Texas vs branch school thread

I loved the way our defense adjusted for 2nd half play and how our offense thumped UTEP. I finally got LHN (this morning), and I watched Charlie Strong's press conference. It sounds like he was involved in some of the defensive planning (playing more down linemen and less nickel defense to generate a better pass rush).

I feel like this year is going to be good. Next year? Look out. I feel like Strong needs one more year of devlopement and recruiting to bring Texas back to the elite level.

ESPN has to be drooling over the playoff possiblities the next few years. The blue bloods appear to be back

Agree 100%

I still think we will drop one or two games we should win simply because our young guys are reading their own press clippings and taking opponents too lightly.

Looking at the landscape of college football the Pac 12 is in deep trouble.

The Big 12 has Texas back as an elite team.

SEC has Bama

ACC has Clemson and FSU

B1G has Ohio State and maybe Michigan.

Pac has really no one. It seems like it's been waiting for either USC or UCLA to take over that conference but both are falling on their faces. Oregon was good for a while but seems to have fallen back. Stanford is good but they will never be a blueblood simply because of their education requirements.

Honestly, Texas is in perfect position as long as they don't lose more than one game a year they should make the playoffs regularly and that will lead to better success on the recruiting trail which will lead to better play and hopefully championships.

I also think Strong needs to hope he can keep Gilbert next year to. Don't want to have to change OCs again. He's gonna be a candidate for some head jobs you'd think.

Meh--- small schools. But we gave him a sheet ton of money so......

Learn under Strong for a couple of years and take Texas to the playoffs then the quality of schools that come calling goes up.

Make no mistake we are only renting Gilbert for about the next 3 to 5 years. however, Texas could keep him a bit longer if they give him about 2 to 3 million a year. Then you have a situation where you have priced him out of market for most all of the non-P5 schools and a good portion of the non-elite schools.

Eventually he is going to get a head job, but for now he is our OC

Yeah. Although most coordinators at big time programs are future HCs. If they aren't they'll probably be fired pretty quick.

I think the better solution is blackmail. Doubt he has any major indiscretions to hide, so we'll need to fabricate some and secure a few false witnesses.

Hey, it's for the greater good.

9 Next week is Fe-Cal, and I think we will be super ready to lay down an total ass-kicking and then we have a bye week before we start conference play. The only thing I think we need to really work on is stop fouling especially doing something really stupid like taking a bow after good play. We have 3 weeks and two games to fix that.

I thought that was one of the most ridiculous personal fouls I've seen called. There is nothing malicious about a bow (like a throat slash for ex.). It was not performed towards an opponent. It was short, not drawn out. I didn't really understand why it was called.

Any action a player makes that is about "himself" is a penalty in today's college football. I don't think a bow is that bad either but by rule it is a penalty.

Sure, but there's plenty of actions that draw attention to a player but don't get called. Heard was dancing after his TD, players salute or do hand signals all the time. I don't fault the kid for having that penalty called on him, I think the ref was just a bit too trigger happy.

Somebody got that meme of that marine at Ole miss going bonkers when our running back scored a TD and saluted him in the end zone? That marine went off!
