Recruiting Thread 2017

Rumors Kai failed two summer school classes and will be transferring out.

He also started following other schools' coaches on twitter.

Bummer if true. Best of luck to him.

I know his role here as WR/QB was in question. But I never like to see a kid fail in the classroom.

Student is the first word in student/athlete.

I guess the silver lining is him along with Newsome would square the #s up and allow for Fowler to get in if he indeed qualified. I'd guess there will still be more attrition. Its just the way it works. And we might need one spot to give a scholarship to a special walk on kicker ;)

Sounds more like he had made up his mind to move on and did not go to class than tried and failed.

Rumor also has it that he couldn't throw it in the ocean if he were standing in the surf! If both rumors are true then I'm not sad to see him go. We already have a few QB's with those . . . 'tangibles'???

I would have guessed that. But that is still a bad idea. You sign up for something, you follow thru on it. So you sign up for class, you go. Period. Even if your plan is to change schools. And you don't care that much about your degree and just football. You still take the classes and get the credits, they most likely transfer.

If you don't want to go to class and plan on xferring, just drop the classes.

I made a lot of stupid decisions when I was 18.

Too bad about Kai and Newsome, but it happens. Hopefully, this will be the last year we have to think of the QB position as our weakest link.

I made a lot of stupid decisions when I was 18.

Everyone makes bad decisions in life.

But skipping summer classes with intent to just fail them......is just plain dumb. And I think Locksley is about 20 years old. Just saying.

No prob if you want to transfer. But failing classes will follow you to your next destination.

Brock Wright...solid commit.
Yeah, I don't blame these top tier pass catching TEs going where they'll be thrown to a lot (ND, Bama, etc). This new offense of ours doesn't really utilize them too much beyond blocking from past performance.

I'm surprised he got out of Texas at all. I'm a huge fan of the TE, so I followed his recruitment closely. I thought a Texas school would snatch him up.

Are any of the blue chips going to the that event in BCS?

The Hammroid's list of confirmed attendees is floating around. This is just sad: 11 of the 17 recruits from the class of 2017 are already committed to aggy. Among the six that aren't, just one is a 247 composite four-star.

The Eyes of Texas: Under the Lights notes

One of the biggest questions surrounding Under The Lights is whether or not Nacogdoches cornerback Josh Thompson will make it to campus. Right now, I don’t have a definite answer. But here’s everything I know about the situation. Thompson originally planned to visit Texas this weekend, but I’m told he is afraid he will lose his TCU offer if he does. Thompson does not have a Longhorn offer in hand yet, so it makes sense as to why he would proceed with caution. I’m also told that Thompson had a great time in Fort Worth over the weekend. The TCU coaches were said to have made a strong sell to him on why he should stay pledged to the Horned Frogs.

According to sources, there’s a chance Thompson doesn’t make it to Texas, avoids any drama and remains committed to TCU — a school he is perfectly content attending. However, I have reason to believe Thompson will make it down at some point this weekend. I also have reason to believe that Texas would offer if he shows up. And that’s where things would get really interesting. Thompson has always wanted Texas offer, he has strong ties to both Brandon Jones and Jeff Traylor and he wants to play with Lake Dallas cornerback and current Texas commit Kobe Boyce. There are still a lot of moving parts going in with this recruitment, and Thompson, his family and those around him are mulling things over carefully.

So what’s the deal with Boyce? I’m told the only reason Boyce camped with TCU this weekend is because he went there with Thompson. The two are really good friends, have the same trainer and have talked about playing with each other at the next level. TCU did not offer Boyce, Iowa landed Dallas Bishop Dunne cornerback Chevin Calloway and Alabama will likely not offer. Right now, Boyce doesn’t really have many viable options, and sources close to the situation tell me that he’s once again close to 100-percent committed after almost backing out of his pledge a few weeks ago.

