. The next day, he picked up a UT offer. I followed up with him this week to get the details.
"My coach texted me, told me to give coach Haley a call. I got on the phone with coach Haley, coach Strong was there, coach Bedford, coach BJ. I talked to coach strong first, after that Bedford, coach BJ, then coach Haley. It was like a 20 minute call," Murray said.
Murray released a top 10 on Wednesday and the Longhorns made the cut. He plans to look into those schools over the next few months and then try to come to an early decision.
"I'm going to start looking into the schools in my 10, dig deep into those," Murray said. "I'll possibly commit before the season, if not before the season I'll have a top five before the season."
Murray plans to hit UT's satellite camp in Houston later this month. (Suchomel)

Texas defensive end commitment
LaGaryonn Carson is hoping to make it to UT's mini-camp on June 12. If he's able to come, he said he'll probably just hang out and spend some time with the coaches and other prospects in attendance.
With the spring semester coming to a close, recruiting has kind of slowed down for Carson. Other schools have backed off ... for now.
"Everybody kind of knows where I stand," Carson said.
The 6-5, 255-pound Carson stays in close contact with the UT coaches, particularly area recruiter Jeff Traylor. He said Traylor's presence is a big reason why he committed to Texas.
"I talk to him every day. I'm just riding with him regardless," Carson said. "It's just everything about him, him as a person. He's been knowing me ever since I played against him when he was at Gilmer. And I know a lot about him." (Suchomel)

Texas will host its first summer camp this Sunday. I've reached out to a number of the Longhorns' top 2017 prospects but honestly, haven't had a ton of responses. A few notable players who told us they'll be in attendance ...
Montrell Estell- DB - Hooks
Damion Miller- WR - John Tyler (is a maybe, depends on parents)
Josh Thompson- DB - Nacogdoches (probable)
Randall Royall- LB - Houston Stratford
Kary Vincent- DB - Port Arthur Memorial (hitting one of the two mini-camps)
Anthony Cook- DB - Houston Lamar (2018)
Kobe Boyce- DB - Lake Dallas (possibly but more likely on June 12)
