He basically read right off the cue card.

He did NOT want to give that speech.

Look, I get it---- you've had season after season of failure and NOW you ain't playing and the Cowboys are killing it. Makes you look bad especially since it's a rookie doing your job.

Be a team player. Smile. Be cordial. Your career is over dude. One hard hit and you're back at Memorial Hermann getting your shoulder sliced for the eleventy millionth time.

You do know there is folks out there thinks he is the best QB on the Cowboys roster. you are going to hurt their feelings lol

Don't really understand the purpose of the speech, but it happened and he was respectful. He certainly didn't say anything that made me think ill of him.

I'm not even a cowboy fan but I think it's time for Romo to retire. That dude will not be able to walk later in life with that back as it is. Cowboys look legit so far with two rookies.

I threw up in my mouth.

I caught the speak about half way through and legitimately thought he was hanging up the helmet...the way he was speaking and body language told me that he knows he is done.

He needs to retire and get himself a Taco Wagon, after that FG during that playoff game yrs ago, I stopped watching the cowboys

I think Tony showed a lot of class in what he said in the press conference. Based on how Dak has performed, the Cowboys have no choice but to stay with him and it is his team now. I think Tony will be playing elsewhere next year. Perhaps for the Jets or Bears.

Did you see the entire speech MM? Like, watched it?

His facial expressions were that of the dude that just found out his high school sweetheart was banging the QB from the rival team. Totally dejected. Non verbal lips pursed together... poking of tongue into lower lip and cheek area.... eyes down.... monotone voice...

He's not supposed to be happy. Being a team player has nothing to do with being happy your career is over.

Any competitive guy would be down about losing their starting job. What is so wrong about his actions?

That's how he looked when he flubed up that FG when they was in the playoffs long ago, The problem with Tony is he could never finish, but he was good for beer sales

He will be missed down here in South Texas, all the Romo jerseys and gold chains at HEB in the express line buying beer before the game, Jerry musta made a fortune off of them

A lot of yards and a lot of TDs from Romo but only 2 career playoff wins. Good fantasy player though and entertaining as hell.

Not pointing out that being upset over not starting was a bad thing...... BUT..... I always saw him as a team player and I guess (call me crazy) I'd have liked to see him get up there and speak from his heart.
Ex:

"Ya, it sucks losing your job due to injury but, I'm happy as hell that we've got the best record in the league and (smile) whatever I've got to do to win a superbowl, even if I'm on the sidelines, is worth it to me 100%."

I don't get why so many people hate on the guy. When he's on, he's a top 10 QB in the NFL, and has put up some incredible numbers. Sure, Cowboys fans would have liked to have seen him at the helm of more playoff victories, but it's not like he lost every game by himself singlehandedly. He's thrown some crucial interceptions, yes, but he's also one of the most successful 4th quarter QB's of all time, and if I'm not mistaken, has the most come from behind wins in NFL history. Romo is a great guy. Never in trouble, always gracious, classy, a team player and well liked by his teammates. No one saw it coming in what Dak could do, and it is time to pass the torch. Hopefully Dak can help lead the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl.

I've got zero problem with Romo. I think most that do, see him as a regular season super hero and a post season goat. Fair or unfair----

I believe it was important to do the speech. There is a lot of noise on the radio talk shows, game announcers and you name it that keeps the battle alive and can make it a very negative distraction to the team. I am sure the hope is that it will quell any escalation of controversy that has a potential to infiltrate the team.

Romo was sincere, nothing wrong with that. Some of you haters are negative about everything that I read on here. When you accomplish something in your life maybe you'll be asked to speak in front of a group of interested soles.

I thought he seemed sincere. Sad for him that he never got to win the big game but his time is over and this is Dak and Zeke's time. I'm sure if Dak was to lose back to back games old jerry will have his say in Tony seeing some playing time.

Won't even take the time to drop this in the food processor. Tony had a good run.

Love Romo. But it's time to move on. He'll either fade into the backup role or we'll trade him tot he Browns, Bears, Cardinals, Jets, or Broncos for a couple first rounders! Both are good options, personally I'd like to trade him for some young talent in the years to come to build around our rookie core of Zeke and Dak.

He's got a $20 million cap price tag hung around his neck. Going to be tough to do.

True, all depending on structure or re-structuring. My bet is he wants to ride off into the sunset somewhere that he can compete and end his career on a high note. I could see the Bronco's being a player here kind of like with Manning. Maybe a team like Arizona or the Texans being interested too.

Romo is a poor man's Danny White career wise. White was better. Not hating on the guy but his lack of playoff success is what it is.

Actually I am going to hate on the guy a little bit. Why have a sob story, me-me-me press conference while his team is winning? I mean the guy is one play away from QBing the team with the best record in the NFL. How about saying you're there for the team and will do whatever you can to help and Prescott is playing great and leave it at that? Maybe leave your selfish interests to the off-season.

Scholz, as a lifelong Cowboys fan, I think a lot of Danny White, but there is no comparison whatsoever between him an Romo. Romo is head and shoulders the better QB. It's not even close.

Agree to disagree. I said "career wise". White was in the NFC title game more than once. Romo hasn't performed in the playoffs. And no, it's not all on him but he's been the leader of the team for a decade. He has to own that. He simply hasn't gotten it done.

Not a Cowboy fan but not a hater either. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting posts by both @Scholz and @LonghornMM ....

Scholz does have a point MM. Danny white did have Tony Dorsett in his backfield, and did take the Cowboys to NFC championship games.... Romo has yet to do that. Romo does have cowboy passing records, but not Aikman like completion numbers. Interesting breakdown....

I agree, clob. Danny White almost led a comeback after the famed "catch" that people forget about. Almost made a superbowl appearance. White has a better win% but, Romo has started for many more games. I agree with MM, though on why Romo is disliked by many. The guy is a class act.