According to sources, Boyce loves Texas and that’s where he wants to be. He apparently let a lot of the limelight and negative recruiting get in his head. I’m told two schools really pushed against Texas over the last month. Overall, it seems Texas is back in the lead position with Boyce, who will be at Under The Lights this weekend. (Holland)

Under The Lights is almost here. The most important Texas recruiting event of the summer and the last until official visits take place later in the cycle will feature a number of highly touted prospects, including some of the Longhorns’ most coveted targets. The biggest question on everybody’s mind heading into the event: Will there be any commits? If I had to bet all the elongated tees in my closet, I would probably say there will be none. Really, the best chance for the Longhorns to earn a commitment might be with the aforementioned Josh Thompson. As I explained earlier, Thompson’s situation is pretty murky right now. But if he does make his way to campus, I wouldn’t be surprised if he earns an offer and flips to Texas.

The only other 2017 recruit I could see making a verbal pledge is Temple defensive end Taquon Graham. The four-star prospect was supposed to make his decision in May and was considered a heavy Texas lean. Graham ended up pushing his decision back, but he could decide to go ahead and finalize things this weekend. Texas is still the leader here with TCU being the only other school that’s a real threat. In the 2018 class, Yoakum brothers Jordan Moore and Joshua Moore are two recruits to keep an eye on. Yes, they want to wait until next year, but it’s clear both love Texas, especially Jordan.

While there might be a lack of commits, there could be a handful of offers extended before the weekend comes to an end. In the 2017 class, Thompson is the most obvious. Keep an eye on Texas A&M linebacker commit Devodrick Johnson of Dallas Kimball, who is penciled in as a maybe for the event. Victoria East tight end Chance McLeod could be another offer candidate following the decommitment of Bullard’s Major Tennison. There’s definitely a higher number of prospects who could earn offers in the 2018 class. Crosby running back Craig Williams, Dallas Bishop Dunne defensive tackle Calvin Avery, Dallas Carter defensive end Jarell Cherry, Lovejoy linebacker Bumper Pool, Rockwall-Heath cornerback Tanner McCalister and Cibolo Steele safety Caden Sterns are some possibilities who could impress the staff enough to claim an offer. (Holland)

While Kobe Boyce seems to be growing more solid with his commitment, the same can’t be said about DeSoto offensive lineman Xavier Newman. Right now, it still appears that Newman will flip to Oklahoma. Texas is still trying to keep him in the boat, and he might visit for Under The Lights, but it’s somewhat of an uphill battle at this point. So what’s the plan if Newman does indeed abandon ship?

Honestly, there aren’t a lot of interior offensive linemen on the board. Frisco’s Jack Anderson (Texas Tech) and Newman’s DeSoto teammate Edward Ingram (LSU) are both out of the picture. McKinney Boyd’s Tyrese Robinson (Oklahoma) and Shawnee (Okla.) Texas A&M commit Creed Humphrey are currently pledged elsewhere and are considered long shots. Fort Bend Travis’ Will Farrar is the only other interior offensive lineman with a Texas offer. However, I’m told that the Longhorns will not pursue the Texas Tech commit at this time.

With Patrick Hudson and J.P. Urquidez now on campus, two additions which make 10 high school offensive linemen the Longhorns have taken in the last two recruiting classes, it seems Texas is content only taking two offensive linemen in this class. One will be a pure tackle, while the other will likely be a swing players who could be a guard or a tackle. The top target on the board right now is Houston Bellaire Episcopal product Walker Little. The five-star prospect is high on Ole Miss, Stanford and Texas. Right now, I still think the Longhorns hold the edge. Stanford, however, is a close second.

Gonzales (La.) East Ascension’s Adrian Ealy plans to make an official visit to Texas but he will likely land at LSU. Aldeo’s Chuck Filiaga is also in the mix, but the Longhorns have some work to do with the U.S. Army All-American. Texas A&M commit Grayson Reed of Houston Cypress Creek was high on Texas early on and could still be an option. Some names to know that we’ve heard Texas has shown interest in and could move on are Denton’s Grant Polley, Keller Timber Creek’s Alan Ali and Austin Westlake’s Stephan Zabie. The bottom line is that even if Newman does flip at some point, the staff might only be looking at filling his spot in the class before closing the book on offensive line recruiting in the 2017 cycle. OL Adrian Ealy of Gonzales, LA will be on campus next week, per 24/7.

