Only because Notre Dame doesn't want to be there. Like seriously, I am pretty sure Notre Dame no longer wants to be there. And I don't blame them.

It doesn't make a shit. Nobody gets a pass in the regular season when teams have players out. The narrative is, "it is part of the game."
Well, opt outs are now part of the game. Suck it up and deal with it.
And it also could be that those teams had their full rosters when the game was played. Florida played Alabama to the wire with a mostly full roster minus a top 5 NFL draft pick. I can’t imagine anyone on this board not saying you had 14 players out would hurt quite a bit and not think it would make an impact on how your team approached the game.
for the record I’m not a big conference pusher. Before A&M joined the league I loved watching SEC football so I did have some teams I liked but always hated Alabama, LSU and Florida. I need those teams to lose and get worse so mine can be better.

Yes, obviously you have to deal with it but don’t act like it doesn’t make a difference in a game.

I'm going to be clear here. It doesn't make a shit why players are out now. Opt-outs are now part of the game. Deal with it and stop making excuses.
Florida got the shit kicked out of them and they don't get partial credit because they were missing players. It's a loss, and a blow out loss at that.

Yep, but the definition I got here was that it doesn’t matter. I think it does but I suppose we will hear if A&M wins that the only reason they did was because of opt outs. I believe OU was the better team full strength or not. They were playing well at the end of the season. The game would have been closer but OU I believe wins opt outs or not. We need to fix this opt out(quitting) crap in college football. It’s getting to be a joke.

2. It doesn't matter -- it is now part of the game, same as injuries. Plan accordingly and recruit accordingly.
3. The only way to fix the opt-outs is to expand the playoff to at least 16, let the G5 schools battle it out in the bowl games.
4. Bowl games used to be awesome. Now they're a shit show because of bowl tie-ins, opt-outs and the fact there are too many of them.
I'm cool with a playoff I guess. Wish they would implement some conditions...
1. You must have at least a .750 win %
2. You are not allowed to play FCS schools, unless you play 2 P5 schools in non-conference.
3. You must schedule at least 1 P5 school in non-conference.
If these conditions aren't made, how hard is it going to be for some second rate school get in? Play 4 cream puff non-conference games...go 4-0. Go 4-4 or 5-3 in a "tough" conference and slide into that #16 spot. Stupid.
Lower tier SEC teams save bowl season. Kentucky, Ole Miss & Mississippi State all beat ranked teams. 5 & 2 is not bad. None of the 3 ended up with winning records, but beat seemingly decent Indiana, Tulsa, and NC State. Probably tells us more about BIG10 & ACC than the SEC.
I'm pulling for UNC tonight. However, they are without RB's Javonte Williams and Michael Carter, WR Dyami Brown and LB Chazz Surratt. With their three best offensive players and the best defensive player all out, and a&m having no players out doesn't look good for UNC tonight. Damn.
In fairness, this board has said it didn’t matter if there were opt outs. Florida had 14 players out with 9 starters and 3 first round picks. A&M’s best receiver, 2nd best linebacker and best corner opted out before the season so playing with those back ups as well as losing Cam Buckley and Baylor Cupp to injuries...Buckley was second best receiver. I will say it matters also to lose players like North Carolina did and Florida did. I’m just saying it has t seemed like the board agreed that it mattered.
I never said that. Maybe some others did. You can't be without the type of explosive offensive players like UNC will be without tonight and expect to be competitive. a&m wins easily.
I agree with you. Those are big losses. I hate the opt outs. I want good competitive conference vs conference games and we aren’t getting them. A&M doesn’t win anything easy. Jimbo establishes the run and tries to wear you out in the 2nd half. Starts with Spiller and then goes to Smith and Achane for speed and back to spiller to finish. Kind of boring but has been effective. I expect a close game no matter who it is
It doesn't matter, opt outs are the new world order get used to and plan accordingly. I think you mentioned expanding the playoffs earlier to help combat this; I would agree. If it wasn't you my apologies. I believe expansion to 8 teams with conference winners getting automatic bids could help. Of course 8 would likely grow. Regardless teams need to get ready to McGyver-ing their end of the year schedule .

You can't cry about opt-outs anymore. Kids don't give a shit unless it is about them "chasing that bag." Plan accordingly. There is no category for "yeah but." It is either a win or a loss.
The only way to slow down the opt-outs in post-season play is to expand the playoff to 12/16 teams.
Although, much like the Texas game, opt-outs do give the next in line players the opportunity to get significant playing time. That I do like.
It wasn’t me who mentioned it but I totally agree with expansion. I just hate it as a fan I guess. I wanted to see fully loaded Florida bs fully loaded OU. Great athletes on the field. North Carolina hasn’t been in this kind of bowl game and can’t even put their best players out there. I feel bad for them and hate it for all teams who work so hard then have to do this. I understand opt outs are a part of it going forward but it just sucks
I gotta be honest, I watched maybe 3 minutes of the game, I would switch over to see the score and then go back to watching Big Bang Theory. I guess I find nerds more interesting than blOwU.
Same for the Aggy game, neither game was interesting to me. I did wach the tOSU/Clemson game. I thought that was the best bowl game of the year, and I was right. I'll watch bama and tOSU, I'm looking forward to that one.

My bad. I made the mistake that most college football fans don't watch their rivals or conference mates' bowl games while watching others. You are right, you watching would not have changed Texas outcome...but the coach for Florida might have used that for a reason his scout team was plowed...who knows, happy new year SoW.
