Passed away yesterday. Olympic gold medalist, 2x heavyweight boxing champion, street preacher, Got rich selling BBQ grills. And one of the great characters. I can still remember Howard Cossell when he knocked out Joe Frazier. Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! 😂 Sad to see him go.

George Foreman was 76.

he did the best of the best "Don't Mess with Texas" commercials ever. He turned out to be one of the good guys even though he was brought up in some of the worst conditions imaginable......5th ward Houston. He started out as a baaaad man....a thug.

.....and, those were not BBQ grills. they were counter top indoor grills. ..small company....needed a spokesman to try and get their product off the ground. The turned to Foreman ( since they figured him to be cheap) and asked if he would be the front man. Uneducated George said....ok....but instead of paying me up front, just give me $2.00 a grill sold....They could not get a contract in his hands quick enough. The grills took off ( George Foreman Grills) and that company tried for years to get George to renegotiate his contract.

I liked to set it up with bacon the night before and when my alarm went off I would hit the on button and wake up to the smell of bacon every day. Then one morning I forgot it was there and stepped on it and gave myself 2nd degree burns.

How did you step on it?

Did you not own a counter top?

I was consulting on a blow out in between Marshall and Carthage about 20 years ago. Stopped at a store on HWY 59 to get gas and lunch. George Foreman was in there and evidently a regular. I swear it was like shaking hands with someone wearing a catchers mitt.