One of the most important visitors at Under The Lights this weekend is Lancaster wide receiver Omar Manning. The four-star prospect currently has TCU at the top of list, but the Longhorns are making a strong push. This will be his second time on campus in as many months. “I just want to get down there and gel with the coaches again,” Manning said. “I hopefully want to hang out with the players that are committed or players that are already there. That is pretty much it.” Manning does not have a top list of schools at this time, but he said Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M were some of the programs sticking out along with TCU and Texas.

UT should get a boost in Manning’s recruitment thanks to a special connection — his high school coach Chris Gilbert played college football with new Texas offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert, and the two are close. “Coach (Chris) Gilbert is going to shoot it straightforward with me,” Manning said. “He’ll tell me the truth about anybody. He told me that they are sincere and that they have good intentions.” Manning, however, will make the best decision for himself. When it comes down to committing, Manning said he is looking for great academics, coaches he can bond with and an opportunity to make an early impact.

Texas seems to check all the boxes. “I like the way Coach (Charlie) Williams operates,” Manning said. “I haven’t seen too much of the new offense. They showed me some spring film when I was there, and I liked it. I’m trying to get down there this season for a game.” But Manning might already be committed by that time. He hopes to narrow his list soon and make a decision before the beginning of his senior season. He plans on closing out the summer with visits to Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee. At 6-foot-3, 203 pounds, Manning is ranked as the No. 21 wide receiver in the country and No. 22 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite. (EJ Holland)

Here are Wednesday's notes on Texas targets (Horns247).

— Hutto defensive end Ondario Robinson will be at Under The Lights this weekend. Robinson was originally slated to be at Texas A&M but is pushing that trip back to Sunday. Robinson recently named UT in his Top 4.

— Four-star Galena Park North Shore defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson is still trying to decide between going to LSU and Texas this weekend. Chaisson should finalize his plans in a couple of days.

— Sleeper South Oak Cliff athlete Markiese King will also be in attendance for Under The Lights this weekend. King is an explosive slot receiver that can also play cornerback. The three-star prospect holds a Louisville offer.

— Dallas Lincoln product Devodric Bynum is another under the radar wide receiver that will be in attendance for Under The Lights. The three-star recruit holds offers from Nevada, New Mexico State and SMU.

— Lancaster wide receiver Cartrell Thomas is a maybe to be at Under The Lights this weekend. Thomas, a three-star prospect, has a dozen offers and is a teammate of top target Omar Manning.

— Three-star 2018 Prestonwood Christian cornerback Jeremiah Lewis is slated to be at Under The Lights on Saturday. Lewis has an early offer in hand from SMU and should notch more down the line.

LB Kenneth Murray told OrangeBloods that he won't be in Austin this weekend. He's still scheduled to commit on August 10th.

OG/C Xavier Newman is expected to be at OU's BBQ next weekend. He is not expected to be at ours this weekend. Go ahead and count him as a decommit.

Texas will host its third annual Under The Lights Camp on campus this Saturday. The event is expected to be loaded with talented 2017 and 2018 targets. Last year's camp led to a number of new offers and some movement on the recruiting trail. More of the same could be in store this year. Here is a breakdown of 2017 recruits expected to be in attendance.

Offered Targets

WR Omar Manning, Lancaster — Manning recently told Horns247 that TCU was at the top of his list. With that said, the Longhorns are squarely in the mix for the four-star prospect. This will be his second trip to Austin in as many months. Manning’s high school head coach, Chris Gilbert, played college football with new Texas offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert, which should give the Longhorns a boost in his recruitment. Manning, who is Texas’ top wide receiver target, plans to make a decision before the end of summer.

DE Taquon Graham, Temple — Graham was expected to make a decision this spring but decided to pushing things back until the fall. Texas was the heavy favorite in his recruitment at the time, and nothing has changed. While Oklahoma, TCU and USC are all on his radar, the Longhorns still appear to have a clear advantage. Texas should be able to keep the momentum going with Graham after this weekend’s visit.

