Texas Recruiting

Most college towns are the same size if not smaller. You overestimate the allure of Austin, even to a young person. If this were true all the major metropolitan schools would rule. These are just facts. Columbus is the only exception that I know of and they are still half the size of Austin.
So you’re really going to sit here and say most young guys would prefer living in College Station over Austin? I know a ton of aggies, and they all got the hell out of CS immediately after graduating lol. Half of my Texas friends stayed in Austin because they loved the city so much. Don’t know many aggies that decided to stay In CS after graduating lol.

Schools that are taking the opportunity to pay kids without setting their own boundary's are going to be in for a rude awakening. It will work in the short term, but it is not a long term success plan.
This is 100% true. This post should be bookmarked because it will get way out of hand at some point.

It’s funny coming from Texas fans who are literally paying a high profile qb $4MM to play for us lol.

Except he signed a deal, he wasn’t just given money. There are conditions to earn that max dollars. It’s a tertiary entity helping him maximize his NIL. It’s not a car dealer throwing him half a mil just for signing with the condition you show up and wave a couple times a year

How did this become a debate about how shitty college station is? And how is that even a debate?

Lolol Right! No One from out of state has ever gone to college station and been like wow I’d love to live here one day lol.

Denver Harris to the Aggies. Another kid that just loves the beautiful landscape and natural beauty CS has to offer. Maybe one day their noble and ethical boosters will throw a few coins his way after he’s been a good lad and earned it…

Denver Harris to Aggy as expected. Harris looked injured. He was burned twice today by a 14 year old Freshman WR only to have passes dropped or overthrown by the opposing QB.

Omari Abor down to OSU and Texas.

Snake oil Fisher selling aggy hard. The reality is they'll never win anything with him as HC. Next year's a&m portal exodus will be interesting to watch.

As interesting as the Texas portal this year? Texas backing up the money truck for Ewers and publicly offering any offensive lineman 50K to play for them screams desperation and there is no room to call out anyone when offensive linemen all of a sudden starting committing. Hmmmm. Snake oil Sark is at it too I guess.

As for comparison of why anyone would want to play for A&M would show you haven't paid attention to what A&M is doing and renovations that have been made. That stadium is legit, the game day atmosphere is far better than anything that Texas can offer. The facilities are 2nd to none. College Station is a football town. That is what makes it attractive. Texas is the capital which makes it just another city. A lot of players don't like that. College Station revolves around the team. I would love to live in College Station, but people have to move for job purposes, not because they want out of College Station. Austin isn't for everyone and it doesn't have a "family" feel to it which is what most players say they enjoy about A&M.

Of the 10(I think) Texas portal transfers like 6 of them are grad transfers

Dude, we are wasting our breath.

agscoopf, what a hypocrite. You're pointing fingers at Texas for the very thing that Jimbo is doing. In case you don't know, it's legal to pay players now in college sports. No one has deeper pockets than Texas. a&m's worst nightmare just came true with Texas joining the SEC. Watch and wait. Texas will once again be the superior program in the state. It's coming.

Tell me you don’t understand NIL without telling me you don’t understand NIL

aggy is still butthurt over the SEC invite of Texas. This is the passive aggressive nature of aggy. They aren't getting what they want so they are going to go all in on the bag game. Look for aggy to get knocked down by one of their own in the SEC soon. This won't be allowed to continue. Daddy gonna have to take aggy to the woodshed. Look for their bag game to be outed in the media.

Dude, we are wasting our breath.

You have t responded to my request for logic.

You really think the #1 from PA, AZ, And TN are coming to the middle of nowhere Texas to play for a team that hasn’t won shit in 25 years and just went 8-4, again, without extren$ic motivation? Oh, and they don’t even know who their DC is for goodness sakes

The delusion and hypocrisy is strong with aggy. Always has been.

We shall see. Good luck to you guys and thank you for allowing opposing view points on here. It is a very entertaining board. You signed a very good and balanced class. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas.

Yeaaa every recruit wants to live in beautiful college station without being paid!! I mean who wouldn’t want to live in a boring cow town lol.

Same to you, JoeAg. It's nothing personal. I just don't like a&m.
Yes, I do appreciate the opposing views and enjoy the conversations. It's what makes college football so much fun to me. I have MANY Longhorn friends and we enjoy every football season going back and forth. I look forward to playing again

To be fair, Austin would be at the very bottom of my list of places I'd move to. Yep, I actually prefer the tiny cow towns within a reasonable commute to city shopping.
CS would be perfect for me except 1 glaring thing, everything is aggy centric as it should be.
Keep in mind I'm in my 40s and not a kid interested in clubs, bars, nightlife, partying, chasing girls ect ect. Hunting, fishing & homesteading is pretty much my life...as long as we still have some semblance of an oilfield south of I10 I'll keep it that way too.

I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. I was responding to the many that say A&M is paying players which is the only reason they are getting them. All I am saying is that Texas MAY not have gotten all of those offensive linemen in a short stretch RIGHT after they offered that 50K deal. All teams are trying to take advantage of this NIL stuff.
This class has been interesting just because I have been reading and following this particular class for a while. For 3 years the main nucleus has been tight and has trended A&M's way. Texags has talked about the 22 and 23 classes for a while now.
As far as money goes and deep pockets, that gap has closed big time. The latest most valuable teams has A&M and Texas tied. Again, A&M has done some fantastic things with their marketing and brand as well as built their program in the right way. We are starting to see some benefits of that. A&M tore down the whole system with Jimbo and started building things up completely differently.

If I'm a stud HS player, I'd want to be in CS, Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Waco, Oxford, State College, Fayetteville, Ames, etc. - all college towns where everything revolves around the university. Everyone recognizes you at the bar, club, grocery store, walking down the street, etc. You are IT in the college towns. You're not competing for attention with other entertainment outlets, pro sports, or celebrities. You're not the big fish in the small pond; you're the only fish.
Austin is highly overrated in this regard.

I agree that a&m has made some strides in the last ten years with facilities and their bank account. However, that hasn't transferred to success on the field. Until a&m starts winning consistently and at least winning the SEC west, no one will take them seriously. Admittedly, a&m being in the SEC has helped them in recruiting. Now with Texas being in the SEC, that's going to shift a whole lot of that attention to the Longhorns.

No longer can aggy make fun of Texas and the Big 12, a conference that a&m was two games above .500 in BTW. Things are going to get interesting now. Texas won't be down for long. If you think otherwise, you're kidding yourself. Texas joining the SEC is something that a&m didn't want or need from their perspective. They just lost their hard sell to recruits that they are the only team in Texas that plays in the SEC.
