Ewers looked great yesterday. Didn't miss a step from the beat down he was putting on Alabama til he got hurt.
If heathy, I don't see how he can be challenged for the starting spot until he goes pro.
Maybe it's a perfect situation for Arch to come in and red shirt for next year while he learns,
But do you think he has aspirations/expectations of starting as a freshman?

I don’t believe so. I have heard he’s perfectly content with redshirting his first year. If it goes according to plan, 2024 it will be Malik and Arch battling for the starting job. With Ewers talent I bet he’s gone after next year.

Arch has said publicly that he plans to redshirt and has no problem with it. We'll have Ewers next year, then Manning in '24, '25, and maybe '26.

I personally don't think ewers is leaving after next year. Earliest he leaves is end of his junior year. So I think arch starts as a redshirt sophomore

Why don’t you think he leaves after next year? He is projected to be an NFL 1st rounder, likely to be a top ten pick. Very few college players with those NFL projections stay in college longer than they need to.

I’d bet a lot of money he’s gone after next year. He has to much talent. He’s already left high school a year early to get paid. I see him doing the same thing next year.

I 100% agree. He could make more money in the NFL and I’m sure his dream is to play in the NFL. Might as well strike while the iron is hot. Doesn’t make sense to come back for another year if you’re a for sure first rounder or top ten pick. The only reason to stay is if he is making equal money at Texas, even then it doesn’t make sense to stay.

I don’t think it’s unrealistic to believe Ewers will be the number 1 overall pick after next season.. He’s eligible for the draft since it’s after his 3rd year of college. Generation talent at the QB position. I think he’s a lock for the top pick if he continues to progress in his development.

Agreed. I didn’t want to say this and sound like a biased Texas fan lol. But he definitely has #1 pick written all over him. The crazy thing is he’s still so young, has only played in 3 games, and he already looks like one of the best qbs in the country. Scary to imagine how good he will be next year assuming he stays healthy.

He’s still basically the equivalent of a true freshman in college since last year technically should have been his senior year in HS.

Ewers has played a total of 2-3/16 college football games. Yes, his natural talent jumps off of the screen. But, we might need to tap the brakes on being a #1 overall pick after next season. Let’s see what unfolds here over the next 20 or so games and try to enjoy it without anointing the kid before he has even defeated a good opponent. OU and ULM are both terrible. Also, as longhorn fans, we should know all too well that the unexpected can derail even the most promising scenarios. Sky is the limit IF he and the team can stay healthy and the OL continues to improve. If he lights up a good ISU defense next week, this season will start to look alot better. OU was a perfect game to knock off the rust.
Was good to see him use his legs a little yesterday. He can chew up yardage better than I anticipated.

He could not play another down of football from now until the end of next year and still be a top 5 pick based off of talent alone. He has arm talent that NFL scouts are already drooling over right now.

I’ve already seen 4-5 throws he’s made this year that only a handful of guys in the NFL can make. That 20-25 yard out he threw against Bama is the hardest throw for a QB to make and he made it look like a routine throw. I’m telling you there’s no need to hold off on this kid, he’s special.

I completely agree. He has really impressed me. His first 3 starts include bama and OU and he didn’t look phased at all. I know OU isn’t very good this year but it’s still a tough environment and he seemed to thrive in it. He’s only going to get better and better.

His poise is what sticks out the most to me. He doesn’t look like a freshman back there in the pocket. He said the game has already slowed down so much for him since that first game.

Guess we all agree and want to laud Ewers' performance and potential, but my original question remains.
Will Arch have reservations given he might have to sit on the bench one, or potentially two years?

Ewers was ready from day 1. Arch has the family name though. Question is though, is Arch all that?

It’s been pretty well known that the plan was for Arch to come and redshirt next year and have Ewers start. He said he’s ok with this.

MM.....what keeps me from being excited by this news is the fact that Case (Herp a Derp )McCoy broke all of Colts HS records I heard...

I said some time back that if Ewers came in and was all he was hyped up to be, and then Arch comes in and does the same that Sark would have first choice of the top HS QB's from then on. It didn't hurt Ryley's QB recruiting to have back to back Heisman QB's

No, the Mannings are about the NFL career. Allowing the Texas OL another year to develop is a plus for the Manning family.

Quinn will enter the draft after next year barring any injuries or unforeseen circumstances.

Arch will go to the draft after 3 years in college. It doesn't matter if he takes snaps during that first year because it will not effect his draft grade (if he is as good as claimed). So why would he want to rush to get on the field vs red shirting behind Quinn for a year. There is no reason I can think of.

This. Plus he is such a big name that he is guaranteed to get tons of NIL $$$ even if he sits out a year and redshirts. It’s a win win for him.

Yeah, and redshirting doesn't really matter anyway. He's not staying through a red shirt senior season. Let him play as much as needed in blowouts his freshman year, doesn't matter if he technically red shirts or not.

The only thing about playing in blowouts is you're not getting those passing reps you need for development. It's usually just handing the ball off to run out the clock.