DE K’Lavon Chaisson, North Shore — It’s still not clear if Chaisson will be going to LSU or Texas this weekend. The four-star prospect is one of the state’s best pass rushers and would be a great fit for the Longhorns at the ‘Fox’ position. Chaisson named Texas at the bottom of his Top 10 list earlier this offseason but recently told Horns247 that the Longhorns have made a big surge in his recruitment. With that said, it is imperative for Texas to get him on campus in order to have a legitimate shot.

DE Ondario Robinson, Hutto — Robinson was originally scheduled to visit Texas A&M on Saturday but decided to push that trip back a day in order to make his way to Austin. Robinson also made an unofficial visit to Texas last month and recently named the Longhorns in his Top 4. While Texas A&M still remains the team to beat in his recruitment, the Longhorns are certainly making up some ground. A great visit could change some things for Robinson.

DT Damion Daniels, Bishop Dunne — Texas is really focused on Marvin Wilson at the defensive tackle position, but the Longhorns haven’t forgotten about Daniels. He is one of only a handful defensive tackle recruits that holds a UT offer. At 6-foot-1, 315 pounds, Daniels is a monster in the middle and big-time run stuffer. Daniels named Texas in his Top 12 earlier this summer and is wide open in his recruitment.

OLB Baron Browning, Kennedale — One of Texas’ top overall prospects, Browning is perhaps the most important target in the 2017 class. The five-star prospect is extremely talented and will be making a decision in November, which means he could have a Malik Jefferson-type impact if he sided with the Longhorns. Right now, Texas has the in-state edge over TCU, but out-of-state programs like Alabama, Ohio State and UCLA will all be tough to beat. Browning last visited UT for junior day in February, so getting him back on campus is huge for Texas.

ILB Anthony Hines, Plano East — The most offered recruit in the modern era obviously has a ton of options to choose from, but Texas is making its mark. Hines has been on the Forty Acres a number of times during his recruitment, has a high opinion of Charlie Strong and the coaching staff and is good friends with linebacker Malik Jefferson. Hines, who last visited Texas for junior day, is an early enrollee and plans to make his decision before the start of his senior season, making this a huge visit.

Commits

QB Sam Ehlinger, Austin Westlake — The leader of this 2017 class, Ehlinger is fully committed to Texas and will spend most of his time in Austin this weekend recruiting some of the aforementioned targets. Ehlinger had an opportunity to spend time with guys like Browning, Hines and Manning at The Opening, so having him interact with them on the Forty Acres is huge for Texas.

WR Damion Miller, John Tyler — Miller has been committed to Texas since last year, but the four-star prospect has been open about the possibility of taking other visits. Miller recently told Horns247 that Ole Miss and Texas A&M were two schools still pushing hard for his services. Miller wants to see the new offense in action this season before he completely solidifies his commitment, but this visit should help.

DE Lagaryonn Carson, Liberty-Eylau — Carson was fairly quiet all summer but recently hopped back on social media and started recruiting a handful of Texas targets. If Carson can get things together from a mental aspect, he will be one of the cornerstones of this recruiting class. Right now, Carson is fully committed to Texas and, like Ehlinger, is ready to do some more recruiting this weekend.

CB Kobe Boyce, Lake Dallas — Boyce called Texas his dream school when he committed earlier this offseason, but things have been bumpy as of late. The three-star prospect made an unofficial visit to Iowa, camped at TCU last weekend and is slated to make an unofficial visit to Oklahoma next weekend. We have heard that Boyce is growing more solid to UT, but it’s clear he is still open to other options.

ATH Montrell Estell, Hooks — The four-star prospect made a surprise commitment to Texas in May and has been extremely quiet ever since. Estell is a maybe to make it in this weekend. Getting him on campus would be a plus for UT as it tries to continue to strengthen his commitment. Estell was strongly considering Texas A&M before giving the Longhorns a verbal pledge.

Other Prospects

WR Sam Crawford, Rockwall — One of the most productive receivers in the state last year, Crawford holds double digit offers. Texas likes him as a defensive back.

WR Cartrell Thomas, Lancaster — A maybe for this event, Thomas is more than just Manning’s teammate. He is an explosive slot receiver with a dozen offers of his own.

