247 had a quick update on QB Arch Manning and the visit atmosphere for recruits.
They've had multiple sources tell them that things have gone from cautious optimism to a louder confidence that Texas can eventually close the deal with Manning.
Recruits have reached out to them to talk about all of the buzz this weekend and what they think Manning will do, including one prospect asking when Manning was going to make it official so he could commit too.

IT wrote this morning the numbers game for this class is a delicate thing right now as there won't be enough spots for everyone who wants in currently.
Things get even tighter if you factor in a Manning commitment.

Attrition really isn’t the issue. The issue is you can only bring in a certain number of “new” players. That’s incoming freshman and transfer portal guys combined. Texas is on that number as we speak. Now your talking about delaying enrollments and some shady stuff.

I’m not sure about that. I think it has to do with the total roster count, in this case, 85. I’m not an expert though on NCAA rules.

Current NCAA rules allow programs to sign up to 25 players in a new football signing class — termed “initial counters” — which includes high school players and transfers. Each FBS program also has a maximum of 85 total scholarship players. This means a coach could lose players to graduation and the transfer portal and then sign 25 initial counters but still be below the 85-scholarship player maximum

This waiver will allow those programs to replace up to seven departing transfers above the 25-player limit. Schools will only be allowed to replace players who enter the portal after either the end of the institution’s fall term or Dec. 15, 2021, whichever is earlier, a source told The Athletic. They signed 28 recruits

they’ve got 5 transfers so far. That’s not counting Mathis. That’s 33 new players. Either they found a loophole in the rule or something has to give somewhere
