Urban Meyer said no thanks?

Saw this....been saying it for years.

"At the elite programs, and there are a handful of them out there, the fanbases are completely out of their minds," Meyer said. "They've lost all sense of reality. I say that with great respect because I always told our players that they did not have to come to Ohio State or Florida. You chose to come here, so don't be surprised if you struggle or get hammered a little bit. I said the same thing to our coaching staff.

Now it wears on you a little bit. You go 13-1, then people go, what happened? So here's the job description: Win every game you play. Never lose to your rival. Get every top recruit. No off-field issues. Graduate every player. All players drafted in first, second, or this round."

Are we underperforming? I’m not sure. I would like to see the number of recruits that are upper classmen, that we have retained (have not transferred), & that are making meaningful contributions on the field. Also, I would like to see if we are filling our positions of need each year versus going after 4 star “athletes” that don’t really have a football position.
Texas is under performing.. Everyone knows it and beating a really really bad KState team means very little and still we gave up over 400+ yds of offense to them and over 30 points.. Let KState play Clemson, Alabama or Ohio State and see how that goes for them and what end game totals are in all areas..

Yes, we are. We have insane depth at DL and DB. We have loads of skill weapons and a 4th year starter QB. We played 2 games in a row and scored a total of 37 points.

Apathy level consistently rises with each passing day of this debacle. I get going all in on UM, woulda been a game changer for our program. (Pun intended) However, the ramifications are going to be very difficult to overcome now that it appears he isn’t coming. Recruiting is $h!t already and now we have a lame duck Coach if we retain him. Sure, we’ll save money but at what cost? (Yes, another lame attempt at a pun) If we truly believe our performance won’t achieve to the level of talent we have based on the recruits he’s garnered thus far, what is making him a lame duck gonna do? Am I way off base here?

No. There was no rush to try and see if Urban was interested. Now it looks like a shit show because of the way it was handled. Assbackward. And now we have egg on our face.

Freaking idiotic.

I’m not saying it is or is not true. I’m asking for data points on the items in my my post. I can’t make an informed decision before then.

What data points are you looking for specifically? The position groups I mentioned are loaded with players that had offers from schools that continually put players in the NFL.

We can't keep saying it is the players. We've said that for a decade now. These are talented kids that aren't being coached well. And haven't been coached well in a decade.

Even the most talented still needs development, and that isn't happening.

This was supposed to be the year that we contended based on returning players as you point out. Do AL, OH State, and Clemson tell themselves "this is our year?"
No . . . their mentality and culture is such that every year is their year.
That's partly why we're underperforming . . . mentality.

Then you have herbstret saying on game day "they are not what you think they are as far as history" that we have had some good years, but when was the last time we were competing for something besides the mack brown era.

Clob, correct me if I'm wrong........

I'm not giving up on a coaching change until I see CDC say he supports TH and he is the man moving forward. I think the fact CDC continues to not tweet about TH shows he is fully dedicated to making a change. It's just getting the buyout money if it isn't UM. So now they see who they can get if it's not UM and see if they have the money to move forward.
Can you imagine dealing with TH if he does come back? You think he's cocky now...............that is why I think CDC and president pull the trigger on a change if they get anyone on the short list after UM to commit.

We're a baseball school...and even that has gone to shit

With that said, Texas was relevant in the 60s/70s/80s/00s

Even in the 90s, Texas won Conference Championships. 2010-2020 has been abysmal and makes everyone think this is how it has always been.

Mack was fired for going 30-21 (or something like that) in a four year stretch. Tom is 31-18 with 2 games left this year. Time to move on. This wait and see stuff is ridiculous

I agree with baseball we have a deep rich history there. Cause they can sure remember 2009 the last time we played for anything.

I believe CDC has buy-out money in hand. I don't hear of any support for TH at this point. I would guess that CDC wants to avoid another bad hire, and will only cut TH when he is certain he can get the right person in.

I woul like to remind Herbstreit that tOSU went 34 years without winning a nc. Their beloved Woody Hayes teams constantly folded when they were ranked #1 late in the season. Same thing for Earl Bruce and John Cooper. They broke through under Jim Tressell and Urban has created a monster

I wish I could tell Herbstreit that Darrell Royal was a better coach than Woody Hayes without being nowhere near the a****** that WH was.

In other words anyone can grade on the curve.

A 17 year old recruit (junior in high school) was 2 years old at the time of the 2005 national championship. That same 17 year old recruit was 6 years old during the 2009 conference championship season. It is hard to make the argument that we're a football school to the current crop of recruits based on their life experience.

I disagree. What this tells me is that today's young people have no respect for history or tradition. And I'm not just talking about athletes on scholarships I'm taking about young people as a whole about almost everything.

Oh there's definitely no shortage of piggies on my place, unfortunately. I got tired of messing with them.
I caught 8 of them about a year ago, All were right around 50lbs or less. I called one of those assholes advertising about buying live wild hogs and they never called me back. I tried to give them away to anyone I could think of.

This is what happens when you pussyfoot around and do things ass backward.
Has anyone considered that UM doesn't care for the attitude, smugness, we should never have not been great mentality from Austin? Maybe the BMD aren't his kind of people. Perhaps a Regent came across badly. Who knows other than UM and wife? Perhaps he is worried that another pressure cooker job will see the return of his health issues. His wife is a nurse and has insight.

I think it’s simpler than that. Has anyone considered that it had very little to do with Texas and that Urban at least in this moment is serious about not coaching anymore?

Holy crap dude. Ive driven through Corona before. There's literally nothing there. When I was in HS we did the Billy the kid tour there in Lincoln County. He allegedly made a stop near corona to hold up for the night. I also learned that the cop that found the "UFO" crash in Roswell first stopped at Corona to call it in.

On a different note-- at some point you probably had a few PRC-117 conversations with some of the boys out of Hollomon. I have a buddy staying at a TDY crash pad there that said they are running a special on KC steaks at the BX right now. You should run by and grab some beef.
Nothing is an overstatement. The same people own & operate the honeymoon themed hotel, gas station, and "grocery" which all closes at 5pm. If the gas station is closed, just ask the hotel attendant to open it up for ya.

I didn't 20 out or med retire so I can't shop the commissary. However, i can buy from the bx but online only. 10yrs gets you jack but luckily my issues are combat related so healthcare is just a "free" motrin away. Rules are rules.

yeah bell, it changes daily. Price fluctuates and sometimes they wont even take them at all. Apparently they export wild hog to europe where it is a delicacy......suckers.

This post right here nailed it. We, as a demanding fan base, are too much to handle for most people. Well, then there's all those asshats with money trying to compare hotdogs running around.....

Maybe. And quite likely. Guess we'll read it in the memoirs in about 20 years.

I can also tell you that you don't go shopping around a job that isn't open yet. That is bush league.

A few years ago while deer hunting we caught a large sounder (maybe 30) in a trap. We conducted ballistics tests with various handguns. Man those pigs got pissed.

Fresh, I'm going to be in NB the weekend of 1/15. Would love for you to join clob and I for a beer at the local watering hole.

I did the same, I had just bought a new Walther PPQ and I had some home defense rounds that I was just curious what kind of devastation they'd leave in their wake at close range. I almost felt bad but those damn pigs are so destructive, they were starting to come up in my yard messing things up
