UT vs Cal thread started from my sh!tter

Haha. It's over. His seat just warmed up again. The ranking is gone (over-ranked in the first place). Army outplayed us today against UTEP. SDSU outplayed us against CAL.

ND was a fraud. We just got destroyed by a team that got beat by SDSU. We may not make another bowl game this year. Doing less with more....good going Charlie.

Game over and I'm sitting in the parking lot of In N Out thinking about the game and what I see. Here is my take on the game.
QB- Shane did well but looked a little shaken after the hit. Grade B
RB- Foreman and Warren did great. Grade A
WR- WTF Burt, 4 drops this season. Grade B
OL- Actually played pretty well from what I could see but allowed a couple of sacks. Grade B
DL- Hmmm. Grade D+/C
LB- Did ok but need some graphics control. Grade B
DB- Davis look good on one play and the next play, look bad. Boyd and Evans is lost along with the safeties. Grade F
ST- please put someone who can return a kick out there because Boyd is not the business. Grade C. It would've been worst but the punter brought it up some.
OFFENSE- 3:30 left in the game and you do not run the ball? Have 2 timeouts and UT runs the tempo offense. That's a lot of pressure to put on the freshman QB to win the game. Two 100 yard RB's and no running at the end of the game. That's really my only question with offense.
DEFENSE- I have said this before and I'm going to say this again. If you rush with only 3 down lineman, you will most likely lose. Need to have 4 down linemen period. Vance needs to be reevaluated. Going against a team like Cal should position a 4-2-5 setup. The DB's all look out of position. You can't tell me that Vance couldn't plan for the Cal 200 yard WR. Where is Holton Hill?
THE LAST PLAY- Can someone please explain to me why that wasn't a fumble. The ball was drop before he crossed the line and was picked up by DH. That's a fumble recovery and UT should've had the ball on the 20 yard line. That will need some explaining.

Bedfor will get Strong fired, and rightly so. I like Strong a lot but he's got to dump him
I agree weevil. It is one thing to have a crappy game now and then but dang 1 out of 3 games Texas defense is giving up 500 yards plus. I know today's offenses are powerful but good grief Cal had guys WIDE open all night....run fits were terrible......no discipline.

The no discipline applies to the offense as well....the flag Beck got for holding cost Texas a good first down by Swoopes inside the 15 I think then it goes for NO points after a sack.....the motion penalties made me angrier than the holding penalties though.

Well coached teams don't do the stupid things Texas players do. Look I am not one of those fans that think Texas is going to win every single game. Not realistic. I just want a well coached (staff makes MILLIONS) team playing out there. Texas should have the best HC, OC, DC and so on or at least a TOP coach at every position.

Effort was good....could have been some more excitement though. Cal looked fired up and Texas looked flat...more so on defense. But the Texas Offense left at least 21 points out there. Run works so lets pass it. I don't get it. I know I played a long time ago but you run a play till they STOP it. Well on to the next one.

It's really sad. I can watch tape and dissect plays, identify give aways (opponents alluding to the play called, direction of the play, etc). I learned this in high school and would smash plays in the back field. Many coaches are too dumb to see this. Many players are too.

Yesterday, I was at the Army vs UTEP game. Army loves to motion a RB to the wide side of the field and run the triple option that direction. It's very easy to see and stop. But, UTEP couldn't.

* I agree on Burt's drops, WTF.

* I also agree on Boyd. He is horrible at KR. Porter messed up by getting an
Unsportsmanlike penalty in the ND game, but, put him back in, please.

* I have no idea what to say about the secondary. They were lost all night. I could say that we need a more dominant DL because they couldn't consistently stuff the run and also didn't put enough pressusre on Webb (which would be true). But, that wouldn't explain how lost they looked and their gross inability to cover any receivers.

Trying to be realistic here. We are still a very young team. I said after the ND game that it wouldn't surprise me if there were no seniors in the starting lineup by the time TCU game rolls around. I mean almost everyone that matters on this team is freshman or sophomores. Now combine that with the fact that we also have what is pretty much a new coaching staff and you have a team that is understandably hitting some bumps in the road. The good side is that as bad as disappointing as it was to watch it was only seven points. We have our only off week of the season coming up and it comes at a great time. Time to regroup make adjustments were probably going to have to go with more younger guys especially on defense.

Sorry you had to see that game in person. The last play was considered a fumble. However, since there was no clear recovery it stays with the offense. Watching replay, several Cal and UT players run past the ball and then DH comes in and picks it up. Hypothetically the Cal players would have grabbed it had the refs not signaled the TD.

From what I saw of your game I thought Cal had a better offense than ND. Webb appeared to throw the ball around fairly well.

We gave the game away. Another play that turned the game around was that catch on the sideline and was not a catch he bobbled it and the refs didn't even take the time to review the catch. It would of made a difference at the end with that play. And then the goal line fumble....

Two turnovers and two missed field goals didn't help. We had opportunities to put them away. It also didn't help the mister "horns down" Hanson had the game of his life.

Actually Chad didn't match his season per game average of 14 receptions. :)