WR Devodric Bynum, Dallas Lincoln — A three-star prospect, Bynum is an underrated wide out with three offers.

WR Herb Sparks, Dallas Wilmer-Hutchins — Sparks is a deep sleeper this cycle and currently holds two offers.

TE Chance McLeod, Victoria East — A UTSA commit, McLeod could be a replacement option for recent Texas decommit Major Tennison.

TE Kenny Nelson, Frisco Centennial — Nelson opened some eyes at the Texas Dallas satellite camp. He is more of a hybrid tight end that can play receiver and H-Back.

ILB Mohamed Sanogo, Plano West — Perhaps the most underrated prospect in the state, Sanogo is UT’s Plan B in case it misses on Hines.

CB Josh Thompson, Nacogdoches — Thompson is a maybe to make it to Texas this weekend. If he does, the Longhorns could extend an offer.

CB Speedy Green, Dallas Woodrow Wilson — A New Mexico commit, Green has attended multiple Texas events over the last year and is on the radar.

S Donovan Stiner, Houston Bellaire — A former Baylor commit, Stiner camped with Texas earlier this summer and could be nearing an offer from the Longhorns.

S Ashton Logan, Temple — An Arizona State commit, Logan is an intriguing player than can line up at linebacker or safety at the next level.

S Quincy Addison, Angleton — A Texas Tech pledge, Addison is a maybe to make it to the event. He may be a prospect Texas targets late.

ATH Markiese King, South Oak Cliff — King holds an offer from Louisville and is an electric slot receiver. He can also play cornerback and return kicks and punts.

War room

It's been a pretty slow couple weeks on the recruiting front, but that should change a bit this weekend with the Longhorns set to host their annual Under the Lights camp on Saturday night.

One of the prospects we'll be watching closely at that event, assuming he makes it in, is cornerback Josh Thompson. A TCU commitment, Thompson has been on UT's radar for a while but his profile is on the rise after a solid showing at The Opening. A good performance on Saturday could put him in line for a Texas offer, which could make things interesting.

Thompson told us midweek that he's "trying to get a ride" in for the camp so he can show up, compete and try to make an impression on the UT coaches.

Key quote:"Right now, I'm committed. It's a good commitment to TCU," Thompson said. "I'm still taking things slowly with everything, opening up a little bit more."

Relationship with Texas:Thompson said he talks to the UT coaches about every other day. Jeff Traylor, Vance Bedford and Charlie Strong are the point men.

"They basically just told me to come down this weekend, that they like the way I play, would like to see me in person," Thompson said.

If Texas does offer?:Thompson said if the Longhorns do offer, he's not sure how he would react. His thinking is that if Texas offers, it could open the doors for several other programs to follow suit. But he's not sure what his next move would be.

"Right now, at the moment, I have no clue," he said. "Once they offer, it would probably be a decision I'd have to look at."

A couple people in UT's corner: Thompson spent a lot of time talking with UT QB commitment Sam Ehlinger at The Opening. Ehlinger has been working on Thompson since that event, including starting the twitter movement of #WeWantJosh.

After balling with @given__talent in Oregon, I know we need him! Let's get him to Austin #WeWantJosh

— Sam Ehlinger (@sehlinger3)July 15, 2016

Thompson is a former high school teammate of UT freshman Brandon Jones, and Jones is another who has been working to get him to Austin.

"Always," Thompson said when asked if Jones was recruiting on Texas' behalf. "He wants me in Austin. I know he does."

Speaking of Jones: I asked Thompson what Jones has told him about his first couple months in Austin. Jones has been doing well in off-season workouts, which Thompson said comes as no surprise.

"I knew he had it in him. I knew it had to take some time, but he's getting there. The only thing he said that changed is the school, the work in the classes and stuff," Thompson said. "He fit right in. When he was down here, me and him worked out 24/7 so I knew he wouldn't have any problems." (Suchomel)

Missouri City Elkins LB Kenneth Murray has a family commitment, so he won't be able to make it to the UTL camp on Saturday. Getting him on campus would have been big with Murray planning to announce his commitment on August 10.

