Texas Recruiting

Ochaun Mathis doesn’t choose until 3 today. I don’t know if he has speed, but we are dire need of some bigger DL guys with speed.

Trending Nebraska. Apparently they gathered a $600,000 NIL deal for him.

I think we dodged a bullet with him. The way he dramatized his transfer. Just seemed a little over blown for a 3 star player with 14 sacks in 3 years lol.
Yeah it’s definitely not the end of the world. I thought we needed him in the worst way, but that may not be true.

When you think about it, we weren’t gonna be great this year anyway. This year is about development, and Mathis could’ve hindered some guys developing for the future, when he wouldn’t be here anyway.

So it’s a blow for this year, but a positive for next year, and beyond.

So when is the last time we had anyone with 14 sacks in 3 years?
Not long ago. Joseph Ossai was close with 12 in 3 years. Ossai was better than Mathis though. He’s a good player but I don’t think it’s the end all that he chose elsewhere.

Looks like the young guys are going to have to play this season. Sorrell, Finkley, and Tapp are all going to see snaps this year is my guess.

It would’ve been dumb to pay Maths $500k for just one season. Not wise use of NIL funds for sure.

Crystal balls coming in for 4* WR Jaden Greathouse from Westlake to Notre Dame.
Another local in your backyard could be getting away, aka Garret Wilson.

We are loaded at receiver. I am disgusted by the lack of edge and LB's coming in through the portal. They are setting PK up to be the fall guy.

PK always did more with less at Washington. He was known for taking 2 and 3 star guys and turning them into high draft picks at Washington. Danny Shelton and Vita Vea were 3 star guys that he turned into first round picks. He has the track record. I hate to say it but he has more to work with here than he ever did at Washington.

Let's hope that this season is a drastic improvement. PK did not impress anyone in his first year here.

That was one of the poorest coaching jobs that I think I have ever witnessed. It seemed like they just flat out quit after that Oklahoma game. Let's hope that Sark weeded out all the bad seeds that didn't want to be here and this year we start to see a shift in culture.

It's hard for me to believe that PK just became a bad coach over night. Especially when I have seen him do more with less. Maybe having an experienced guy like GP around helps in a big way. If we can just field an average defense this year we should win 8 game or so because the offense is going to put up points.

Our lack of LBs and pass rushers leads me to believe it's going to be another long season defensively.

PK had plenty of talent at UW. DL, LB and safeties (e.g., Budda Baker) were loaded while he was there.
I followed his defenses when I was on the left/west coast and they played tough and mean. He always had a number of Poly DL like Utah does and those guys are mean. Maybe they were his team enforcers? I don’t know but I was as unimpressed by PK’s first year as everyone else - maybe more so as I had followed his UW defenses.

I liked the PK hire, but I am of the opinion that I no longer care what he did at UW. Situations vary and effectiveness at one place doesn’t necessarily mean it will work at another. I believe last year was coaching, not players. As of last season, I am not in favor of keeping PK. I hope I have to eat crow over this post.

Last year was a mix of coaching and players. When your best LB was Brokermeyer you're in for a long season. Our secondary was a mess as well. Schooler was one of the worst safeties in the history of Texas football. D'shawn Jamison is a great return man but should not be starting at corner this year. PK could have done a better job though.

I hated how on 3rd and short our corners were playing 10-12 yards deep and playing a bail technique.

I believe that with the players we had, it should have been an average or slightly below average defense. If you can’t even field a slightly below average with those players, then there are problems. Those players were lost

Anyway, what is done is done. Going forward, I have accepted the mulligan for PK and as of now, I will be positive the rest of the year. Let’s see what our boys can do.
Hook’em

Whoa even worse than GD Dylan Haynes? Schooler is going to the Patriots....

Word is that it was scumbag USC (Riley):

Sources: An anxious week in the transfer portal saw the Texas Longhorns fend off a high-priced suitor for superstar WR Xavier Worthy.

Schooler going to the Patriots undrafted means nothing. The Browns just signed Marcus Santos-Silva. He’s a 6’7 PF from Tech’s basketball team and has never played a down of football lol.
