Texas Recruiting

hope epps and mitchell and keontay and any of em all find bliss and happiness. really do. but they're gone. wouldn't say dead to me, but outta sight outta mind
there is a strong connection between TX and SC. That's 3 guys in the last 6 months. Also 2 former coaches that are at SC. And with that they're starting to recruit hard in TX. Oh and they got 2 guys from TT on their staff.

Is Helton hanging on for dear life? Is this his last season to produce? What is the scoop out there? He was 5-1 last year, but I didn't really see any quality wins within that limited schedule.

He got a Covid pass last year. While there’s a perception that he’s been hanging on by a thread, my understanding is that the new admin (both the AD and Pres are relatively new) is fine with him and they’re not going to make a change for the sake of making a change like USC did with the AD (Haden and Swann).
Neither the AD nor the Pres have a prior connection to USC, which is a new dynamic because USC is typically fairly incestuous in its hiring. Both have their hands full with the SJWs and other political issues. Helton’s contract runs through 2023 with a hefty buyout so my guess is he’s there through the end of the contract.
It’s the alumni - not BMDs - that are clamoring for a change. They abhor Helton’s middling results. They would need to pony up.

Helton and SC are similar to TX and Herman last year. He's got the talent but not a good staff. That TT guy who's his oc is the worst possible coach for the talent they have. And then there's the scandal which has the full attention of the prez that right now they're not prioritizing athletics right now. Which is understandable given the magnitude of the scandal. USC spent a lot of money renovating the coliseum so yeah this is Helton's make or break season.

And one more thing from IT that they placed at the bottom of their Friday article...

They now have QB Quinn Ewers of Southlake Carroll as better than a coin-flip (60%) to re-commit to Texas, despite some others out there saying there's nothing to see.

Man, I have mixed feelings about this. Kinda don't like revisiting with ex's that dumped us for the current popular dudes.

Agree. Once BF #1 has been dumped, it’s much easier to dump BF #2. In this case, at the first sign of competition, adversity, and seeing QB2 or QB3 next to his name on the depth chart, will it be easier for him to dump us again and enter the portal?

i have zero problem with it. ewers' assessment of herman and his (in)ability to handle a difficult situation is what made him look elsewhere. perhaps his coming back has to do with his perception of how sark is handling things since the change.

Exactly. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

Perhaps, but it could also turn out to be a live grenade in our qb room.

maybe. or perriloux trying to be cute could lead to a nothing college carrer for him, and a guy with his name on the stadium wall that otherwise wouldn't have gotten a chance, for us. just let it play out. but if ewers is elway-like? i can put up with some wishy-washyness considering the s-show herman had going on.

Any news on Palaolaylay Tatagomamaguta? Is he a done deal? This guy is an absolute stud. Easily the best of the bunch if he’s healthy, maybe even if he’s only 60%. He’s that good.

And yes, ima butcher his name for years, so I might as well start it off right.

Palaei Gaoteote, #1 inside LB in the 2018 class, is a stud. Played at USC as a freshmen. He’s a tough Poly dude. I haven’t seen confirmation yet but color me impressed. Our DC always had tough Polys at UW.

Now a report that Jaden Blue had a blowup with coaches and will not play his senior year.....IT says back off him and move on....

I saw this. Ridiculous. I hate seeing trends like this starting. I absolutely cannot stand when college players opt out "quit" on their team. It is nothing but pure selfishness.

opting out of college is one thing....opting out of your senior year in high school is quite another. Supposedly a blowup with the coaching staff was the catylist. Somewhere is a big,big problem

Normally I’d say f*ck him, let’s move on, but I have to agree with ElDiablo. I don’t blame him for decommitting from Herman.

Besides, perception is everything, and getting the top QB back can only help the perception of Texas recruiting.
I want the guy....and **** OSU...whiney bastards....let em freeze in the dark as they used to say...I dont care if he comes here and we kick his ass out first day of training. If it pisses off OSU it is good with me...

Man, I don’t know sh*t about how football recruiting is going this year. Don’t really care to read the thread either.

Could someone kindly rate from F to A+ what the quality level of our class is likely to be, according to people in the know? Any position groups that seem particularly promising or problematic?

So 5* RB Rueben Owens decommits after Tuscaloosa visit. Reckon he's bama bound or can he be pulled back in?

I guess it is a minor concern in the grand scheme of things since Bijon will be the man for the next two years, but it would be nice to strengthen the bench.