Up next, Murray will visit Oklahoma next week for a two-day visit that will span Friday and Saturday. He's not sure if he'll make it back to Austin before he commits.

Key quote: "I really don't know right now," Murray said when asked where Texas fits in his big picture. "I've got it narrowed down to about six schools - OU, Texas, A&M, Houston, Michigan and Nebraska."

Thoughts on Texas: "They're definitely a great program. I like coach Strong, like what he has going at Texas. They're going to be good," Murray said. "I talk to coach (Vance) Bedford and (Brian Jean-Mary) pretty much every day. I have a great relationship with those guys. It just comes down to which school fits me best."

Deciding factors: Most felt like Murray was a strong Texas lean once Texas offered, but this one's pretty tough to call at this point. The OU visit could loom large and Texas A&M is very much in the picture as well.

I asked Murray what kind of "fit" he's looking for.

"Academics, family environment, the style of play I want to play, stuff like that," Murray said. "I want to be in a defense that's aggressive, attacking for sure. Something like that." (Suchomel)

A few quick-hitter notes on some of UT's top 2017 targets ...

WR Omar Manning - I continue to hear very good things about where Texas stands in this one. Manning is expected at the camp on Saturday night. This one probably won't be resolved anytime soon and Texas A&M is also rumored to be heavily in the mix, but I've heard from a few people now that Manning is leaning UT's way.

OL Walker Little - Nothing really concrete to report on this one, but nothing has changed from what I've been hearing for a while. From everything I hear, this one continues to trend Texas' way, with Stanford being the Longhorns' biggest threat.

LB Anthony Hines - There was a time a while back when I thought Oklahoma might be the team to beat here. I'm hearing that's not the case at this point. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a UT lean, but if he is in fact not leaning OU's direction, that can't be a bad thing for Texas since the Sooners have been believed to be the Longhorns' biggest threat. Hines will be in town for the UTL camp.

******

A look at some of the top prospects who have confirmed with OB that they'll be in Austin for the Under the Lights camp. This obviously isn't a complete list of camp participants, but it's a pretty good list of the top talent that will be on campus, and the guys on which we'll be focusing our coverage.

Sam Ehlinger - QB - Austin Westlake - Not much to say here. Will be interesting to see if he works out, or just spends his time recruiting other prospects.

Omar Manning - WR - Lancaster - Mentioned him above. Getting him on campus again is huge for Texas. He'll get a lot of love from the staff.

Damion Miller - WR - John Tyler - His commit has firmed up, and things should look even better after Saturday's visit.

LaGaryonn Carson - DE Liberty-Eylau - He's tried to get to campus a few times but hasn't been able to make it. Let's see if he shows up. If he does, that's huge for Texas since other schools will continue to work him until NSD.

Taquon Graham - DE - Temple - Everyone thought he would commit to UT at his spring game. He pushed things back. Could it happen this weekend? Not out of the question.

Baron Browning- LB Kennedale - Long way to go here, but any time he gets around the UT staff and current team members is a huge bonus.

Anthony Hines - LB - Plano East - Same story as Browning. And having those two on campus together is big.

Montrell Estell - DB - Hooks - Seems solid with his commitment every time I talk to him.

Kobe Boyce - DB - Lake Dallas - Has had a bit of a wondering eye, so getting him around the coaches is big.

Josh Thompson - DB - Nacogdoches - Definite offer watch.

Zaquincius Addison - DB - Angleton (Texas Tech commit) - This one will be interesting to follow if he performs well. A strong showing could put him squarely on UT's radar.

Jaelon Darden - ATH - Houston Heights - Has a few offers.

Cameron Johnson - DB - Houston Heights - Part of a big contingent of teammates; another player with some offers.

2018 prospects

Tanner Mordecai
- QB - Waco Midway - Camped at UT earlier this summer. Not expecting a QB offer this early but he'll be high on the 2018 QB list.

Clayton Tune - QB - Lewisville Hebron - Did very well at OU camp; another guy I'm curious to watch.

William Brown - QB - Lamar Consolidated

Kirby Bennett - RB - Allen - The 2018 RB group at the camp will be stacked. Bennett is big-time.

