DeShaun Elliot is one of the three finalists, the other two finalists are from Iowa and Bama (big surprise there). 6 pics two of them for td's, a bunch of passes broken up, and third on the team on tackles. What else does he have to do? He can become the third Longhorn to win the Thorpe award the other two being Aaron Ross and Michael Huff.

He has brought back the tradition of great safeties at the.University of Texas.

Don't be surprised if Fitzpatrick gets the nod...SEC...SEC...SEC (Although Elliot's season certainly equals Fitzpatrick's, but Bama in playing for the championship and the Longhorns aren't).

Fitzpatrick is a freaking beast. Can play CB, either safety, or nickle. He will be a very high draft pick. I bet he goes in the top 5 in the draft. He will win the Thorpe and should. If you have watched Alabama play more than a couple games and know anything about football, you'd agree.

DeShaun is very good, but Minkah is on a different level. Minkah is the best none QB in this year's draft to me. I prefer him over the RB from ped state. There is a DE from NCST that is supposedly really elite, but I haven't seen him enough to have a real opinion. NFL loves pass rushers.

Fitzpatrick will probably win but I'm partial to Texas players. And there's no denying that Deshaun has brought back the tradition of great safeties at Texas.

Elliot was great this year, but this won't exactly be a snub when Fitzpatrick wins it.

Yeah, Bama punter probably gets it as well.

Punter to me seems like an award that can be completely statistical based. I guess there could be some element of high pressure punts but really their ability is independent of the competition. It's not more difficult to punt for 50 yards in the SEC vs CUSA.

Actually punters on crappy teams should have a statistical advantage. They pretty much get to kick it as far as they can most every time. Whereas, a punter on a good team is often trying to pin down the opponent inside the 20.

Pins inside the 20 vs touchbacks are tracked statistics. Now there is some subjective logic as 1 may have more pins inside the 10 vs another with a better average, and you have to weigh which is better. I was just mainly speaking to the point the competition doesn't it more difficult to do their jobs. That's why the NFL is littered with punters/kickers from no name schools.

Punters on bad teams or in lower tier conferences don't just try to boot it as far as they can 100% of the time. That's a ridiculous argument. As a retort, I would argue that punters on good teams don't have any pressure to pin it inside the 10 because their team is good and can overcome the field position.

Pretty much all the time does not equal 100% of the time.

You are correct in general. I was just trying to say that the punter with the best average is not necessarily the best. But if you figure out a way to include hang time, directional kicking, inside 20 or 10, etc.. Then I'd agree. I think it would still be subjective, as some homer would be tracking the data for the punters. Especially at small schools.

Not sure why I am arguing, I don't really disagree or even care.

Texas has the best punter the NFL will have seen in ages!

I think we are on the same page. I didn't mean you should only take the highest average and give him the reward to him. I just meant that you don't have to discount or place premium on their stats based on their team like you do other positions. You can judge them on their numbers alone. There is no reason to know who they've played or who they play for.
