Texas Recruiting

Ok, so more of an Overshown type, which makes it highly unlikely Jaylen Moody’s decision had anything to do with this. Moody would’ve been looking at the Brockermeyer side.
Not in terms of position, but in terms of numbers Texas has available to take for this class could of been a factor.

I think they have 4 spots left. One we think is going to Campbell. That takes it down to 3. They are probably holding a spot for Mathis. Which takes it down to two. They almost couldn’t take Moody if they think they have a shot with Perkins

Perkins to me REALLY wanted to be at LSU before he committed to A&M. He was at A&M a lot hanging out, but his family ties to LSU were something that always made me nervous and unsettled. It seemed like he gave them every opportunity to win him over. Maybe that is feeling more like home now. This guy really feels like a Zack Evans type of player to me in his recruitment. He came off a visit to Florida and decommits, but then he has an LSU visit for this weekend. In this new game of money Harold will go to the highest bidder. He is a great athlete and will probably be a stud wherever he goes. I know A&M won't back off, but who knows where he ends up.

I thought I had heard it was $40 mil a team. That is a huge difference.
That may be the penalty amount. Keep in mind whatever media money OU and UT get from SEC would have to go to the Big 12 until GoR ends.

Perkins was never that interested in A&M. His family got money whipped for his commitment.

Dude, you have not been following this for the past 3 years. Perkins has been to more A&M events for the past 3 years than probably any other recruit they had. He has family in Louisiana and LSU has been the other favorite. Florida probably just offered something really big and now it is LSU's turn to counter. You obviously don't follow this too closely. He has been very interested in A&M. He is constantly hanging with other A&M committs.

None of the money Texas gets from the SEC will go to the big 12. ESPN will have to settle up with Texas on the Longhorn network… that money will likely be used to pay whatever buyout Texas has.

If Texas goes to the SEC before the GoR ends they will be sending the SEC media money to the Big12.

The SEC won't take us until we get that sorted out. If we leave without some deal the big 12 would retain our media rights. Fox sports has exclusive media rights to at least 40 games a season. They could take all OU and Texas Home games. That wouldn't fly with ESPN and CBS

Anyone else hearing that Perkins decommitted from a$m? I'm hearing some news that the Texas staff has made some progress........all word on the street from my people down there.
If anyone has real info please spill!!!
He's deciding between LSU and Florida. UT and Aggy are still being considered but both are long shots according the trusted insiders on Reddit and Twitter.

Also, Josh Moore has decommtted from Tech and going to SMU.

UT commit Ethan Burke was awarded a 4th star after his performance at recent camps. Some scouts view him as a potential sleeper to keep an eye on.

CBS isn’t in the new SEC tv deal so at the end of the day it’s going to be up to ESPN. If Texas decides they want to go early here is how this will go down.

there is about 9 years/130 million left on the ESPN/LHN contract. Texas isn’t just going to give up that money they’ll have to be a settlement. Whatever settlement is reached some of that money will go to the big 12 to buy to get out of the rights deal. With the condition that they drop all litigation as it pertains to ESPN

Bowlsby and the big 12 will take the offer because at the end of the day suing the broadcast company you are going to be trying to get more money out of isn’t very smart. ESPN will make sure the big 12 gets 9 AM kicks on ESPN 5 if they aren’t careful.

bottom line if Texas isn’t in the SEC to start 2023 season it’s because they don’t want to be. Not because they can’t be.

CBS will still have the SEC rights in ‘23. 2024 is the first realistic year ESPN would money whip the situation.

Also, the GoR contract spells out terms to leave with just two years left. https://static.big12sports.com/custompages/pdfs/handbook/bylaws.pdf

Under what standing do you think the Big 12 would sue ESPN? The Big12 GoR contract is with UT and OU not ESPN. The schools are who the conference would sue.

BU, at the time the no. 1 team in the country in BBall, played a ranked Tech team. On ESPN+. 9:00 am. kickoffs would be better treatment than we are currently getting from ESPN.