Brock Sturges - RB - Allen - Transfer from Katy Seven Lakes. Another very good talent.

Craig Williams - RB - Crosby - Already holds tons of offers.

Joshua Fleeks - RB - Cedar Hill - Holds a few early offers.

Brennan Eagles - WR - Alief Taylor – Showed well at the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge. Told me this week Texas isn’t showing a ton of interest, but that could change with a strong showing this weekend. Holds offers from USC, TCU and a few others.

Al'Vonte Woodard - WR - Houston Lamar – Four-star receiver with a bunch of offers.

Calvin Avery - DT - Dallas Bishop Dunne – Four-star prospect with a bunch of early offers.

Shabazz Dotson - DT/DE - Cedar Hill – Could be a guy to watch down the road. Texas Tech, Michigan have already offered.

Bumper Pool - LB - Lucas Lovejoy – Definite offer watch here. Alabama, A&M are among his early offers.
Joshua Reed - LB - Houston Heights

Jarell Cherry - LB/DE - Dallas Carter – Has a couple early offers. Could be a guy to watch down the road.

Chad Bailey - LB - Missouri City Ridge Point -

Jalen Green - DB - Houston Reagan – Definite offer watch. Top national prospect.

Caden Sterns - DB - Cibolo Steele – Another guy who is on offer watch. Top prospect with lots of offers.

Anthony Cook - DB - Houston Lamar - Already holds a Texas offer. It’s early but UT is in great shape on this one.

B.J. Foster - DB - Angleton – State’s top prospect for 2018. First visit to the Forty Acres so this is big.
Jeremiah Lewis - DB - Prestonwood Christian Academy

Note: Joshua Moore - WR - Yoakum and Jordan Moore - DB - Yoakum will not be attending the camp, but will visit UT early next week.

With summer recruiting nearing a close I wanted to look at where our class stands now by position. With only 6 commits, there is a lot of hope but also a lot of uncertainty. I love Charlie's style but it sure makes summers more stressful. I trust he will close and this post is all about that. Who does Texas have, who are we pursuing, and who is likely to be ours come NSD? Texas commits are highlighted in Burnt Orange, players who have committed elsewhere in grey. I've included their 247 star ranking in parenthesis and ranked them in order. I've also included a percentage of how likely I feel they end up at Texas (very rough estimate). I used a previous post that predicted a 19 player class with the position breakdown as posted below.

I'm looking forward to y'alls thoughts. I'll post the defensive positions in a few days.

QB-1
Sam Ehlinger (4) 110%
Solid commit, very excited about his potential.

RB-1
Najee Harris (5)
JK Dobbins
(4) 40%
Toeneil Carter (4)
Dobbins is an OSU commit but many are still confident that Texas has a chance here, especially if Cam Akers commits to OSU. It's a shaky proposition at best, especially that it depends on Akers choice.

It does not seem like anyone else is really on the radar at this time if Dobbins doesn't fall to us. We've got some talented young runners on campus but getting at least one in this cycle would be ideal. If not Dobbins, who?

TE-1
Brock Wright (4)
Major Tennison (3)
Kedrick James (3) ?%
With the loss of Tennison, we are lacking a commit at this position of need. Sure, our offense can click without a TE but an impact player here would be nice. The only offer out at this time to an uncommitted player is James. I don't know much about him or where we stand but he was ranked just below Major. Traylor is recruiting him so that's a good sign.

WR-3
Devonta Smith (4) 0%
Jalen Reagor (4)
Hezekiah Jones (4) 10%
Damion Miller (4) 100%
Omar Manning (4) 60%
Tyrell Shavers (4)
Mannie Netherly (4)

Damion Miller is a solid player and appears to be a solid commit. Certainly a player that could factor in out wide for us in the next few years. Manning is the only other feasible option with an offer right now at WR. I like our chances with him currently (battling TCU), especially after getting him on campus for UTL. If we miss on him, it's a long drop down the list to snag a second WR. As it is, if we want three, it'll be at best a 3 star player.

Nice list but where is the defense. Also the TE kid out of Victoria is getting a little look at as well. I heard some good things about him
