UT QB room

Shane Buechelle is a great kid.....but to compare him to Murray or even Manziel is beyond idiotic. Sometimes i worry about you Flourbluff.....one day you seem logical the next......not so.

I am talking about the way they all sat on bench and come out better with another team, not comparing talent, All I was saying was he might go somewhere else and show us up in his playing, and hear that shit "Texas was stupid for letting him get away", makes us look like idiots, thats all...F all ya'll for jumping on me!

How is Thompson compared to his older brother? The older one was just not a very good passer

No idea, but Texas recruited him harder than they recruited Rising. He was the guy running the scout team last year. I'm surprised we lost Shane and Rising, I knew we would lose one but I figured the other would stay.

My feeling is that I really hope Sam doesn't get hurt because I don't think either Thompson or Johnson are ready to make a pass on the college level. We will know more about both in the spring game. I hope I'm wrong.

Thompson and Johnson are certainly capable and the added speed they would bring to the table would help them considerably. Can't wait for the Spring game. You could go back and look at last years game for tape on Thompson. He throws a really nice ball and has a cannon for an arm.

If he does I am going into the Transfer portal and get drunk...cause it will be the biggest FU decision made since MB days and that will be on Herman

I agree I don’t see how someone could say they are not ready whenever we haven’t seen them play a single snap of collegiate football. I think both guys are capable of coming in and making some plays. Sure there will be some growing pains associated with being a freshman but ultimately what I have seen out of both guys on film I think they are capable of getting the job done.

a player with "potential means you ain't done nothin' yet."

Productivity on the high school level is no indication of how they will do on the college level. I watched Roshon's highlight tape and saw a guy with horrible Mechanics who has potential but will need a lot of work. I don't remember what Thompson had but this is why I said, we will know more in the spring game.

Now if you want to see beautiful passing watch Card throw the ball, that kid has some talent.

I’m well aware of the high school game not translating to collegiate success. But you can watch a guys mechanics and usually get a pretty good idea of what he MIGHT be able to do at the next level. I never said they would for sure produce, I simply said they were CAPABLE. That simply means they have a very good chance at producing at Texas. And I’m well aware that I could very well be wrong but only time will tell.

No shit that’s exactly why I said POTENTIAL. And if you read my post I said capable which means I’m aware they haven’t done anything at Texas yet but I can see the kids being really good down the road.

Well, Genius! I was quoting DKR..., you got a Crystal Ball to see the kid being really good? Wasn't you the one that said Swoopes was a Stud?

I watched Card 2 years ago against Allen in the state championship game. He came in on the 2nd play when their starter went down with.a knee injury. He almost led them to victory but fell short losing by 1. I was really impressed with the kid. He doesn’t really blow you away with his athletic ability but can flat out throw the football. Should be a pretty good group of quarterbacks once he gets here next year. With Sam’s injury woes the last 2 years it will be nice to have some added depth at the most important job on the field.

Do you have a crystal ball seeing the kid not being good?! Didn’t think so. And I never said one good thing about Swoopes so get out of here with that BS. You got me confused with someone else. I hated Swoopes from day 1!

I've seen both Card and Johnson play. Card does throw a good ball, but he's skinny (only 170lbs.). Roschon may not have perfect mechanics, but that can be coached. RJ is by far the more impressive QB of the two. Card does have one more year of HS left to put on some more muscle and hone his game.

You can get a good look at a butcher’s ass by sticking your head up there, but wouldn’t you rather take his word for it?

You can't even remember if you took a sh*t yesterday. How the hell are you gonna pretend to remember what somebody said about Swoopes? Typical FB, spewing constant incoherent drivel without the capability of thought.

I simply don't know what you expect from Herman (or any coach for that matter) when it comes to handling QBs. You live in this fantasy world in which we can give 4 QBs playing time throughout the season, even though most games were close in the 4th quarter.

You also seem to think we can recruit stud QBs that can come in and the offense won't miss a beat, but be more than happy to sit on the bench for years unless the starter gets hurt.

FBH, look at this way. All 4 schools in the college football playoffs this past season will have QBs transferring for 2019. This is just college football now, it doesn't matter what DKR did 50 years ago.

@LilThurm

I shouldn't have to do this but I haven't made
a decision and the reports did not come from
me. I hate finding out news from twitter and
so should any coach. That's not the right way
to do things--it's unprofessional. I like to
inform and be informed myself. Deleting this
tweet.

If I'm Tom Herman or Tim Beck, I'd wonder if the comment, "I like to ... be informed myself," is a sideways way to say that he's been unhappy with how they've (not) kept him in the loop. Or it could just be a general comment. Who knows?

It’s about that POS Chip Brown breaking the news too early before he could inform the other coaches he was talking to he was returning to Texas.

I would give 2 QB's playing time, maybe have 1 in training , no more than that, and give then slots to Rb's which we really need, who ya gonna play if Ingram goes down that's got EXP? What would you know of DKR? You Snowflakes contradict everything he stood for, You don't recruit 5 QB;s and tell them at some point they are gonna play cause they wanna play now, getting them so another team won;t get them is a bad excuse, this is a Play Me or Trade Me football world now' Herman is a good coach, why ruin it with that 1 QB MB shit....and I tell we was better off then then we are now, you would not be a Texas fan if he made it a big FB name when he started, you guys missed a world that will never be seen again with ya 1 trophy, that's why we hold Herman accountable cause we pay him all that money, just because he won a Sugar bowl means little to what he can do this yr, we will revisit this topic after 5 games next yr

You better stick with the Pats and leave the Longhorns alone! Your taste in NFL teams is lacking~

The reason you recruit 5 QBs is because it is just like ever other position on the team: no matter how thorough you are in recruiting, no matter how sure you are, some of these guys are simply not going to work out at the college level. That is true of every, single team. Remember how we sat out the 2008 QB class because we already knew Garrett Gilbert was coming in? We could have landed Luck or RG3, but already had multiple QBs on campus and another on the way. Well, a couple of them transferred and Gilbert didn't work out. You are begging for disaster by never having more than 3 QBs on campus. (And it's ironic that you want 3 QBs, we now have 3 scholarship QBs, and it's somehow a screwup by Herman)

Players are leaving because Ehlinger is locked in as a starter for 2 more years. He wasn't the obvious #1 or a Heisman candidate when Rising was recruited, and wasn't on campus when Buechele got here. And what amount of playing time are you talking about? Jalen Hurts got plenty of snaps at Bama this season. He didn't stay.

It all boils down to one thing. How many back up QBs get drafted to the NFL?

How many starters get drafted? I know it's more than backups but it's still a small percentage. How many years did Kyler Murray need to get drafted in the first round? Sometimes it's better to sit and learn while getting stronger. Sitting would have benefitted SB, but instead, he got destroyed his first year.

NFL doesn’t draft you if you’re not starting. Whether it’s because you’re not good or because you haven’t played for them to see you, you aren’t getting drafted. There might be special cases, but those are exceptions. If you are a QB and you do not see yourself starting by the time your career is over then you better find a new situation before your eligibility runs out. If you want a shot at a signing bonus you better not sit and watch from the bench.

No one is ever "locked in as starter for x years."

You never know what might happen. Concussions. Other injuries. Prefers another sport. Other sudden loss of desire to play. Backup is an amazing talent that has to see the field now (like Tua). Drug convictions. Second coming of Jesus. Etc.

Wishing the best for Sam, of course, but God only knows if he's the starter for 2 more years.