Yep. Texas and Iowa state were on ESPN+. The 2nd matchup is on LHN. It’s almost like suing and trashing your TV partner isn’t a good idea

Well the big 12 sent cease and desist letter to ESPN accusing them of meddling in the situation and said they would take legal action, so yeah I have to assume they are serious about it. Now do I think they’d actually do it? No because there is no upside which is why I’ll continue to say if Texas wants out a deal will be reached.
Yes the grant of rights deal is between UT and the big 12, but the LHN deal is between UT and ESPN. There is around 130 million to settle up on that deal. Whatever buyout deal UT and ESPN reach a portion of that money could and would be used to buy out the big 12 under the scenario I laid out. So ESPN wouldn’t be giving money to the big 12 it would be money owed to Texas that Texas is directing go to the big 12. So again if Texas isn’t in the SEC after next season it will be because they don’t want to be.

There was a time a couple years ago that CBS was trying to get ESPN to take over the rights early. That could always be revisited as well

Not recruiting or even Texas related (sorry MM) but my goodness the Sooner fan base is absolutely the crazy ex in this relationship with Riley. They are seriously butt hurt...like need to see a specialist butt hurt.
They know in their heart that Venables probably won’t be able to match what Riley did. Doesn’t mean Venables will be bad. He could be good and not come close to what Riley has done, and every sooner fan knows it even if they don’t want to say it

So then why did he decommit lol?

I'm sorry. I just see it...every stinking day on my twitter feed. They need medicinal assistance. I mean really.

Venables has done a very good job in recruiting and OU fans are excited. Not wanting to bring down MM"s wrath but you guys claiming "every sooner fan knows" Venables won't be as good as Riley is like chanting "Texas is back" every summer. Maybe Horns will be this year. But I doubt it.

The only people I’ve ever heard say “Texas is back” are Sam Ellenger, Joe Testitore, and other teams fan bases wanting to troll Texas. No Texas fan has ever said that.

Fong predicts Campbell to Texas.

DEVON CAMPBELL, ARLINGTON (TEXAS) BOWIE, OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

Top247 Rank: No. 21

The Skinny: Texas is the prediction for Campbell who also includes Oklahoma as a finalist. Campbell did not take any visits in January or host any in-home visits. The Sooners did what they could to stay involved in the end but the buzz has been around Texas for much of the process. Steve Sarkisian and his staff are putting the finishing touches on what is America’s best offensive line class win 2022. The announcement will come on National Signing Day.

Brini commits to Arkansas. He loved UT but wanted to stay in the SEC.
Wait until NIL and transfer portal get some parameters. Teams like Arkansas and Aggie fan are getting a false sense of worth and prestige due to NIL. They literally believe kids just decided to start coming to their schools because Of the cultures being created.

To me it’s going to be a comparison between Lebby and Riley. I have no doubt Venables will be as good if not better HC than Riley. Will he have as many Heisman winners? Probably not but Venables isnT coaching and developing offenses either. Riley did a lot of boneheaded crap as HC but was a good OC. I will say right now that I believe OU, even under a total rebuild in 2022 will have a statistically better offense that we did in 2021 under Riley. If that’s the case, that’ll be a heck of an accomplishment considering all of the turnover we’ve had.

I’m just curious. What gives you so much confidence in Venables, considering there are plenty of examples of great DCs not cutting it as head coaches? I mean, just look at ours alone. Chizik, Muschamp, _iaz. Lol, ok even I couldn’t keep a straight face on that last one.

To me it's really more about the Coordinator's they bring in. That's who the players are following now more than ever imo. Lebby's offense is pretty dang productive and has been more productive than Riley's the last couple years with considerably less talent to work with. In just 2 months we've brought in 3 pretty coveted qb's. I think OU will be fine.

Because it worked out with Bob Stoops and Venables learned from Dabo. Obviously Venables will win the next 10 Big 12 championships

No, but I think he has made some pretty solid hires and so far the recruiting is agreeing with that.

Fwiw I think Texas is positioned to have a good year. Like they say, it’s a game of inches and imo Texas and OU’s record’s could have been much different last year if a few plays were made or not made. OU damn near lost 4 additional games last year that we somehow Eeked out with a timely interception or the other team had a bad snap on the go ahead fg try etc. Texas led in most of their loses so it’s not like y’all got blown out. I think Texas does well with more consistent QB play in the 2nd half of games.
